How interesting.... even the fact that you saw the potential in that mess. I will be watching out for the next episode to see how the painting progresses
This was a lightbulb video for me. You always hear artists say don't t think when it comes to starting an abstarct painting but i struggle with what to do. This gives me an idea to plan my vision before and and then just go with it. Love that!
Love this concept. So simple, why did I never think of this before? Now the fall leaves on the ground, or a pathway full of shadows, or whatever can be photographed and turned into inspiration pieces. Love the view finder tool idea too.
Thank you so much. After 50 years of life happening around me I was finally able to get back to painting. Abstract always interested me, but how to begin, how to get inspired was my beast of burden. I don't know which is the next video on transferring this idea to canvas. Thank you
Try this: Go to your local hardware store and buy a small sheet of galvanized steel. (You could also use a galvanized metal bucket or tub, but the flat sheet is easier to work with.) Next, you'll want a 10 power printer's magnifying glass with a base plate. The base has an opening that works just like your viewfinders. Examine the crystalline structure of the zinc on the metal with the magnifying glass, looking through the base. There is an almost infinite variety of patterns in the zinc that often resembles snow flake crystals. By moving the base plate/view finder of the glass around, you're sure to find a pattern that inspires you.
I’ve studied abstract first awhile and this concept is totally new and exciting to me! I may be able to put all the messes in my home to good use as art inspiration now! It’s also gives me the thought of dropping paper scraps and see how they land on the floor to use this same concept.
So helpful to watch you go through your thought process. I do struggle with compsotion in abstracts, so this was really helpful. Thank you for sharing your insights and process of working through a new composition.
I’m really hoping to see you paint this once it’s transferred to the canvas. That way would take me through the entire thought process. Thank you for sharing.
Thankyou Gwen for explaining such a lot of principles of abstract art that I've nit understood before, I learnt from just watching. I've subscribed and look forward to painting along with you in a future video.
Hi Gwen, I've just found you and I'm so glad. I have been wanting to paint abstract for some time, but although I have learned much from online courses, TH-cam tutorials, etc., I always come unstuck when it comes to WHAT to paint without it ending up as something representational - a landscape, say. Your video has been such an eye-opener! I feel a huge blockage has been removed and my creative juices can start flowing again. I have started to look at things differently (who knew a painting could come out of a mess your dog made with toilet paper??!!) so a big THANK YOU.🙏 I can't wait to get going. ❤
Just found your channel, and been having a look at your titles of other videos and they are great! They sound so helpful for newbies like me, really useful topics, answers to loadsa questions -perfect! New subbie! Thank U Gwen!😊
Very interesting and useful. Thanks for sharing this with us. My question would be about the centre of interest. I would tend to see it elsewhere than you, that is, the forms that are below what you see as the centre of interest. Is this just a matter of personal perspective?
Daniel....the center of interest can be anywhere so you are correct. I actually saw it in several places but chose the one in the video. We will see how it comes out. Thanks for watching the video and for your comment and question.

I love listening to your thought process and coming up with a good design.
This is so inspiring. Can’t wait to get back to my easel. Thank you Gwen!❤

This abstraction is super useful.
Puppy is an artist 🌷
So interested in your process. I’m changing my way of doing art and am drawn to your teaching style. Thank you❤

Love this, Gwen. As usual, you are turning lemons into lemonade. Give that pup a squeeze from me.♥
Lynn....he gets loads of hugs and squeezes but he would love to get one from you in person.....planting a thought.
So useful. Thanks for sharing your process.
It’s really wonderful ,the development of composition and a technique..Thanks for sharing..

I relate to everything you said here!
Why oh why didn’t I come across your video sooner in my frustrated unsuccessful searches and attempts?❤🎉
Thank you. I stopped painting and would like to get back to it.

Great video. What are your thoughts on starting with an armature as the foundation for an abstract painting?
Interesting ideas
how to create a masterpiece from a desaster. I love the fact that you used a photo of what the dog did

This is very cool and informative. Did you make a second video on how you transferred it to the canvas or paper?
Yes, I did....
Thank you! I am curious about how you transfer this image to a painting on paper or canvas.
I just draw it on with either paint, pencil or charcoal. The image doesn't have to be perfect ....
Very useful. Please could you share the final painting?
I want to watch the next video that shows transferring your design and painting but it doesn’t come up and I can’t find it. Help!
What is the puppy"s name? What is the breed/or mix? Perfect day. for a new puppy!
It looks confusing, but narrowing it down to a small square takes some of that away
In your square I see alittle face 2 eyes and a mouth
