In a new original series, ATTN: explores the origin of popular American dishes that have become cultural staples in #DishHistory.
Gustavo Arellano, a renowned food critic based in Los Angeles, sat down with us at El Cholo's Famous Nacho Table to discusses the history of nachos and how the creation of the popular American snack - born out of desperation - draws parallels to the relationship between the United States and Mexico.

Iam mexican raised in the U.S.A.! I was born where the NACHOS CAME FROM!! my dad was a chef in maxican and american food. the one thing that is defenetly true frome this video is that us mexicans love to share our food! I'll never forget the first time i ate lunch with my mexican brothers. I was working construction and quite a few of them were illegal in the country but one thing that i will never forget was how at lunch time we would all get together and share our lunches!! It was beautiful!! It was like a buffet! Tacos, sandwiches, soups, soups, salsas red or green! I might sound funny but that is one thing that makes me feel proud of being mexican! To have the custome of sharing with passion something that is the base of our existence as humans! OUR SACRED FOOD!!👍👍👍👍

You gotta feel proud of being Mexican. Mexico is the country with more culture on this continent.
Great ancient civilizations developed in Mexico such as the Aztecs, (they built on a lake one of the largest cities in the world) Mayas, (they built the Temple of Kukulcán that is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World) Teotihuacanos, (the pyramids most amazing of the continent and the world, Pyramid of the Sun and the Moon) Olmecs, (one of the oldest civilizations of the continent, I think it is the second) etc.
Also the cowboy has its origins in Mexico and we have the best riders of all that are called charros and Charrería is our National Sport.
Mexican cuisine is so delicious and diverse: pozole, mole, barbacoa, carnitas, etc. Corn 🌽, chili 🌶️, avocado 🥑, chocolate 🍫, pumpkin, etc come from Mexico.
We have wonderful traditions like Día de Muertos. Each state has like its typical dance: Jarabe Tapatío, Jalisco. We have a lot of archeological sites, etc. 😉👍

Thanks for the info brother and keeping it real, some prefer to go about their day oblivious to the reality that Mexicans, Mexican Americans, Chicanos and Latinos in general face in the USA to this day. Ignoring problems never makes them go away, its uncomfortable, yes but its necessary.

Y’all went to this restaurant in LA (decently far from the border) and let this man take credit for the blending of cultures in South Texas. Like corn tamales? What about the chili queens in San Antonio that sold them in the 1800s

Yeah, obviously this was filmed in a time when thousands of immigrants weren’t crossing exactly where the Nacho was invented. In my home town of Eagle Pass we are suffering because all these people cross and we are afraid. So I do believe in closed borders.
