Today, we embark on an enlightening journey to unravel the mysteries of pleurisy - a condition affecting the delicate lining around your lungs. From its symptoms to underlying causes, we'll delve into the key information you need to comprehend this sometimes-painful respiratory issue. Let's breathe in the knowledge and understand pleurisy inside out.
    Understanding Pleurisy:
    1. What is Pleurisy?
Pleurisy, or pleuritis, is the inflammation of the pleura, the thin membranes that line the chest and surround the lungs. When these membranes become inflamed, they can cause pain and discomfort, especially during breathing.
    2. Common Symptoms:
Recognizing the signs of pleurisy is crucial. Sharp chest pain, particularly during inhalation or coughing, is a hallmark symptom. Shortness of breath, cough, and fever may also accompany pleurisy. Understanding these symptoms is vital for seeking prompt medical attention.
    Exploring the Causes:
    3. Infections:
Viral or bacterial infections are primary culprits. Infections like pneumonia or viral respiratory infections can lead to pleurisy. The inflammation often occurs as a result of the body's immune response to combat the infection.
    4. Autoimmune Disorders:
Autoimmune conditions can trigger pleurisy. Diseases like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis may cause the immune system to mistakenly attack the pleura, leading to inflammation.
    5. Pulmonary Embolism:
A blood clot in the lungs can also cause pleurisy. This condition, known as pulmonary embolism, can result in inflammation and chest pain.
    6. Injury or Trauma:
Physical injury to the chest can be a direct cause. Whether it's a rib fracture or blunt trauma, any damage to the chest area can lead to inflammation of the pleura.
    Key Information:
    7. Diagnosis and Treatment:
Diagnosing pleurisy often involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, and imaging tests. Treatment depends on the underlying cause but may include pain management, anti-inflammatory medications, or addressing the root issue such as antibiotics for infections.
    8. Seeking Medical Attention:
Prompt medical attention is crucial when experiencing symptoms. While pleurisy can be mild and resolve on its own, it may also indicate a more serious underlying condition. Seeking a healthcare professional's guidance ensures proper diagnosis and treatment.
    Conclusion:
In conclusion, understanding pleurisy involves recognizing its symptoms, exploring potential causes, and being aware of key information for diagnosis and treatment. If you or someone you know experiences persistent chest pain, difficulty breathing, or related symptoms, don't hesitate to consult a healthcare professional.

I was just diagnosed with this at urgent care. I’m very thankful I didn’t go to the ER. I paid $50 after my insurance they did an EKG I go and pick up my prescription tomorrow.

@Apartmentviews-324 I'm glad you got a diagnosis and are managing the situation with urgent care rather than the ER. It sounds like you're taking the right steps with an EKG and getting your prescription. Follow your doctor's instructions and make sure to ask any questions about your treatment plan. Wishing you a smooth recovery and good health!

Im 56 pretty good health, I just found it had this,
Mine started out with shortness of breath and accelerated heart rate 85-92 bpm for a few days then my breast plate felt bruised and it hurt to take deep breaths, the pain moved to right lower rib cage and radiates to my traps,my wife’s cousin is RN when my wife told her i was having pain in the middle to the lower right of my chest and intense pain in my traps! She said it sounded like Pleurisy and suggested i go get seen especially since i was having chest pain.
My primary also said it was pleurisy but decided to run EKG, protocol i guess with chest pain. He did not like reading on EKG called the cardiologist who sent me to ER! After being admitted to run several heart test and not finding any issues with heart i was finally released the day after to start my steroid treatment for pleurisy !

Is this pain also felt at the back? I have it in right side of chest and back.

    • @MedicalCentric
      @MedicalCentric  หลายเดือนก่อน

@nupuruils Yes, pain from certain conditions can be felt in both the chest and back. For example, issues like heart problems, gastrointestinal issues (like acid reflux or ulcers), or even muscle strain can cause pain that radiates to the back. If you’re experiencing persistent or severe pain, especially if it's accompanied by other symptoms like shortness of breath, nausea, or sweating, it’s important to seek medical attention promptly to rule out any serious conditions and get appropriate care.
