The rules changes were a constant point of contention in our tabletop game days, so we just developed our own house rules and ignored the books almost completely. We also decided to use a GM as referee in all disputes, and said no game could be played without an independent third party on scene to be the GM.
@@bruced648 At least that think here, as we allowed all kinds of strange things to creep into the game over the years. Since I started teaching the kids to play I have massively thinned it down and limited what they use in game, til they know more.
@Dang_Near_Fed_Up 40 years of playing this game, I've reduced the 'filler' rules to a bare minimum. playing 'rules as written' a typical 4v4 game is about an hour. for me, maybe 20 minutes. however, I've also made vehicles and Aerospace more playable and slightly more durable. I've also simplified the 2nd ed Mechwarrior rpg rules to an index card character sheet. character creation is less than 5 min and requires 6 dice rolls. when you get past the technical side of the game, you can really appreciate the tactical side.

Great video guys. Thanks! Here's a good claim for you: At one time there wasn't a maximum skill level of 0. Several mechwarriors were originally listed with negative skill levels ( such as -1/0 ) but their skills were officially retconned after the 0/0 skill cap was introduced. You might have to go back to MW 1st edition time period for that.
I have a few items actually still left over from my days spent playing during my youth - a couple rulebooks from Game Towne of Old Town and a TRO 3055 from the House of Armand in Oceanside. The latter item, believe it or not, was given to me while out filming Season 4. The player offered it to me in a box of other things, and when I saw the price tag reading "House of Armand", I couldn't believe my eyes. The House of Armand was my childhood comic book store in Southern California. I still had the phone number memorized, which was printed on the tag along with the store name. So while the first two things were bought by me during my younger years, the other came to me from my childhood store by way of Yuba City CA. I've featured the first 2 books on this show. The copy of Battledroids I got in an ebay bid war, late 20-teens. I paid $158 for it. I wanna say 2016? It was complete. There's a video of it here on this channel lol. I have lots of things like this, but even if it's stuff I acquired after I was well into my 30s, they're still items that are filled with memories for me. Many, many days spent playing as many games as we could fit into our lives. So I suppose in a way I do. It's this thing that kind of just connects that part of my life to this one.
It might just be in that section, but I don't think so. I am pretty sure I check for that kind of thing at the time. By the time I return to the actual footage it's usually like a week later lol.
So what you're saying is the name "Battle Droids" is still up for the taking. I've been thinking about using AI to turn on my Homebrew into a legitimate alternative Battletech/Mech Warrior universe product. I want to go back to the grim dark roots with some minor edits to the rules.
He was. He's somewhere up in heaven now, or wherever it is you go, laughing at me. When I see him again, I am going to have to own up to this and we are probably going to laugh together then.

Interesting we've always played attacker rolls crits since I started in 89

Well, Disney might take issue with the word "droid" 😂
@@BattleBound Yeah, but the walls in the Disney Castle are cracking. 😎 I just got to find that prior art reference.
Defender rolls crits being doing it this way for awhile
Defender has the sheets, it just makes it go a lot faster and a lot easier.
Well done guys!!!
Thanks for watching!
My guess would have been maximum tech just based on the name.
I pity the fool who collects House Liao stuff.....
😂😂😂
