I feel like a spoiled brat asking for even more info than what you've already given out but if you don't mind: 1.) do you use a cloudlifter between the mic and the preamp? 2.) do you have the +4db on the back of the preamp engaged or do you leave it at -10db? 3.) assuming you're running the preamp into an interface, do you leave the gain on the interface at 0? That's what I've been told to do but it gives me very little if any response in the DAW when doing it that way. Thank you so much for your videos man.

I haven’t used the dps but can agree on the MPA. It’s my first suggestion when people ask what I recommend for an entry preamp. A lot of people in my blind test even said the MPA sounded the best so it just goes to show it doesn’t cost a lot to get great sound and knowing how to properly use your equipment will take you a long way!
Hello sir, good vid! I just picked one of these up. Upon referring to the owners manual and watching your vid, I noticed that the led tube warmth meters are always pegged in the red . Following your set up instructions , they remain that way. I noticed yours move up and down with your talking. However the VU meter works just fine. What am I doing wrong? What kind of mount (2u) do I need which does not screw into anything and is standalone on the desk? Do I even need a chassis of any sort?

I believe so. The benefit of the voice channel being that it also acts as a processor among other additional features. Voice channel is fire for sure 🔥 you could take a look at the pro channel II I use to have one years ago and even for not knowing how to properly use it like I know now, it still sounded great

+4 and keep the needle between 10-7 but don’t worry if it spikes about 7. You’re reaching for 10-7 so you have plenty of headroom with zero tube distortion in post. Makes for a very easy to work with clean recording!

Nope I’m using the stock tubes! A lot of people have been asking if I’d ever do a tube swap and I wasn’t thinking about doing it because it already sounds great but I might now that I think of it
That’s really tough to pick they’re both very good. I think if I had to pick between the two I’d go with the MPA II because of the price. For $350 you can’t beat it. The 1073 is nice don’t get me wrong but, for $350 and the quality you get, it’s unbelievably good. I’m going to do a side by side video soon on these preamps and make my decision which I like best!
Hey just a quick question, I am running my SM7B through this and I find even with phantom power. plate voltage and +20 db engaged there isnt enough power to hit between 7 to 10 on the VU and also hit my - 10 peaking in my daw on my vocal track. is it okay to go over your recommended parameters for the VU to get it louder on my track, thanks.
I see both channel flash did wire in series in the right and link it to the left side then out the left to your interface. ? I have a map gold with a updated value.
as the manual says, if you engage the high plate mode, put the output gain to -5. The result is incredible

Gain on interface set to zero, put the interface in line, and I didn’t use any plugins while tracking but that’s totally up to you

u should set up ur impedence 5 to 10 times more than the output ohms of ur microphone

Dont use phantom power. It will destroy a dynamic mic.
