So helpful! I've been trying to get my head around how to describe for a research methods subject and the differences out there in the definitions of ontology and epistemology are blindingly frustrating! Your description made it so clear and concise with metaphors that I understand and have embodied as a photographic artist and counsellor and now baby researcher!

I'm so pleased you found the video helpful. Ontology and epistemology are often made way more complex than they need to be, I get super annoyed by it too! Welcome to my channel!

Sure, here is the revised version of your text:
My dissertation is about mise en page from the standpoint of reading. But my field is quite unique. As part of the Fine Arts Faculty, our doctoral program follows the same rules that artist-researchers follow, which means relying on their own instincts. Having no rules can be a blessing for someone working on their art discourse. However, for me, as a graphic designer who wants to delve into what reading means-not just to graphic design, but to our whole culture-and from there start thinking about how we should approach the needs of transferring information from human to human and machine to human, it's been very confusing. I'm in the final stages of my research, but your videos have been really helpful in organizing my work and thoughts. Thank you so much for all this information.

Hi! Thanks for all the videos….so helpful! I am currently working on my MSc Dissertation which is focused on late life career transitions in older workers and my sample consists of long serving teachers aged 45+ who have left teaching to change to an encore career. I am looking at how they experience this transition, the barriers and facilitators to late life career transition and how career adaptability features are reflected in their experiences. Your videos on B&C’s thematic analysis and on paradigm and reflexivity have been really helpful!

Just to add….i left teaching two years ago, after 20+ years in the field, to do my MSc in Org Psych and then possibly enter a new career, aged 50+….so reflexivity is crucial for my research.

Thank you so much for your kind words-I'm glad to hear that the videos have been helpful for your dissertation work. Your research on late-life career transitions is both timely and significant, especially given your own experiences with a similar transition. It’s wonderful that you’re applying thematic analysis to explore the barriers, facilitators, and career adaptability in this context-those are crucial aspects to understand.
Given your own career transition, reflexivity will indeed be essential in your research, helping you navigate your dual role as both a researcher and someone who shares experiences with your participants. Your unique perspective can add depth and authenticity to your study. Best of luck with your MSc and your journey into a new career-I’m sure your research will make a valuable contribution!

Really helpful, than you. I'm starting a DNurs in September. Research epistemology and ontology were badly taught in an MSc I did not retain much of it.

I’m so glad you found the video helpful, Matthew! It’s completely understandable that concepts like epistemology and ontology can be tricky, especially if they weren’t well-explained before. Starting your DNurs in September is an exciting step, and I’m sure you’ll get a stronger grasp on these foundational ideas as you move forward. If you have any more questions or need further clarification along the way, feel free to reach out. Wishing you all the best in your studies!
