Just a lil' note! You can print transfers in color-- I just don't have a color printer. The same "white ink" concept applies to color though! So if the color is light-- it'll contain white, which will be transparent.
You can also prepare a white surface on the mini or terrain, stick a transfer on it with at least an outline of the image and then paint the area that should be non-white. Good idea to do while working with base layers or just use the transfer as a paint guide in case it is complex :)
