thanks for this video! Really appreciated the detailed install especially the levelling kit. Extremely useful for my son & I installing our B&W 25k hitch. Instructions weren't real clear on the leveling kit but your video made it clear. edit: The best part is they are made in the USA!!

Thanks for watching! I appreciate that the hitch is made in the USA also.

Long bed Ford here too, but I opted to mount the support arms the other way to keep the king pin back a little further, which gives me a little more tailgate clearance. At 14:15 it looks like you are right up against your trailer. If you hitch up at a slight angle it looks like it will hit.

You’re 100% correct. I have to be very careful that I’m backing in straight toward the trailer.

I've heard of B&W (I've also heard of Reese, in fact I have a Reese hitch on my Crown Vic) they're a good company with a good product! This hitch looks really nice and easy to install and hook up to. Thanks for the install and demo, Chad! 😎

Thanks for watching! I used a Reese weight distribution hitch on our bumper-tow camper before we purchased the 5th wheel. I still have that hitch in my garage. Reese makes good quality hitches also.
The B&W was a simple assembly and feels very sturdy. We towed the camper about 50 miles to a campground using the B&W Companion last week - it tows great!

I clip my break away brake cable to the hitch latch arm too. It's safer there than anywhere in the bed where it might get snagged by cargo, which is much more likely, and possibly as dangerous, as the whole hitch pulling out. That hitch is not going to rip out. Also, I love the recoiling brake cables that are available. You might look into one of them.

Thanks! I didn't know that. I figured the same 3 main hitch types were used around the world (bumper tow, 5th wheel, gooseneck). I learned something new!

Hmmmm....no mention of the Andersen hitch? Will there be a comparison coming up, or is there more unsaid to the story? Inquiring minds want to know Chad!!! 😉👍😎

Hi Chris - I was wondering if someone would ask! I had absolutely no complaints about the Andersen hitch. I just had this opportunity to try the B&W, so I wanted to give it a shot too. If I were shopping for a 5th wheel hitch today, these are definitely the two that I would be considering - so it was great to have both to try. I may do a comparison in the future. I do see advantages to each. I really like them both.

Great video. Thanks. Why did you switch from the Andersen Ultimate Hitch? I am using the Andersen for my toy hauler and so far having good luck except for the constant fight of the articulation and the tonneau cover rail impacts.

I didn't have any complaints about the Andersen hitch. I just wanted to try the B&W hitch so that I could talk about it with those that follow Purple Collar Life. I am very impressed with both hitches.

I know you switched to Anderson hitch but I was just wanting any information on B&W
    Any issues?
    Any disconnect advise ?
Are you able to connect at different angles ?
What was the reason for the switch to Anderson? It’s ok if it was just a sponsorship video and testing reviewing product, I trust your opinion.

We wanted to try both hitches - the B&W and the Andersen. We have had 0 issues with either type. The B&W is a standard type connection - we made a video of connecting to our previous hitch here: th-cam.com/video/2H24Kva7_e0/w-d-xo.html
We have been at some articulation angles, but nothing severe. I did notice that at some angles, the hitch does not easily release the kingpin. It takes some manipulation and can then be difficult to reconnect. It’s always best to be mostly level left-to-right and front-to-back between the truck and the trailer when at all possible. There have been times that I’ve actually put some boards under one side of the TRUCK back wheels to level things up before disconnecting or connecting to the 5th wheel.
We definitely liked both. There are 2 reasons we use the B&W most of the time. Reason 1 - it prevents me from backing too far toward the trailer. The hitch makes contact with the king pin and keeps the tailgate from potentially hitting the camper. Since the Andersen requires lining up the ball with the hole - there’s potential to hit the tailgate on the trailer. Reason 2 - it allows the kingpin to remain “stock”. If something would happen to my truck and the trailer would need to be towed by a friend or tow service, a standard 5th wheel hitch can tow it. With the Andersen - I’d need to remove the connector portion of the kingpin adapter. Great questions. Thanks.

Nice truck but I seen in one of your videos that you bought the AUH do you still like it, I had two of the B&W hitches they are build solid?

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's correct - we've used both the AUH and the B&W. I like both for different reasons. I don't know if I would be able to say which I like better. I pick one or the other depending on the trip. Thanks for watching!

What camera did you have attached to the pinbox?

Need to drop that pin in the handle from the top if the bail would fail the pin won't fall out

I actually thought of that while I was doing it. I've put it in through the top ever since. Thanks for leaving the comment!

Another great video Chad, just installed this same hitch by following your instructions.
What I did for the cable was to put a 6ft coiled cable on the trailer and installed a retractable tie down in the driver rear stake pocket. Keep the brake cable up away from everything and tied to the corner of the truck instead of the hitch.

      Thanks for letting us know!
Good idea to get the longer cable and connect to the stake pocket. I've been thinking about getting a longer one, putting a quick clip on the end and connecting it to the tie-down point at the bottom back (driver's side) corner of the bed.

You don't show how to actually get that darn spring over the metal arm! It's a bear!

It’s been a while since we made this video - but I don’t recall having an issue with it. Do you mean that little spring that holds the top in the correct position?
