Many of you have already correctly pointed out that Priscilla and Elvis did not meet during WWII but rather in postwar Germany. My stepfather was a teen at the time and would later in life explain to us the enormous impact Elvis' arrival to Germany had had, both for him personally and also collectively. It was almost as if Germany itself was ushered into a new cultural era by it.There was suddenly hope and perspective for a youth who had not witnessed the war but grew up faced with all its consequences. Elvis stood for not only great music and style but for a liberating new identity and a much better day. The day the news of his death broke, grown men in Germany openly cried. He meant so much to so so many.
@@MandyMalagon It was the same for my mother. She was a teenage girl when Elvis went to Germany and he and his music had a deep impact on her. I was 5 years old, when he died and i remember very clearly my mother watching television with tears in her eyes . When i asked her, what was going on, she only said: "Elvis is dead". I didn't know who he was then, but it scared me a little that this man and his death could make my mother cry.
That's worth preserving, since we only hear about Brit new wave synths or glam rockers having gone to Berlin for inspiration. The continuity of how inspirations evolved was broken.

She's a good interviewer (on this subject)... unfortunately, her "research" included neither the years of WWII nor the actual dates of Elvis' Army stint. What ARE we teaching in schools these days? Also glossed over was the fact that Priscilla was only 14 when they "met." On the plus side, I suppose, is that her questions/comments were her own and not fed through an earpiece.
Excellent, Excellent Interview. The interview brings the entire essence and importance of Elvis Presley to the new generations who really don’t understand why Elvis is such an important part of music history. Much respect to the interviewer for asking the right questions that bring to light the significance of “Elvis” the movie . Hence bringing the significance of Elvis the man.
Austin Butler's performance has been rightly praised in "Elvis" but his patience with his co-star in this interview is to be admired. Perhaps her young enthusiasm got the best of her - Olivia DeJonge needs to learn that she isn't the centre of attention. Let's hope Austin's career continues to thrive. I remember him chasing aliens in the attic. Olivia should do some research before opening her mouth - born in 1935 Elvis was 4 years old when WW2 began.
@Daniel Mahon Yep, I caught that too. She was wrong about WW2. Even though it was Covid, she could've called Priscilla to get her insights. Nobody called Billy Smith, Elvis' cousin, either. Billy was very close with Elvis and was there from the beginning till the end.
@@ElvisLass35 Yes, it's sad that no one corrected her. My body reacted to that statement also. True Elvis fans know the truth. In every interview, Baz brings up race. I'm very concerned that Elvis is being used as a tool for a political narrative.

I grew up in Elvis’s prime, saw him in concert when I was 8 yrs old - nearly 50 yrs ago. This movie and Austin Butler’s performance is the type of movie magic that very rarely happens. It gave me cold chills at times, I literally thought it was Elvis footage in many parts and I felt the same sadness I did the day Elvis died. Butler’s talent and transformation is phenomenal! He deserves to sprint away with the Oscar. Period. A must see. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
WW2 was over the yr Priscilla was born, and even the Korea War was ancient history, when Elvis and Priscilla met in 1959. The woman was talking about the history of the the 50s, 60s and 70s being displayed in the movie, yet made such an historic mistake. Many thought Elvis was drafted at the peak of his career, and at age 23 because many elders didn’t care for his style of singing and moving. When he finished his duty and returned to Memphis at age 25, he began to do more ballads.
Yeah, caught that too. An annoying faux pas. Since US history/culture is such a big part of this movie, as they all said, she should know her facts better. Also, in trailer #2, she plays Priscilla as more brazen and flirty when "Elvis" says he never met anyone like her. She says something really cheeky which the real teenage Priscilla would never say. Curious to see how she plays her more though.
Sorry but how dumb is she. My Dad was in the Korean War when he enlisted at 19 so even I know that. I thought I was hearing things. She makes this looks stupid. I'm a huge Elvis fan I was 8 years old when he died my husband and I had our first wedding dance to one of his song .....I hope I'm not disappointed in the film.
This was an excellent movie for those that lived it and those that never really knew him well. I loved it. The way they pointed out the culture and Elvis's passion for soul music was great to see and will be even better for the younger generation to see. Elvis broke barriers it's to bad he died to soon.
@CHASE Except nobody corrected the actress playing Priscilla when she wrongly said that Priscilla & Elvis met during WW2. Sounds like she didn't do her homework...and never bothered to reach out to Priscilla for insight on the person that she's portraying. That's sad!
Middle of ww2 when they met ? Baz nearly had a canary at that moment . Even by the trailer it's obvious this is gonna be a really good movie . Butler is gonna win honours and recognition for his potrayal of Elvis.
I loved this interview because of the questions of the interviewer as well. But didn’t it feel sometimes that Olivia was stepping a little too much on Austin’s answers? I mean, I know that men do that to women all the time. But I felt like wanting to hear more from Austin and less from her (things that were directed at him)
I mean obviously not in a respectful way, I could tell she’s excited. ..but he was not done with his statement and she would step in. Should have paced herself.
I think her input helped Austin. I'm a big admirer of Austin but he can be quite repetitive in these interviews. Olivia casual chit chat with him actually made him come across better and made this the best Elvis movie interview yet
i could be completely wrong but she reminds me of friends of mine that also interrupt a lot but it's never for the sake of it/for attention, its always to show they're really listening and to add on things and relate which i really appreciate, you can tell she loves this entire experience and the cast so much too and this came across to me as just her way of expressing it and supporting them, plus most things she chimed in with was genuine praise of the others and i just found it all quite sweet
Olivia DeJonge said that Priscilla met Elvis "in the middle of World War Two." Well, WW2 was over in 1946. Priscilla met Elvis in the mid-fifties.What does this say about the supposed amount of research she did for the movie?
It’s ok. She will never make that comment again I’ll bet! She is young not stupid. My dad was stationed in Germany. I was 3. The women would line up and watch Elvis go to visit Priscilla. That’s what my mom said. They swooned.
I’m amazed at her lack of basic general knowledge regarding modern world history Our education system teaches WWII, if you have a brain you do remember this! I hope Baz corrected her later on, before she goes off on another inaccurate tangent during more interviews. It’s damaging to the movie, IMO.
I like Austin. He has such an incredible respect for Elvis. As does Baz. I remember Jonathan Reese Myers played Elvis some years back. He made some comments that were not particularly kind.
What comments did Jonathan make that weren’t kind? I loved johnathan’s portrayal however I feel like it was more of a caricature.. and he never sang live.
The end of the interview when Baz said there is a scene that wasn't used of Austin (Elvis) singing to Priscilla 'I will always love you', in the car!! OMG, I wish they kept that. Priscilla told Dolly Parton that Elvis sang her that song, & that was Baz's easter egg to Dolly Parton. Baz also says he has a 4 hour version of the movie!! I'd love for him to release that one day.
I just watched this movie a few hours ago and I cried like a baby. Such a beautiful movie. Colonel Parker must be rotting in hell for what he did. Just like many others I have never watched so many interviews about a movie before. I believe I will watch them all eventually. Baz well done thank you for bringing the King's story in this way that has never been told before. Austin is amazing, the wardrobe team, the other actors and team well done.
Oh Olivia what a stuff up, the Second World War was in the 1940s he was drafted in 1958/59. For an Australian actress you seriously need to do your research. I’m Australian and can’t believe you don’t know about the war because we were in it too. That’s just ignorance. She sure found her voice and just about took over the interview.
Elvis is called the King of Rock and Roll due to the fact he was the first to add drums with the guitar as opposed to the stand up bass like they did in Country Music.
During WWII Elvis was between 4 and 10 years old. Unbelievable to make such a mistake after having played such a major role. She’s going to get a lot of stick with that.
when austin talks about filming the 68 special and all his fears it got me because elvis had the same fear when he actually did it , am i doing the right thing or not. he did and so are you thanks!
~Elvis is King of Rock....& I am going to see this movie of the number one entertainer of all times. ~Hope to see more movies of the other talented people...like Michael Jackson & so many more...
Olivia seems to enjoy being the center of attention, this bothered me. Consistently interrupting during key moments of thoughtful answers from the gentleman. I wish I could have listened to their complete answers without being cut off.
Good interview. It would have been even better if Olivia DeJonge could have reigned in her tongue and stopped interrupting Austin and Baz. That was driving me nuts. Shut your mouth til you're asked a direct question! 🙄
One correction needs to be noted: Ms DeJonge misspoke Elvis and Priscilla met during WW2. That is incorrect, Elvis and Priscilla met in 1958. WW2 ended 13 years previous in 1945. Even the Korean War which was 1951-'53 was over for five years. It wasn't war-time when Elvis was in military, nor subsequently when Elvis and his ex met. Not casting shade on Ms DeJonge, just keeping the Elvis history accurate.
What they have showed of this actor portrayed Elvis Elvis was a lot more beautiful and he did not move the way this actor portrayed him I was 11 in 1957 and he did not move like this guy he had a natural rhythm I won't be watching the movie
The Ed Sullivan Show was part of my family's regular Sunday night viewing routine. I remember watching all three of Elvis' appearances, but it's his first (for obvious reasons) that is most heavily embedded in all our memories. I might even have seen his earlier appearance on the Dorsey Brothers Show because my grandma was a fan and got me loving the Big Band sound as well. But Elvis didn't "dance" on that show. Sullivan would not allow Elvis to be televised from the waist down, at least on his first appearance. All this leads me to wonder if Austin wore boxer shorts during his onstage singing performances, as they were the popular underwear at age 22 in the 1950's. If Elvis wore boxers beneath lightweight, loose-fitting trousers (see his pink/black suit) during his notorious "hip gyrations," as they were often called in the press, might be why one writer commented, "Presley's singing is not sexual, it's pornographic."
OLIVIA, I don't know what bothers me more, the fact that you keep interrupting everyone else or the fact that you are stating incorrect information that you know nothing about, including WW 2 and when Elvis and Priscilla met. You actually talked more than everyone else combined, including the interviewer.
The three of them had probably not seen each other for a year. Austin has said before that it was a year after the movie wrapped before he was back on the gold coast getting ready for the premieres. He was in London for a year doing Masters of the Air. But they seem so happy here. However, I dont' think Cannes had happened yet, had it? They would have mentioned the 12 minute standing ovation.
This actress is pretty but i was expecting someone Priscilla level beautiful to play her. I didn't saw the movie yet, maybe i will change my mind later.
I saw the movie and i was thinking the same.... Priscilla was way more beautiful; they should've found someone in her level... I saw Priscilla being interviewed in her 40s, and she was still more beautiful than this girl... But this girl's performance was very good...
Bless her surrounded by the star n her director tryin to pick her moments to talk not realising she’s a third of the interview that said what a polite girl and Austin is a great actor n seems like a heart on his sleeve guy I’m so looking forward to seeing this n baz is pne of the greatest directors this is gun win Oscars for Austin Tom hanks and baz I can see a sweep by the movie if it dosent it’s a scandal

I'm a huge Elvis fan I was 8 years old when he died my husband and I had our first wedding dance to one of his song .....I hope I'm not disappointed in the film.
At my husband's funeral ⚱️ 2 years ago, there was no other music but Elvis gospel songs. I expect the same at my funeral ⚱️ 👑🍀 🎶🎵
@@sheilaseeber2007 ....You know I thought the same when my time come...
A great interviewer, she nailed it, she is so relaxed. i would’ve been nervous if it was me.
This was an excellent movie for those that lived it and those that never really knew him well. I loved it. The way they pointed out the culture and Elvis's passion for soul music was great to see and will be even better for the younger generation to see. Elvis broke barriers it's to bad he died to soon.
Excellent interviewer....She brought out an energy in them that few attained....good job!!!
Kudos to Austin Butler who obviously studied and put a lot of hard work into his character.
He put in two years of research...
Great interview, great questions
:)
Awesome interview!
I loved this interview because of the questions of the interviewer as well. But didn’t it feel sometimes that Olivia was stepping a little too much on Austin’s answers? I mean, I know that men do that to women all the time. But I felt like wanting to hear more from Austin and less from her (things that were directed at him)
Thought the same.
@@ros.an. she's cute and sweet and casual in a good way. I liked to hear her speak.
Olivia DeJonge said that Priscilla met Elvis "in the middle of World War Two." Well, WW2 was over in 1946. Priscilla met Elvis in the mid-fifties.What does this say about the supposed amount of research she did for the movie?
Correction: World War Two ended in 1945.
Elvis met Priscilla in 1959.
It was the middle of world war 2 🤣🤣 did she do that little research to find out he was drafted and it was 1958/1959 🙄
Wtf??
Her research sucks it was peacetime not war 🤣
WW 2 ended the year Priscilla was born lol
It’s ok. She will never make that comment again I’ll bet! She is young not stupid. My dad was stationed in Germany. I was 3. The women would line up and watch Elvis go to visit Priscilla. That’s what my mom said. They swooned.
@@bkh5648 I bet 😀
I think Austin has retained some of the Elvis speaking voice. That's not a criticism.
No . That’s his voice. Lol
@@frenchtoast7742 Well, it is now ;) .
@@JHargis68 NO Seriously that's his voice!!!! That's exactly how he speaks for years I've seen his work and interviews
@@tonyarenee531 Ok I believe you. Just thought he might have had some residual from his vocal training for the film :).
People talk about his voice. Remember he is getting older so his voice will naturally change.
My only comment ....it was not WWII when priscilla met elvis....oh dear
I’m amazed at her lack of basic general knowledge regarding modern world history Our education system teaches WWII, if you have a brain you do remember this! I hope Baz corrected her later on, before she goes off on another inaccurate tangent during more interviews. It’s damaging to the movie, IMO.
It was the cold war with russia which we are in again in 2022. Go figure. full horrible circle.
The war was over. She is only young I'll let her off
Yeah, that jarred my ear.
Yes it was. He met her in Germany while he was stationed in the Army
Austin Butler reminds me of Brad Pit lol..facial and the tone of his voice
You are not alone in thinking that😁I see a young Brad Pitt every time Austin is talking😊
Me too!! He looks and sounds just like him.
I like Austin. He has such an incredible respect for Elvis. As does Baz.
I remember Jonathan Reese Myers played Elvis some years back. He made some comments that were not particularly kind.
gross. they're trying to make money. Let him RIP, I'd imagine Elvis would be horrified overr this shit.
What comments did Jonathan make that weren’t kind? I loved johnathan’s portrayal however I feel like it was more of a caricature.. and he never sang live.
@@christopherone1 no one is forcing you to watch it. So don't.
@@helenkapetis8869 get lost, OMG. REPORTING YOU!
@@christopherone1 get lost Karen. Blocking YOU.
This interviewer is excellent at her craft! Cannot wait to see more from her.
great interview, Jacqueline
Thank you.
The young lady said it was in the middle of ww2 when Elvis and Priscilla met in Germany. Lol
Great interview! Congratulations
Someone give the girl a history ook they met over a decade after WW2 😂
Priscilla apparently met Elvis and started a romance when he was six years old. Thanks for that little tidbit, Olivia! I had not heard that before :)
How adorable is Austin…love him
Olivia was so yappy and not letting Austin finish his story. And the WWII comment? My goodness! It was an excellent film though!
The middle of WW2? Ma’am. You need a tad of a history lesson. Other than that I love the cast so far and I’m super excited for this movie!!
Such a great interviewer! Great questions, articulate! Got the cast thinking!
Great interview! She really asks poignant questions and is inclusive of everyone.
Elvis is called the King of Rock and Roll due to the fact he was the first to add drums with the guitar as opposed to the stand up bass like they did in Country Music.
bro that Olivia girl needs to let the rest speak, she's talked over them the entire time 🙄
During WWII Elvis was between 4 and 10 years old. Unbelievable to make such a mistake after having played such a major role. She’s going to get a lot of stick with that.
I can understand her thinking that when she first got cast but as soon as filming began, she would surely have known it was years after WWII ended.
I JUST SAW IT .WOW OSCAR FOR BAZ AND AUSTIN. I LOVED IT.GONNA SEE IT AGAIN.
As a little girl I would go to the Saturday matinee to drool over Elvis. He was beautiful but the musicals spoilt it
when austin talks about filming the 68 special and all his fears it got me because elvis had the same fear when he actually did it , am i doing the right thing or not. he did and so are you thanks!
elvis was the super hero ...
he was and still is the King!!!
Elvis & Priscilla did meet in Germany but 14 years after WW2, he was 10 when the war ended she 2 weeks old on VE Day!
"IT WAS THE MIDDLE OF WWII"??? What the???
Jack ~'()'~
~Elvis is King of Rock....& I am going to see this movie of the number one entertainer of all times.
~Hope to see more movies of the other talented people...like Michael Jackson & so many more...
Olivia seems to enjoy being the center of attention, this bothered me. Consistently interrupting during key moments of thoughtful answers from the gentleman. I wish I could have listened to their complete answers without being cut off.
Olivia deInterrupt .... geez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let the others answer without you cutting in!
Oscar time for all of them! austin became Elvis! His death was a terrible loss to all of us! he was a man we could look up to - both men and women!
Slight mistake in the young lady < who played Pricilla ... she said .. It was the middle of ww2 when they met....
Wonderful interview! Wonderful interviewer!
I did not think of her as a good interviewer... Who is she?
Man I hope this generation loves Elvis through this movie, come on Elvis pull them inn for the ride. T.C.B.
Good interview. It would have been even better if Olivia DeJonge could have reigned in her tongue and stopped interrupting Austin and Baz. That was driving me nuts. Shut your mouth til you're asked a direct question! 🙄
4:54 "it was the middle of WW2"... No it wasn't, it was the 1950s
I’m sorry but the fact that the supporting actress keeps interrupting To share her take on a question he’s answering is bothering me…
Elvis and Priscilla didn't meet "in the middle of World War II" - WWII ended in 1945, Elvis would have been 10 years old then.
Met in 1959
My gosh, it was 15 years AFTER WWII. So sad how misinformed a person can be who says she did "research".
Elvis Presley ❤️🎸🤘⚡
What they have showed of this actor portrayed Elvis Elvis was a lot more beautiful and he did not move the way this actor portrayed him I was 11 in 1957 and he did not move like this guy he had a natural rhythm I won't be watching the movie
WWll? Really?.how could she have done any homework and not know that Elvis was not in WWll?
This movie was surprisingly very very good. I’m not sure what I expected but was so afraid it would feel like a tv knock off.
Loved it!
Olivia can’t seem to stop from stepping on the other two toes when they are speaking, and she didn’t make a very good Priscilla either.
This interviewer was excellent!
What an excellent intelligent interviewer!
Awesome interview. Can't wait to see this movie
Olivia, be 😶. Let the others talk.
WWII...how much research did Olivia do?
did she say Elvis was in Germany during the second world war OMG he was there 1958-1960, I am really looking forward to seeing the movie
I hope austin wins best actor oscar he deserves it! He is phenomenal in this movie so close to the real king!.
Olivia is stunning, charismatic, and intelligent--perfect for the part!!
