She's one of my favorite players, I hope someone pulls her to the side and explain there is no revenue to share. If the players aren't careful they're going to end up picking up some of the operational costs that are currently subsidized by the NBA and really have no salaries. That being said there are other areas in the CBA they should negotiate, when college players are eligible, pay grade and scale, business practices and a few other things short-term that will benefit the league long-term.
The WNBA paying the same percentage would bankrupt the company. They cannot afford to do that. They’d have to move into smaller arenas, it’s not free to play in 20,000 seat arenas. They’d have to drive or fly themselves to games, transportation is expensive. They wouldn’t even be making more than they are now, really, they’d be making around the same money they already are. The problem in the WNBA is the profit of the company is outweighed by the yearly spending to even keep it afloat.
WNBA players gotta stop comparing themselves to NBA players. Its a horrible comparison. This woman with a straight face is asking for a piece of revenue that doesn’t exist. Technically speaking, if they shared, she would owe money every year.smh

She didn’t mention nobody buys her jersey, nobody comes to the games, and nobody watches the games on tv. Essentially the WNBA is a charity for women basketball players.
She didn't explain the entire situation as they do get paid for jersey sales but, they have to hit a certain milestone in order to do so. My guess is, Nike spends so much money making the jerseys and before they get paid for the sales, Nike has to make their money back plus some and that milestone has never been met. With the NBA, that milestone is met every single year. Also, if they were to get paid the same percentage as the NBA, they'd be paying the league as they've never turned a profit.

I appreciate this clarification because I've never seen an interview where someone actually provided this important context. However, it's probably more complicated than bumping their revenue share from 10% to 50%. The average operating income for an NBA team is $70 million while the wnba is still not profitable. I think the NBA is still providing a $15 million dollar subsidy to help cover operating expenses like travel. That would mean the NBA would have to cover any increase in WNBA player pay. But the league is gaining traction. Hopefully, their viewership will rise to a level to make this happen for them.
@@Eleven1of1 but answer me this, does the WNBA get more fans/views on tv and money than the NBA. Your answer: Is “ NO.” Why because the WNBA is in fact getting paid low, but at what cost, their gameplay can put a baby too sleep in mins, their not equally aggressive and exiting like the men, so that’s why, their views and fans sections not pack like the nba games, because their not playing “ as they is a professional basketball player.” They play like their in the AAU team or G-league. But whatever
If I own a company that is losing me money then I'm probably firing employees. Not paying you more. What don't you understand about a failing business?
Umm plainly because the WNBA doesn’t have a revenue. The league doesn’t make money. Every year the leagues cost to run is more than the money it makes. So in this concept the players would owe the league money. It’s call economics. The WNBA is funded by the profits from the NBA
@deontajohnson5537 because theres no profits. She wants a raise from a company that keeps losing money. Imagine a waiter asking for a raise from a restaurant that has no customers.
You're not gonna get paid the same revenue percentage share because your league loses millions of dollars a year and it is subsidized by the NBA your league cannot survive on its own, and if it wasn't for the the NBA subsidizing, you believe would have crashed one month. After it opened...😢
Revenue and profit aren’t the same thing. They make revenue it’s just isn’t enough to cover their expenses. So she wants to take the little money they make and give more of it to the players. That’s like your company doing bad and your employees asking for a raise
What is 50% of -$10,000,000. The WNBA (until this year) was losing money every year. Asking for a percentage of revenue when there is none is just stupid.
There are fixed costs in any business endeavor. It costs the same for the lease of the facility the same to turn on the lights, to turn on the heat/AC, whether the facility is empty or full. Those costs have to be covered first.
95% of people in these comments need to learn the difference between Revenue and Profit. Revenue is top line, before expenses. Virtually always a positive number because it’s total sales. Everyone saying the percentage of revenue would be negative for the WNBA, you’re thinking about Profit (Revenue-Expenses).
its not that case because its a charity league and there is no revenue shared, I don't need to elaborate that part! Who would buy those jersey's? what networks will invest on a league not selling tickets and only plays on a small gym between 7k to 9k capacity and only 1/3 is sold. 2024 though has a lot of changes but its been shadowed by hate and jealousy. C'mon 4k tickets sell is not worth a CBA contract or its should not be the same business talks as the NBA.
I quitted my job about 6 years ago , and had nothing to do, I hanged out in a big mall whole day everyday for over a year. I never see anyone wears a WNBA jersey.
She still doesn’t understand that there isn’t enough revenue to go around . The league doesn’t make money to share with the athletes . The NBA subsidizes it 😅
All these "players" talking like they've got a gun to their heads. No one is making them play basketball for a living, and no one is making them play basketball for the WNBA. If you don't think you're being treated fairly, Go do something else. After all, these women all went to college, right?
That sounds good but is your advice applicable to all situations? If you're being treated unfairly, run off to another industry and have a go at it? What if that industry is also treating you unfairly? Run off to another? Unrealistic and ignorant suggestion. Pushing to change an unfair situation is what this country partially was founded upon. Ironically, in the process, repeated much of the tyranny they were originally subjected to in Europe, here. Point remains the same ...you can run but eventually you'll find it's the same most places so running is not always an option.
@@kevinm8865 Unsurprisingly, you've ignored the key phrase. I did not say, as you misquoted me, "If you're being treated unfairly..." I said, "If you don't think you're being treated fairly..." The fact that they're whining about being treated unfairly doesn't mean they are, in fact, being treated unfairly. Given that their league has done nothing but lose money from its very inception, and is kept afloat only by subsidies from the NBA, these players are being treated far better than they should be. If they were treated fairly, they'd all be out of jobs because the WNBA would not exist. So yes, in all situations, if one "thinks" she is being treated unfairly, but in reality she's just delusional, then stop crying and go do something else for a living. If you then think that the other industry is treating you unfairly, then perhaps you might want to ask if you're the problem, or at the very least, wake up to the fact that, surprise, surprise, the world is not what you think it should be, so cope.

They are basically bankrupt right now. They are being subsidized by the NBA to exist

@@wnbazone Yeah - if you live in an alternative reality…sooooo?
I appreciate this clarification because I've never seen an interview where someone actually provided this important context. However, it's probably more complicated than bumping their revenue share from 10% to 50%. The average operating income for an NBA team is $70 million while the wnba is still not profitable. I think the NBA is still providing a $15 million dollar subsidy to help cover operating expenses like travel. That would mean the NBA would have to cover any increase in WNBA player pay. But the league is gaining traction. Hopefully, their viewership will rise to a level to make this happen for them.
After expenses paid... The WNBA does not have enough revenue to share the same percentage as the NBA. Simple economics... End of story.

Well spoken. Owners and teams wouldn't continue if they weren't profiting. How can she not be getting something for jerseys sold?

Why
Umm plainly because the WNBA doesn’t have a revenue. The league doesn’t make money. Every year the leagues cost to run is more than the money it makes. So in this concept the players would owe the league money. It’s call economics. The WNBA is funded by the profits from the NBA
