Ingenious! My tap follower unscrews and I have two different ’pointers’ for different style taps. Your design is much neater! I made mine on a morse taper so it takes less height in the mill. Also fits the lathe tail stock.
Cool idea and nicely fitted. Most of the cheap import types have a lot of play in them. I have a drag engraving tool that captures the carbide engraving point with a hollow barrel magnet. It slips out but won't fall out.
Gday Nigel, Absolutely brilliant idea, I have a big build coming up soon that going to test the skill set to the limits and there a few small threads to be tapped, I think I best be making one of these first, I hope you don’t mind if I borrow your idea, cheers
We don't buy tools we make them LOL! Someone else commeted that you can actually buy one just like the one I made, and I thought I was being novel! Thanks for your interest.
@@GoCreatehmsQuinn did it a few years ago, and it is common when you purchase it retail, but many people don’t know it is reversible. Nothing wrong with introducing it to anyone not aware!
Ahh, that’s a neat idea. Thank you Nigel 👍👍👏😀
Tales of the unexpected.... Great twist at the end, Nigel. Handy wee tool👍
Always a good video when we get to see the floating reamer holder in action again! Great idea on the retention spring.
GReat job Nigel. I've got to put that "dimple" feature on my shop made tap folower for sure!
Great iadea Nigel
i have loads of taps with a pointy end, it's on my long list of to do's now🤔🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍👍👍

Hi Matty, definatly a good tool to have and quick to make. A large selection of springs to pick from is handy.
Love it , where can I buy one ?.

That is common. Not novel.
LOL, nothings new! I hadn't seen it before but hadn't realy look very hard.

i don't see how you are making good parts with that tailstock sitting lower than you spindle. might want to correct that. great project otherwise.
It’s a floating reamer holder for the tail stock.
