Dolly Parton, not David Foster, wrote and released "I Will Always Love You" nearly 20 years before it was used in The Bodyguard. In fact, it was one of Dolly's many chart-topping country hits!
I literally came here to say this!!Out of all this video that made me so mad and i couldn’t get past it!!
😂
Me too. 😂
Thanks.
It's not the first time they've made that mistake. 🙈
I pretty much just commented this but in all caps.😢
Thank you!! I was aghast that she said that!
In fact, Elvis almost recorded a cover of the song
"I Will Always Love You" was definitely not written for The Bodyguard. It was written 20+ years earlier by the one, the only, Miss Dolly Parton.
FUN FACT
In 1998, Angela Bassett was the same age as her character "Stella"; 40 years old.
Im still in awe of Angela Bassett. She is still absolutely stunning. I still can't believe shes 65 years old with absolutely no wrinkles
She was also Tina Turner in the biographical movie Whats Love Got To Do With It
The power duos of Richard Gere/Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks, and Drew Barrymore/Adam Sandler are *chef's kiss* magic.
I will always love you was NOT WRITTEN for the Bodyguard, Dolly Parton did it LONG before
Came here to say that. Dolly did it almost 20 years before this movie came out.
That’s not the song was referring too.
Oh yes it is. Dolly wrote and sang it in 1974 (it was a single), recorded it again for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas soundtrack in 1982 - then The Bodyguard bought the rights for Whitney to use it for the movie. In fact, Dolly thanked Whitney for making her all that money. The other original big hits in The Bodyguard are I Have Nothing and I'm Every Woman, which David Foster and Linda Thompson did co-write for Whitney and the movie.@@theresebell1198
I Have Nothing is the song written by David Foster that she was referring to. Although I Will Always Love You is the most iconic and credited
That wasn’t her only iconic song written for the movie tho.
8:34 FUN FACT
The iconic scene in Pretty Woman where Richard Gere (Edward) snaps a jewelry box on Julia Roberts' (Vivian) fingers was originally staged as a practical joke. At the last minute, Director Gary Marshall and his exiting team decided to include this scene in the final cut of Pretty Woman
I Will Always Love You was not written for the Bodyguard Dolly Parton wrote that song in the 1974 it was covered by Whitney Houston in the Bodyguard.
FYI, "I Will Always Love You" was written in the 1970s by Dolly Parton. It was not written for The Bodyguard.
I will always love you WAS NOT written for the movie. It's a cover of a song by Dolly Parton! I saw a tik tok of someone saying a white man singing this song was cultural appropriation. But it was written and sung by a white woman, covered by Whitney Houston.
I wish that the producers get their info straight before start a new episode. “I will always love you” is not Whitney’s song, is actually Dolly Parton who wrote it and performed it.
Virtual hug to the girl who's going through a breakup!
I like the fact that Ryker was gushing over Taye Diggs!
Ryker is here just for the ride LOL he’s so precious
FUN FACT: “I will always love you was originally sung by Dolly Parton. In fact, Dolly Parton wrote and sang that song.
Um...Dolly Parton wrote "I Will Always Love You." She also wrote Jolene on the same day.
There are also iconic songs like queen of the night, run to you and I have nothing…
Poor janielle. I feel you girl. Keep your head up and your heart pure sweetie.
Dolly Parton, I Will Always Love You, was actually performed in a movie before this and it was Best Little Whorehouse In Texas.
That was the best version of the song in my opinion. So much emotion put into it. Power can never beat emotion.
Whitney Houston's most iconic song was not written for The Bodyguard. Dolly Parton wrote it for when she left the Porter Wagner show and she performed it in the movie Best Little W-House In Texas. Sheesh.
ps got them all, and I probably only watched them once, some of them not at all but I recognize the actors.
I'm sorry, but " I Will Always Love You" was originally sang by Dolly Parton in 1974. It was written as a farewell to her business partner and mentor Porter Wagoner.
Oh. 😐.
2:44 Janelle sending you virtual 🫂 hugs
I Will Always Love You was not written for The Bodyguard! It's a Dolly Parton's song!
Fun Fact #2: The necklace scene was also improvised. Richard Gere actually shut the case in Julia Roberts hand and her reaction was genuine. She was hungover and feeling like crud so Richard wanted to make her smile and it worked for the characters so well that they kept it in the film.
Correct and I also heard that she had just had a break up irl, I think with Kiefer Sutherland, and was sad, so Richard did it to make her smile.
15:33 NO!!! ‘I Will Always Love You” was written by Dolly Pardon…WAY BEFORE The Bodyguard !!!
I hate that people think that anyone but Dolly wrote this song.
Kayla looks like a Pokémon trainer, and I love it!
The song that David Foster (and Linda Thompson) wrote for this movie was I Have Nothing. As many others have stated I Will Always Love You was written/recorded by Dolly Parton a couple decades earlier.
Kevin contacted Dolly and requested that THIS song to be used, Whitney had never heard the song before this, Dolly sent them permission and was blown away when she heard it on the radio for the soundtrack...This was the 3rd time this song went Gold on the records
Ryker swooning over Taye Diggs is all of us
Very true.
How is Witney Houson song written for the Bodyguard? When it was ""I Will Always Love You" is a song written and originally recorded in 1973 by American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton."
exactly this host doesn't know anything, and she kept giving away the answers. find another one
Also The Bodyguard isn't a comedy.
@@KittiesofEvil Great point, it is a romantic, thriller, drama film.
It was 74 not 73 but you were right on everything else.
@@jodytollefson7187Lets see then Recorded June 12, 1973, Released March 11, 1974. So you say it was witten in 1974, after it was recorded. I ask how is that possible?
Did you just suggest that I will always love you was written for this movie? Girl, it was a Dolly Parton song from the 70s. It was not written for this film. David Foster may have done the arrangement for Whitney's version but get your facts straight.
I will always love you was a Dolly Parton song in 1973. It wasn't written for the Bodyguard. But Whitney did smash it. Try giving the Dolly Parton version a listen. Its super sweet.
David Foster did not write I will always love you...the queen Dolly Parton did.
I will always love you was written by Dolly to say goodbye to Porter since she was leaving his show (1974). She even re recorded another country version in 1982 from a movie I can't remember the name of. But yeah, wasn't written from The Bodyguard
Best Little Whorehouse in Texas - and bioth the original and the 82 version topped the charts
No, no, no! Producer Beba is incorrect. Starting at 15:31 she says that "... there's actually the most iconic Whitney Houston song was written for this movie." and this simply is not true. Dolly Parton wrote it back in 1973 as a farewell to her business partner Porter Wagoner when she was wanting to start her solo career. It was not written for "My Bodyguard", but Dolly tells of hearing Whitney's version on the radio while driving and she said that she had to pull over and listen because it was so good. Dolly says that Whitney made that song her own, but it was not written for her. Get your facts straight!
It would be more accurate to say that Whitney's most famous song was RECORDED for this movie.
I will always Love You was written by Dolly Parton when Whitney was 9 years old... Not written for the Bodyguard.
I SOOOOOOOO hat to correct the host....The most iconic Whitney song categorically WAS NOT WRITTEN for this movie. it was written and recorded by the SONGWRITER Dolly Parton in 1973. It was chosen to be rerecorded by Whitney for this move, but it had already had 20 years as a hit before that "I will Always Love you"
It was 1974 not 73 but your right on everything else.
Love that my Cousin wrote and sing this song before anyone else
I felt that "oh my god" in my soul when they didn't know instant messenger 😂
I will always love you wasn't written for The Bodyguard. It was written by Dolly Parton for her manager.
Ma'am, I Will Always Love You is a Dolly Parton cover from the 70s! It was not written for The Bodyguard!
Came here to say this !
I really hope they have meant "I have nothing", but Dani started to sing wrong one!
Thank you. Needed to be said.
julia roberts certainly did a lot of rom coms in the 90's
And a lot of them with Richard Gere…
@@amandareeves7797 yeah i noticed that, you don't see either one of them in movies anymore
Dolly Parton wrote I Will Always Love You in the 70's. It was not written by David Foster. Whitney did a phenomenal job with it, but please give Dolly the proper credit. I LOVE Dolly's original version. You don't get more classic than Dolly.
Thanks... I was like.. What the heck? That is all Dolly.
This iconic song was not written for Whitney Dolly wrote it for Porter Wagner in the 70's, which was before Whitney was out elementary school
David wrote a new arrangement of the song for Whitney.
Maybe she was referring to I Have Nothing? Calling it "the most iconic Whitney song" is arguable, but it was written for The Bodyguard by David Foster.
that doesn't change the fact that this song was not written for this movie@@PilotHardy
I came here to agree with the others. Dolly Parton wrote, "I Will Always Love You," yeeeeaaarrsss before Whitney touched it!!!!
Noone seen While you were Sleeping????? It's literally the Greatest
If you really want to know how Stella got her groove back, watch the movie. Really good.
Continuously giggling over the button yelling out "ROM-COM!"
I Will Always Love You was NOT written for this movie. It was a Dolly Parton song written decades earlier. You need new researchers
I Will Always Love You wasn't written for the Bodyguard.
I laughed out loud when she said that. *She's* young too.
RIP Paul Walker and Heath Ledger 😢
Wait, how did the host not know that it was a Dolly Parton song long before Whitney sang it and long before the movie came out
Poor Janelle was going through it! Chin up, girl! 👍
angel gets it wrong and demands 5 more tries while not allowing carolinas correct answer. where is the moderator?
I am screaming that the kids know that if you take out your ponytail, and take off your glasses, you too can be the prettiest girl in school 😂
"do you know instant messenger" "no" - instant old 😂
Why the gloves? They were going to the Opera - she was wearing opera gloves!
"i will always love you" definitely was NOT written by david foster, much less for the movie. it was written and sang by *dolly parton* in 70s.
Came to say exactly this.
It was for The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas if I remember correctly
@@selinathwaites8144It was written as a farewell to Porter Wagoner when she left his show.
I will always love you was not written for The Bodyguard. It's a cover of a Dolly Parton song, she wrote, like 20 years before.
The research on some of these episodes has been woeful...
"All she had to do was let her hair down and take off her glasses."
Welcome to the origin of that romcom movie trope.
The song I Will Always Love You was not written for the movie Bodyguard. It is not a Whitney Houston song. It is a Dolly Parton song and was on the album Jolene and came out in 1974. She used the song in the movie The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
David Foster wrote a new arrangement for Whitney for the movie.
Wanna feel old? Watch someone point at Julia flipping Roberts and say “oh, I recognize her.” 😂😩
I love how Ryker is the only one here who just doesn’t know shit about 90s romcom 😂😂😂
As other people have pointed out, Dolly Parton wrote “I Will Always Love You” in 1974… but don’t feel bad, Forbes reported Parton earned $10 million for Houston's version of her 1973 song. She is still making money from the recording today!
On a more significant point… How is The Bodyguard a ROM-COM!?! 🤯🤦🏻♂️
Lolol Ryker was totally in love with Taye Diggs and it’s awesome!!
I am glad there are more and more videos with Beba hosting. I love her vibe and her voice is so soothing.
Shame on you - Dolly Parton wrote I Will Love You Always and performed it in 1974 - then it was used in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
Y'all come back now ya here!
DOLLY PARTON WROTE THAT SONG!!!
What song?
Thank you! Exactly what I was coming here to say.
@@skafreak121 🙏
I will always love you
@@kimdeese6410 Aw! You're so sweet 💕
Whew this list just reminded me of how iconic Julia Roberts is.
Damn, Julia Roberts ran that Era
Seriously!
And can somebody make a correction about the Bodyguard movie? The song was written in the 70´s by Dolly Parton... Even in the movie we hear a country version of the song, where they are dancing...
I was going to say the same thing. Disgusted that that was said.
but whitney did her version for the movie ,so wouldnt they be right when they said she made i will always love you for the movie.
@@dakid40777 no, because the producer said it was a song written by David Foster, which I Will Always Love You most definitely isn't.
I thought she was referencing I Have Nothing, which was written by David for this movie.
They are wrong about "I will always love you" being written for the Bodyguard. It was written by Dolly Parton as a farewell to Porter Wagner when she was leaving his show.
16:56 "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Buggles is also on The Wedding Singer soundtrack.
It was the #1 hit in Australia on my birthdate.
It was also the first song played on MTV.
I will always love you was wrote and sung by dolly parton for her partner
it looks like kayla is about to go pokemon hunting
The body guard is not a romcom. I’d say it’s more of a drama.
I agree. I've seen the movie, and it's definitely more of a drama, a dramedgy maybe(drama with a touch of tragedy)?
I will always love you was not written for the movie its a Dolly Parton song
Put some respect on Dolly Parton's name!!!!
Yeah I'm pretty sure Dolly didn't write I Will Always Love You for a movie that came out twenty years later.
Hell, it's not even the first movie a version of the song was recorded for.
maybe she meant i have nothing.
How dare you say I will always love you was written for the movie and even more importantly how dare you not give Dolly Parton her credit. Dolly Parton wrote that song as way to say goodbye to her musical partner whom she leaving to have her solo music career.
Not really her partner, but her boss, it was his show she sang on, usually along too.
The fact that most of these are Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan...haha i love these movies. I use to watch While You Were Sleeping daily and still have the VHS...haha
Viviene is obviously high as a kite 😂
Really miss the 90s shows and movies and everything
Great episode!
15:29 "I didn't even know Whitney Houston made movies." Girl you have got to watch her as The Fairy Godmother in the 1997 version of "Cinderella" with Brandy!
and that song was written for this movie decades before
Yeah and another which Waiting to Exhale, The Preacher's Wife .. and more
Vivienne's parents deprived her man 😭😂
ARE YOU SERIOUS? SO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS THAT DOLLY PARTON CAN SEE THE FUTURE. FFS. DUDE, SO DISRESPECTFUL.
I'm watching this and I'm getting all of them. Then I remember, I'm 36. 😂
I like sofia more and more every episode she is in, she is quiet but she knows a lot
Janelle needs a hug 😁
My favorite is the wedding singer
Mine too!
Richard Gere and Julia Roberts made something like 89% of all rom coms in the 90´s it seems with the rest being Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks :D
I will always love you was not flipping written for the Bodyguard! It is a Dolly Parton cover.
Also, Kayla looks like a popstar! You go girl!
also... did they really label this a Rom-Com?
@@BenjiSunLol yeah that is weird, I didn't even consider that. Definately not a romcom.
there i sabsolutely no comedic part in it.
GIRL!!!! Lol Dolly Parton wrote "I Will Always Love You!!! 😂
I just rewatched my best friend’s wedding on a whim, and I see this video today😅…. They don’t make rom coms like they used to anymore
These teens didn’t know that was Paul Walker in She’s All That.😮
Gosh Julia Robert's was the queen of romantic comedies in the 90's
Jerry Maguire was a rom-com ? 😂 damn all i remember from that movie is the show me the money scene 😂😂 all these years i been thinking its a sport movie lol
Yeah, there's like 5 minutes worth of sports in that movie.
I wouldn't call 'The Bodyguard' a romcom...
Julia Roberts was ALL over our screens in the 90's
They called Julia Roberts for all the RomComs lol
I Will Always Love You was NOT written for the movie
The bodyguard doest feel like a comedy rom felt more like drama and romance
I agree. They could have picked Blast From The Past or Never Been Kissed instead.
@@toodlescae or the proposal
@@Rima27ifyThe Proposal is from 2009 - not the 90s
@@amandabaker4678 ooops my fault thanks
Wow, if "The Bodyguard" is a rom-com, then maybe "Basic Instinct" should be on here too.
5:24 LOVE You've Got Mail (1998)!
That is required Rom-Com!
