When kratos saw the depiction of being loved and nearly broke down, that hit super hard.

@@coolthings7724 because its always his goal, as we can see he really hate his past, even the title "Ghost of Sparta", since people feared him when they knew that title, now he become "All-Father" that people worship not because of fear, but because of love and respect.
no wonder he almost crying, he finally free from his curse as God who always bring destruction, now as God who bring peace.
@@coolthings7724 because he finally get what he always wanted since the very first game: Redemption.... remember, Kratos doesn't always wanted revenge against Olympus, at some point, he legit just wanted a redemption for what he had done in the past, which is why he served the gods of Olympus, but of course as we all know it, the Olympians not only outright refuse to give him peace, they also used him and manipulate his anger towards Ares to their own gain. But now, he finallh have his redemption, yes, he did kill yet another pantheon (specifically the Aesir), but this time he did so to save his family (including Mimir, the Dwarves and Freya), and all of the people in the 9 realms that has suffered because of Odin, for the first time, Kratos was seen not as a killing machine or a monster, but instead as a savior and a hero
Yup that's why he didn't really see it as just being loved but more like a path to redemption. You seen it in GoW 2018 and in Ragnarok, Kratos wears his guilt like a cloak. That mural made him realize he wasn't beyond redemption and forgiveness. Freya letting go of her rage and forgiving him was proof of that.
Admitting to mistakes isn't weakness, in fact it shows great character. It means you are willing to acknowledge that you are far from perfect but willing to get better.

This is by FAR the most emotional ending to a video game for me. Not because a character dies but you see a character grow and find happiness. Kratos have come a long way.

He deserves this bruh, after all the bullshit he's been through he actually got what he wanted. To be loved. To be respected. To become the god he's always wanted to be. And honestly, it's one of the best endings we will ever get in the god of war series

I love how they were able to show atreus as the god of mischief and deception in a non evil way.
He hid secrets from kratos, lying, snuck out all the time but it was for the sake of protecting kratos. He tried to decieve odin for peace.

Well the Studio did confirm that there are other Realms of Mythology. So Kratos path will continue.
And we also know that in real life the Greek Gods didn't die with Greece, the Romans revived them and gave them new names.
I think this is potentially the path the series will take.

It looks like Kratos also learn how to become human again, also to elaborate what I mean by become human again I mean by instead of anger having the feeling of acceptance and sadness, he said that his son has to venture on his own, but was happy and accepting that he's ready to face what comes next, hell I can say that Kratos come a long way from being the angry Greek demigod becoming the God of War, so now a Greek god who understands peace

Faye was such an important person in Kratos's life. Destroying his fate on the board so both Atreus and Kratos would create their own fate. Leading to Kratos becoming the God he has yearned to be since leaving Greece. Faye was the reason this was all possible, and she was exactly what Kratos needed.
this is so fucking absolutely beautiful the writing and the voice acting as well. THE PAIN you can hear in his voice when he says "Atreus Remains" damn man, just raw emotion.
A father seeing his boy grow into a good man and wishing him farewell as the son leaves, the duty of a parent is to protect and raise their kid to be able to handle their own, and Atreus is ready. But not only did Kratos see his son grow up and leave to start his own path, he saw another path open for him: the God of Peace path. After so many MANY years, he’s now loved by people and has achieved peace.
He did the best any father could and got the peace he wanted

I really want to see Kratoses ascension into All Father of Realm. Cause he’s really looking like he’ll be a worthy head of the Norse Pantheon.
Sadly as I remember it’s the last game in the Norse mythology. I do hope they don’t spam it like AC and they won’t send him to Egypt or whatever for no reason.

It's felt really hard to see Kratos cry of Joy to see the path and show him what he deserved. To be loved, worshipped, and a man of Peace. Congrats Sony for making this unbelievable game. Number 2 Fav GoW game behind my fav number 1 GoW game, God of War 3. ❤️

The ending was already pretty moving when thinking about Atreus’ arc… but when he just immediately hugged Kratos… man it was over for me… this game has made me cry more then any other game I’ve played… a story of a Father and son…

I wont lie, I cried when I saw this😢. Kratos let's his son go to finally walk his own path and sees the future of what he is to become. Loved and respected by all. A God of peace. he obtained something he was fine without having and got it anyway. seeing him cry for that was heavy. it's well deserved after all he's been through. he's endured through all of it and will now begin to reap the reward for his hard work.

No way. I wouldn’t say ruler. He’s like captain America he valued freedom and always saved those or animals who were enslaved. Once everything is done and over with. Kratos didn’t rule. He would rather return home or set down the path Faye gave him.

I have never cried with a video game as much as I cried with this ending. I lost my dad 10 years ago this month to prostate cancer and he was my best friend. We did everything together like Atreus and Kratos.
Having played every GoW. Seeing Kratos go from such a vengeful and angry person to a kind and compassionate one has been some of the greatest development I’ve ever seen. Seeing him breakdown here was just perfect. He fully redeemed himself.
I wonder if we'll play as adult Atreus completely in the next games
I really hope so, there's so much new ideas to do with Atreus' own story, new parts of the world anywhere and new friends he finds in his journey

@@parkout95 I enjoyed it, but it did feel like it dragged on....I like that he's playable, but some of his sections are so long and while its good for the story, it's no where near the level of playing as Kratos. It couldn't be, but it does set the game back just a little because of that

I think it’s more like no matter what had happened in the past or the things you have done, you can still change for the better. Kratos subverted the Norns prophecy not by killing them but by changing his nature, admitting he was wrong to Atreus and instead of seeking vengeance, seek Justice and protecting the innocents

Having played all 8 official games… holy shit Kratos crying over being loved and admired is making the tears fall. Kratos is by far my favourite video game character of all time.

This is scene really hit me and make me cry a little, it's so beautiful seeing the relationship of kratos and atreaus, and see how evolved in the game of kratos being a father scared for what might happen to his soon, to fully trust in him and wish the Best for him, kratos really loves his soon and this scene probes it.
We understand. His pain for losing his family is what drived him. He didn't want to lose his son, too. His intensity for revenge was the same for him trying to protect.
Man.. seeing the protagonist of the metal gear solid games get subtle recognition by his rival in splinter cell, seeing Geralt and the whole of characters in witcher 3 greet its fans as the player made its adventure with Geralt, and then THIS Kratos getting that praise and seeing him vulnerable like that - it feels good to grow with these characters. We are all getting old.. but at least we all grow old, as fans and players, together, and we were all brought together by these beloved characters and games and we in turn, for a few moments, found our peace and forgot division.
Thank you to these game devs for wonderful gameplay, story telling, and most of all, relatable characters!

Pay attention to the music when Atreus is talking to Angrboda before he leaves. It’s Celtic, and if you’re wondering where the next game is gonna end up, I think that’s a huge clue for his story moving forward.

Also,I think you can see Tyr at the end of the game doing yoga so we are either going to Indian myth or Celtic myth.

I’ve got to tell you I had to pause several times throughout this scene just to process the emotions
Maybe him glowing gold is the white ash of his dead family being removed from his body a sort of redemption kind of to let go of that pain of failure so early on in his life.symbolism for becoming a better being I guess.
Or it's the ash of Faye, coming back to him, being with him forever, he will hold both apon his skin. The past he can move on from, but never forget, and the golden future that Faye had set him down the path towards, and her always being there.
Redemption. Forgiveness. Change. Love. For anyone who has followed the God of War franchise from the beginning, and for those who joined anywhere along the way, we can all learn from the path forged by this character as well as the companions and enemies he’s encountered along the way. A masterpiece.
Kratos isn’t the perfect father (no such thing imo) but he is a great father much better father than Zeus. Kratos got what he deserved in the end after all his suffering and the goodbye between him and his son was so bittersweet.

Had my close calls with atreus leaving but when they shown the mural of kratos' future
It was a herculean feat of will man, this is the first game possible to ever make me move to tears (which is never an easy thing).
Braced myself for the possibility that kratos did truly die, even accepting it since he would at least find some peace.
But this, I just struggle to find the words to properly describe how I feel about it.

That kratos mended his way for both atreus' sake and his own.
He was remorseful for his past and became better than who he was and what he got in return was something the greece never gave him.
A second chance, something I (really any of us who's been with the series) imagine kratos never thought would ever happen in his life, but ragnarök proved otherwise.
Kratos deserves a happy ending
I’m thrilled for all the new fans these two games have brought. But, as someone who grew up playing these games. All of these games, ps2, psp, ps3. This ending hit like a ton of bricks. An evolution of kratos that feels real to the Kratos we had in the previous games. What an astounding achievement these two games were. If this is the end to Kratos journey, it’s a perfect ending. I’ll never forget him and Atreus journey. This ending cemented itself as one of my favorite endings to anything ever.
Man seeing Atreus look at not only his Father but also Us at the very end felt so real. I felt like a big brother watching him leave to make his own in the world...
I just realized that the depiction of Kratos being loved and worshipped was painted over the depiction of his death

The Boy became a man, and the tortured God of War became an actual war hero - now that's wrapping up character arcs neatly.

As a dad, Atreus heading out on his own into the world hit HARD. Amazing writing, acting, etc all around.

That last shot of Atreus looking back at Kratos before leaving made me tear up. It kinda feels like we raised this boi and now we’re all proud of the man he becomes.

I really like how Ragnarok made Kratos this man that is wiser but also a tired dad dealing with the fact that his son has grown up and must go on his own journey. It shows a certain sadness that I didn't think was possible for someone like Kratos. I have to clarify that he seems tired and old but NOT weak. He will still defend his family and friends with everything he has got

Next God of War game is still far from us, BUT it’s pretty clear that they’re gonna do a DLC with Ragnarok.
Since they’re mostly done with Norse mythology, they’re likely to do another mythology with the next game. Only loose end they have in Norse is with Loki’s adventure
(also purely speculation but the fact that they introduced the bear form of Atreus in the LAST section of the game makes me think that that’s a setup to a DLC story)

Just completed the game today and this scene had me crying so hard. The journey coming to a conclusion and kratos getting the admiration he deserves. So sad that the Norse saga comes to an end with this game. Really do hope that Atreus and kratos meet again hopefully in a new game. I'm not ready for this to end. Such great storytelling. I'm blown away. Still don't know who blew the mudguard horn in the previous game though 🤔🧐

They didn’t pull TLOU2 move on Kratos and make him die in Ragnarok, and the ending is so touching and fitting for Kratos to end his journey: became a god that people love and worship.

Two completely different genres and storylines. Both fit in the narrative they were telling. I hate when you people compare every single thing to the TLOU2 to justify why its bad. Joel dying made sense in the game whether you like it or not.

playing this hit extremely different by the face he tries to move a2y from the God killer then he finally does bring peace then it shows his Olympus phase which he breaks down and is about to cry is a master piece one of my favorite gow games I’ve played top 1 or 2
With this ending, I think Celtic mythology would be the best option for the next setting in the saga, with Atreus as the protagonist. Celts were already referenced in GoW 2018, along with the Egyptian and Japanese pantheons. It would make sense that Atreus reaches the British Islands first since they are closer. Besides, Vikings would visit them pretty often during their travels and conquests, and we already know that Mimir is in fact the fae Puck. I can totally see Atreus looking for more giants among the Fomorians of Celtic myths, who are depicted in a similar way to the Jotnar; as monsters and enemies of the Tuatha Dé Danann, the Celtic Gods. This would probably put Atreus against the entirety or most of the pantheon. And perhaps he could learn a few tricks from the fairies, since they could be quite the tricksters towards mortals, just like Loki. I would also like to see Atreus or Kratos face the Morrigan, the goddess of war, death and fate. I'd say she's both brutal and cunning enough to be a good rival for Kratos and/or Loki. That, and she also has the raven as her symbol, a feature she shares with Odin.
