- This was a pretty bad mud spot. In today's video we will get it all fixed
back up so track is in fairly good shape and safer for trains to run on.

Engine noise is the background music we're here for.
Truth
It is like those electric tools review videos where you go to see and hear how it is working, and they put this bad music, so you cannot hear what is happening.

Where abouts in Metric-America do you live? I've extended relations and friends who are more like family than blood relations in the Niagara Region. All throughout the Golden Horseshoe, actually.

No music Dave, the machinery and your calm, steady & enthusiastic voice are music to our ears. Looks like the hillside runoff without additional drainage keeps everything under the ballast wet & the rock just gets pushed down deeper & deeper while the mud rises. A little coal dust can turn a lotta mud all black.

Hi Dave,
Always enjoy you videos. (Not a fan of the music when talking.)
When I started in the railways over here in Victoria, Australia we used Electromatic Tampers, these were replaced with Plasser Tampers, both were difficult to maintain and needed a high level of mechanical skill.
Eventually we changed to the 6700s, they were much cheaper to purchase but also much easier and to use and maintain.
I have retired now but never thought of using the switch function on the 6700 to push muddy ballast out of the tie end cribs.
Good work. Cheers Pete.

Hello Dave, another great and informative video as always. I been going through your playlists and watching videos. I was admitted to the hospital Thursday night around 10pm. I’m having surgery in the morning possibly having my 4th toe amputated and bone removed due to osteomyelitis. Looking at 4 weeks of IV antibiotics once I leave here. On the upside I get to watch all these great railroad videos. Take care and happy rails.
Oh wow, that doesn't sound good Donnie. Hoping things work out for
you and please keep me informed how you are doing, we will be
praying for you my friend.
@@ccrx6700 thanks for the prayers surgery was Sunday and it went well. I’m waiting for my pathology results to find out if I have to have IV antibiotics at home. Should know something tomorrow or Thursday. I have a 1 inch by 1 inch and 2 inches deep open hole on the bottom of my foot that has too heal from inside out. My 4th toe was amputated and cut to my ankle about 20 stitches. But I’m in good spirits. God is good to me and has blessed me. Thanks again for the prayers
Blessings to you and your family

Hi Dave! Great job on dealing with the mud! Tough battle, especially this time of the year.
Per your request, on the music, it it ok, just a wee bit loud as it wants to drown out your voice when you're talking. If you could soften the volume up by about half so you could be clearly heard, it would be better. Hope this helps. Good luck, sir!
And greetings from Southern Michigan!

Interesting process and explanation. No the music is a fail for me. Thanks in advance. How long will it stay in profile after the rehab?
Appreciate your taking the time to write in and share your thoughts on the music Greg. How long it will stay is anyone's guess, depends on the amount of train traffic it sees plus the amount of rain we get. Thank you for watching the fixing a bad mud spot in the track my friend.
I bet you and the train crews feel great relief, no longer being paranoid running loads over sketchy track. =) For the music, if I may suggest, reduce the volume of the overlay - maybe by a third or half, as a first guess. Morning Dave that’s a good size mud spot ! We have a couple of those also once we get around to undercutting I will post a video. We just purchased a new machine a Huddig comes with alot of track attachments . Operators are getting trained on how to use.😳
That would be cool to watch the under cutting Ken. We've had Hulcher
under cutter in here a few times in the past. We have looked into
one of those Huddig or a similar machine and it does have a lot
of attachments, but they are not willing to spend the money right
now on one. Thank you for watching the fixing a bad mud spot in the track my friend.
@@ccrx6700 yes 1 million is what they spent on her . Yes we also use Hulcher out here in California
I really enjoy your videos. it's takes a lot to keep a coal train going

Would love to see an undercutting operation on your track. I get the cost considerations why it may not be possible, but would love to see it done, some good solid revitalization.
For sure on that TheDrew. We need a lot of under cutting done here!
Big problem is the amount of time it takes to do it and put the track
back in service. They like to run trains here and don't give me a whole
lot of down track time. Appreciate your taking the time to write in and for watching the fixing a bad mud spot in the track my friend.
@@ccrx6700 I've noticed your down time seems quite short, compressed my boss would call it. If coal's not flowing, money's not making which I totally get. :-) Been watching for a while now, love the videos, even the non-track ones like the recent repair to one of the engines.

Imagine they did by hand at one time, interesting video Dave and stay safe. Here in California the BNSF uses pink ballast in the desert areas but some areas have grey.
Pink ballast just doesn't sound railroady Mike.....:-) I'm used to all my
new white ballast turning black from the coal spillage. Appreciate your taking the time to write in and for watching the fixing a bad mud spot in the track my friend.

Did I mess up here Bruce....:-) Appreciate your taking the time to write in and for watching the fixing a bad mud spot in the track my friend.
Always a pleasure to hear from a fellow railroader.
It's a slow and steady process and the result is very good :) That mud is just nasty stuff :) We can't have sliding track otherwise there might be a derailment. Excellent explanation! I going to check out #3 limestone and see what makes it good for ballast :)
Sliding track is not good for sure Brian. Thank you for the nice comment and for taking the time to watch my friend. #3 makes for
good ballast because of it's size. It locks in to the ties well and also
is good for drainage.
I see how a little music could help drow out the constant din of the Tamper working. Knowing you have the track blocked out for the day ,you dont worry about contact with Train operations. Hope you get a undercutter . Safe Railroading in days ahead..
Appreciate your taking the time to write in Thomas and no worries about the train that day, the loco was hauling me ballast. I hope we get an under cutter too, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for one....:-) Thank you for watching the fixing a bad mud spot in the track my friend.

I’d rather hear you sing than the music. Rumor has it you have a magical singing voice.
If that rumor was true I'd be on the Grand Ole Opry instead of
the railroad CC.....:-) Very much appreciate your taking the time to write in and also to check out the fixing a mud spot video my friend.
Good clean up 🧹 thumbs up 👍

Looks like a lot.of work to keep that rail nice. Very interesting.
Appreciate your taking the time to write in Kathie. Yes it is a lot of work, but you've got to do what you got to do in order to keep the train safely running here. Glad you enjoyed and thank you for watching the fixing a bad mud spot in the track my friend.
Hey Dave. First time commenting. Love the videos. Both channels. Had a hard time hearing you over the music. Look forward to more videos!
Very glad you are enjoying the videos Dennis, thank you so much
for saying so. Hope you will continue to enjoy. Appreciate your
sharing those thoughts on the music, most folks are saying no
to the music and/or it was too loud. Thank you also for watching the fixing a bad mud spot in the track my friend.
Was quiet visible in that section, you've done another great job , I'm sure you look sometimes and wish you could cut a section out excavate it lay drainage and have a brand new section you can just forget about for 10 years lol
We have done that in the past several places Tim. Bulldozed everything
out, lay down road fabric and start over again with all new ballast,
it works like a charm. Just need a lot of down track time to do it
along with a lot of money and help. Appreciate your taking the time to write in and for watching the fixing a bad mud spot in the track my friend.
Excellent bit of remedial work Dave and your tamper is serving you well. That spot looked badly contaminated and is a lot better now. Not keen on the music, can’t hear what you are saying which is more important. Thank you

Once did contract work repairing track maintenance rigs for U. Pacific, NorCali. Interesting unique machines.
Yes they are, amazing what some of these RR machines can do
and sometimes pretty frustrating when they break down as you
probably well know Mrbfgray. Very much appreciate your taking the time to write in and also for checking out the fixing a bad mud spot video my friend.
