Really enjoyed your wrap up Greg. I’ve only read a couple of yours, so I need to track some of them down 😊

I enjoyed the video. The best SF short stories of the twentieth century would be my choice for your next project.

Thanks. Your list is spot-on, and want to add some more recent ones. Would recommend any from the two volumes of stories by Edward P. Jones, either Lost in the City or All Aunt Hagar's Children. Among the latter "Tapestry", "A Rich Man," and "Bad Neighbors." Also the wild Southerner Barry Hannah is a gold mine of favorites, with "Get Some Young" my favorite. Robert Louis Strevenson was great with short stories. Jeckyll and Hyde if you can pretend you don't know the story when you read it. So many possibilities!

@@bbbartolo I have a few collections of Berry Hannah. Airships and Bats Out of Hell. He was a good writer. RLS would definitely be on the list if I get around to 19th century stories.

Your readers may be interested in selections from ALL Barry Hannah story editions called "Long, Last, Happy." remaindered some places and very good buy as an ebook. Forgot to mention short stories by Tillie Olsen (Tell Me a Riddle has "I Stand Here Ironing")-Hemingway was an admirer-also Gilbert Sorrentino (Little Casino), Italo Calvino too. So many memorable ones...Tony Cade Bambara for capturing children's voices...Thumpa Lahiri's Interpreter of Maladies is really a collection of short stories, in spite of the "novel" subtitle, and had a lot of memorable ones.

I’m glad to see the summing up. Oddly enough, of short stories I’ve read, I doubt there’s another that has made a greater impression on me than your #20. Well, I’d have to think too hard to confirm this. (Actually “The Next Village” by Kafka would be the top, but it’s pretty short.) I have yet to get to Flannery O’Connor.

@@davidnovakreadspoetry I don’t remember The Next Village. I may not have read it.

I’ve read several of the stories on your list and they are all memorable. Recently, I reread “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and it still triggered some suspense even though I knew what was coming.
A story you might want to check out is “The Story of An Hour” by Kate Chopin (1894) takes the reader on a remarkable rollercoaster of emotions in 3 pages.

Was glad to see "A&P" by John Updike on your list. I really like that one. "Pigeon Feathers," though, is pretty good.

No Graham Greene nor Somerset Maugham - you have a long way to go, mate.
