Yes actually, the last mass school shooting to happen in the United Kingdom was conducted by a shooter armed with four handguns, a pair of 9mm semi automatics, and a pair of .357 magnum revolvers. He killed 18 and injured 15 more. In the aftermath the UK placed strong restrictions on handgun ownership. That was in 1996, there have been no school shooting since. The amendment itself is fine. Its the way people abuse the language. The intent was for a small country with no standing army to retain the capacity for self defense. Now that we have a standing army and even a national guard filling the milita role, we dont really have as mich need to be an armed populace.
it made sense when every male citizen was required to be part of "a well-regulated militia" in a newly declared nation that had "won" (bought) it's freedom through warfare, and yet didn't want to create a standing army lest they, the leaders, misuse and abuse that army to punish its own citizens. now that there are state and national guards, and a standing army, it's literally just a panacea for the fools who still believe they're secretly seal team 6 ninja super warriors, instead of accept the reality that they're 6 meal a day, blundering couch potatoes, and a justification for excessive government violence by police: "officer safety" has been the cause of death of thousands of unarmed americans just this century alone ...
The second amendment wasn't a bad idea, I think where it's been taken is the issue. The founding fathers didn't have a crystal ball, they went off what they went through. They felt having arms to defend the country if it went off the rails was a good thing, they didn't know people would be shooting up schools because of it.
"Families deserve to know who the shooter was." Disagree - at this point, the shooter's identity is moot. The only thing anyone needs to know is that the shooter is no longer a threat. His identity is nice-to-know, not need-to-know, information. There's plenty of time to disclose such information after the dust has settled. The shooter's family has rights, too.

The metal detector things is already happening, my school got them started just before Thanksgiving and they SUCK. They’re so inefficient and ineffective that students are held up getting into school, as stated, and because of how poorly designed they are, everyone is required to remove large electronics such as laptops, 3 ring binders and water bottles in order to not trip them, and are given back to the students after they pass through with everything else. It’s only a matter of time until that major flaw gets exploited.
This was a startling notification for me, I have family who go to Christian schools in Madison… I looked into it and fortunately not to that school, but oh my…
It's quite sad that people have access to dangerous weapons in the first place and are using them. Especially mentally ill people who need serious help.
More people were killed by governments than in random shootings. It is unfortunate that the current US American health care system cannot provide adequate therapy for people in need which is one of several reasons why school shootings occur. And yet, if y'all would give up gun ownership, what do you expect to happen? Less police brutality or more?
I find it ironic how they always say "we need to put God back in schools", yet that didn't stop mass pew-pewers from pewing up a CHRISTIAN school.😂 It's almost as if THAT was never a solution.🤔
An extra interesting angle is, according to christianity, god is benevolent, omniscient, and omnipotent. Meaning: He loves us. He knew this would happen. He could have stopped it. _He didn't._ What a loving father above for all the good little Have Faithers! =D
I remember a teacher saying: “With what money? We teachers have to buy school supplies for the classroom. If they’re not willing to pay for pencils who’s paying for the guns and training?”
I actually went under lockdown once! This shit shouldn’t be happening,it’s disgusting how people will respond to a big issue in society (US at least) with such blatant disregard for whatever is being discussed.
OKAY BUT, even as progressive as I am, I gotta point out something that absolutely infuriates me: Saying "most mass shootings are done with AR-15's, so let's ban AR-15's" is like saying "most car accidents happen with sedans, so let's ban sedans". AR-15's are just a base size/model that others build off of. It's a generalization for rifles with a similar lower receiver and hand guard. It amounts to scare tactics and anyone with any semblance of firearm knowledge immediately smells BS when you say that. If you wanna get really into the statistics of firearm violence, you could say most homicides happen with handguns - and I would be *ABSOLUTELY* on board with tighter regulations on handguns.
To be fair, in my state, you can get a rifle at 18 but must be 21 to get a handgun... And I live In a state with very few other restrictions beyond federal ones. Personally, I am on-board with requiring prospective shooters to pass safety tests not dissimilar to a driver's license test, including specialized endorsements for certain types of firearms. (I don't think the prospective owner should have to pay out-of-pocket for the required tests/training tho. Promoting safe handling and proper respect for weapons.) Oh yeah, and barring domestic abusers and those with restraining orders from having guns.
I actually wanna a bit a of discussion about this because similarly to the train all teachers to be john wick bit i think the gun control idea is being underestimated in terms of difficulty. There's more guns registered in the country than people at this point right? how do we reasonably reign that in at this point? or is the idea to limit future sales or target a specific type of weapon? I'm curious if anyone has any ideas or if there was proposed legislature about this.
You're definitely right, the US is too far gone for lasting change to be made quickly with legislation, my only idea for legislation is essentially to expand the personnel, training, and equipment of the police while increasing the penalties for crimes committed with a firearm and/or while carrying one, even if not using it to do crime
@ these are decent ideas but some counter points to further the conversation. With cases like Uvalde where police failed critically I think recruitment needs to be scrutinized as well as increased and more over county’s that have had shootings need to be investigated/reviewed for lack luster responses to threats or active shooters. Having more officers doesn’t help if they aren’t taking their job seriously. A heavy handed response to exaggerated or falsified claims in scenarios like this at least in my opinion are preferable to the shootings. Adding onto this I think any threats need to be charged similarly to attempted murder and as I’ve been seeing more recently that gun owning parents or guardians should be charged alongside would be or actual shooters. Whether or not you think civilian guns belong in the country since they’re here anyway their owners need to be held accountable for their keeping. As for increased penalties for gun crimes the idea sounds good but what increase is there to realistically make? Lotta mass shooters take themselves off the board following their actions or get taken out by someone else. The ones that do get prosecuted get life don’t they?
@@J-vi7pl oh and one more point I think needs to be considered is the shooter themselves. I imagine 300+ people annually don't go to sleep fine one day and wanna end lives the next morning. especially kids. we need to actually invest resources into maintaining and tracking the mental health of the public because the amount of reports coming out that the signs were there for weeks months YEARS prior to the act is disturbing in and of itself. parents teachers other kids, nobody of the likely hundreds of people these killers interacted with on a day to day saw anything alarming? unlikely I think. thats my two cents anyway
@I_saw_that956 definitely agree, I suppose I would add that you could increase numbers by lowering the entry standard for the academy and increasing the standards to get out, this would allow more people to get in and be able to make the most of training, at worst, we end up with a group of regular citizens with some training who couldn't make it as cops but would have some practical knowledge. Your comments on sentencing is pretty valid, I think most gun violence is actually more accurately described as domestic violence, with the next being suicide and gang-on-gang. My idea for increasing sentencing for crimes committed while the perpetrator is in physical possession of a firearm but didn't use it is to make criminals more likely to leave their weapon at home. Your idea about holding parents and guardians of offenders is also pretty interesting, I think that would probably go a fair way to incentivising parents to take care of their charges' mental health.
@ the idea with the academy standards is fantastic, maximizing the potential for officers while minimizing the risk bad ones get through. A mandatory external review or refresher course every few years could help as well. my only concern with the additional penalties on gun carrying would just be the wording of the legislation, I know it sounds like a no brainer but I don’t think say someone jaywalking or littering while carrying should get the penalty like someone committing burglary or assault. It sounds stupid to write out but there are a lot of laws federally or state wise people aren’t aware of and or break because there’s no prosecution for them. But if there was upgrading the charges for it would be a point of contention. the guardians being charged also incentivizes them to properly store firearms, reducing the risk of shootings specifically at least. Additionally I think a potential investigation and penalty, criminal or otherwise, on school boards or such about a shooting taking place would be a way to prevent escalation to this point to begin with. In my and others experience faculty and the board usually doesn’t take issues seriously or get involved until things escalate to violence. I’m aware they can’t know everything and be everywhere but I feel like the board could be doing more and isn’t because nobody is making them. At least not before a tragedy happens.
While I do agree that guns, especially ones like AR-15s, are way to accessible, the biggest issue I feel is the severe mental health crisis in America. If our government started addressing the mental health issues that are growing more and more frequent in its citizens and what’s causing them, it would be a huge help to so many issues including this, getting people mental help before they go off the deep end. But the government doesn’t care because it’s less money in their pocket
Wrong. The availability of guns isn't the problem, its the mental health of the students. Too much stress causes this stuff to happen, none if it would happen if schools cared enough.
This is why we need Bibles in school - wait a min........... but seriously fuck this world we leave in. It's crazy that we are known for mass shootings, and we won't do anything about it. RIP to those we lost
Suicide rates go up when you look at gun owners. Having easy access to a lethal weapon is a horrible thing for people experiencing depression and/or anxiety disorders.
Guns are a quick and easy way to die compared to most other options. When I was a kid, there were some days where I wanted to die, but I was thankfully held back bc I didn't have easy access to a firearm, and the other options scared me too much.
@@Thisratisrockinbut the issue with metal detectors are it takes longer to get into the building and the most notable one it's expensive. the issue applies for schools that are on a strict budget. in the US we have a lot of schools like these that's why we don't rlly have these safety features
Also Loogi 3d printed his pew-pew, it's already extremely hard and expensive for people to do that, like... way harder and costly-er than just going down to bubba's bang store..
I don’t think ar15 should be outlawed but at the same time I believe guns are too accessible for everyone. I definitely believe there should be no same day gun purchase and acquisition. Also forced gun registration so you have register to something that you own the fire arm. More requirements of education to get guns. Just ideas for reducing morons and emotionally unhinged individuals from getting guns
There's already a wait period on all firearm purchases, don't worry. Firearms are also registered on purchase, if i remember right. The only "legal" way to get an unregistered firearm is to make it yourself. I do agree with you on education requirements though; 90% of states just ask that you're not a criminal. We need licenses, and we need mandatory firearm safety training in order to get those licenses.
I've spent my whole life in a country that celebrates it's guns and death, be it justified or unjustified. i WAS mad at gun violence and I DO want better gun laws. But since such peace won't happen in my lifetime, the next option is to not care. It's the saddest, most hopeless feeling, but this is america and I don't have a choice.

its easy to understand why. the 2nd amendment protects the rights to bear arms. and the supreme court decided states should have the authority for gun regulation. if we wanna do sumthing the easiest solution is for all states to have that but it is also the hardest. if we want to do it national that is 99.99% impossible.

Aside from guns being far too easily accessible and gun control is needed in America there are also so many other things we can do that isn’t gun control that would help immensely however the people who don’t want gun control also don’t want things that would objectively bring violent crimes in general down like social safety nets easily accessible medicine and therapy social workers should get paid more so they actually are able to do their job and care about their (often mentally unstable) patients instead of being burned out and underpaid which inevitably leads to them neglecting their patients there should be more early intervention when it comes to helping these clearly unwell people you see these quiet kids getting mercilessly bullied or they have hundreds of warning signs that go unnoticed until they hurt someone

No wonder the Europeans make fun of us
Down here in Australia we have very strict gun laws, and the only time anything like this happened was 10 years ago and we still have memorials for it today. That's how rare it is for something like that to happen in a country where owning a firearm as a civilian is illegal.
@rowanroberts1851 Switzerland and the Czech Republic have comparetively loose gun laws and they don't have school shootings either.
The USA just have a horrible healthcare system and bullying culture.
@@thomas.thomas Cherry picking a few countries that have loose gun control and don't have schools shootings is nothing more than an excuse to avoid acknowledging the many many MANY more countries that have less gun deaths in any contexts by having stricter gun control laws. the second amendment was always a bad idea, watching this from a country that doesn't have it makes it look so crazy
The amendment itself is fine. Its the way people abuse the language.
The intent was for a small country with no standing army to retain the capacity for self defense.
Now that we have a standing army and even a national guard filling the milita role, we dont really have as mich need to be an armed populace.
Funny thing is, the current interpretation is a relatively recent thing. I think it started in the 70s, but I could be wrong on the timing.
it made sense when every male citizen was required to be part of "a well-regulated militia" in a newly declared nation that had "won" (bought) it's freedom through warfare, and yet didn't want to create a standing army lest they, the leaders, misuse and abuse that army to punish its own citizens.
now that there are state and national guards, and a standing army, it's literally just a panacea for the fools who still believe they're secretly seal team 6 ninja super warriors, instead of accept the reality that they're 6 meal a day, blundering couch potatoes, and a justification for excessive government violence by police: "officer safety" has been the cause of death of thousands of unarmed americans just this century alone ...
The second amendment wasn't a bad idea, I think where it's been taken is the issue. The founding fathers didn't have a crystal ball, they went off what they went through. They felt having arms to defend the country if it went off the rails was a good thing, they didn't know people would be shooting up schools because of it.
how is the second amendment a bad idea? the bad idea is not protecting schools the same way we protect celebrities and elected officials.
"Families deserve to know who the shooter was."
Disagree - at this point, the shooter's identity is moot. The only thing anyone needs to know is that the shooter is no longer a threat. His identity is nice-to-know, not need-to-know, information. There's plenty of time to disclose such information after the dust has settled. The shooter's family has rights, too.
Idk know what else the people are supposed to say when guns have more rights than people🤷♂️
Huh... seems not even magic space wizards can stop guns. Good to know

Me: I have no earthly idea. 🥱

I think a large part of unnecessary use of force is because weapons are widely carried.

“What are you gonna *_dooo??”_*
I expected the violent response to be more… topical.
OKAY BUT, even as progressive as I am, I gotta point out something that absolutely infuriates me:
Saying "most mass shootings are done with AR-15's, so let's ban AR-15's" is like saying "most car accidents happen with sedans, so let's ban sedans". AR-15's are just a base size/model that others build off of. It's a generalization for rifles with a similar lower receiver and hand guard. It amounts to scare tactics and anyone with any semblance of firearm knowledge immediately smells BS when you say that.
If you wanna get really into the statistics of firearm violence, you could say most homicides happen with handguns - and I would be *ABSOLUTELY* on board with tighter regulations on handguns.
how do you sleep at night; you've got blood on your hands
@@franklinshepardinc how?
To be fair, in my state, you can get a rifle at 18 but must be 21 to get a handgun... And I live In a state with very few other restrictions beyond federal ones.
Personally, I am on-board with requiring prospective shooters to pass safety tests not dissimilar to a driver's license test, including specialized endorsements for certain types of firearms. (I don't think the prospective owner should have to pay out-of-pocket for the required tests/training tho. Promoting safe handling and proper respect for weapons.)
Oh yeah, and barring domestic abusers and those with restraining orders from having guns.
Bro finally fought back
Wrong. The availability of guns isn't the problem, its the mental health of the students. Too much stress causes this stuff to happen, none if it would happen if schools cared enough.
