You know if i was crowbar collective i would feel both complimented and weirded out at the same time. This is basically fan work of a fan work, fanception. Its like being a fan of someone but then also having a fan. What a comfusing feeling

I was a BM:C Dev, and yes, CC is aware of it and it's very cool, once Adam (CC lead) was on the discord server and wished us good luck and it was great

I really wish someone would just make a version of Half-Life that is exactly how people imagined Half-Life: Source would look like before it was revealed it was going to be a mediocre port.
Some people would ask "why bother? just play regular HL1 or Black-Mesa"
Because, why the fuck not? Demakes are always an interesting experiment. To see how you can apply current-day game-dev tools, techniques, or skills to old engines like gld-src, to push that aging engine to it's limit.
It's like getting an old classic car that was popular in it's heyday and making a project out of it.
Hell, this Argument is made by a scientist in Black Mesa at the very start of the game.

Honestly, pushing gold source engine to its limits sounds like heaven.
I love seeing genuine passion craft mods that are highly detailed in the engine.

I wonder what approach they will take in regards to Xen. As much as i loved Black Mesa, some parts of their Xen was amazing and others, the plug puzzles and factory was downright infuriating. I hope Black Mesa Classic picks the best parts from both Black Mesa and Half-Life.
I agree. Xen looked fantastic in BM but some parts were very irritating. They did mention they will do original takes on some things. Xen might be one.
with mods like this... and the new HLDM maps valve made. we can really see how great Gold Source can really look!

It should be stated that this is being done within the custom Xash3D engine, not vanilla GOLDSRC. So they can get by with more demanding aspects with this project.

A similar project I really liked was Half-Life 2 Classic. A demake of Half-Life 2 in GoldSrc. I did a few of the Ravenholm maps for it, but we just kinda stopped making it for some reason. I guess life got in the way? I stopped since I had a lot of stuff to do with college. I hope we can start it again. Or something inspired by it at least :D

This summer we should be getting the first 6 chapters in one. Ik this will take some time but seeing Black Mesa in GoldSrce is really neat. Also i agree on being a sucker for Lighting. Its my favorite thing besides water

I've been on and off testing for this, it's pretty cool! I got involved because I had hoped it was the same team that was working on the Half Life 2 Classic mod which I was looking forward to seeing, but it was not! Nevermind!
Im a real fan of gold source graphics. Thus, I really like the idea of demaking recent games on goldsrc engine, especially if it's half life franchise

Do you think you could go more into detail on how Black Mesa's visuals were 'overstimulating'? Not that I disapprove of your opinion, it is your opinion after all but I'd like to hear you out as I am working on a mod that has been mostly unannounced that will have a similar graphics quality and I'd really like to get your perspective to see if there's a way I can avoid making a similar mistake.

Black Mesa is amazing but I really hate the AI behavior in Source. I have always felt like the enemies act like moving turrets with auto aim that will drain your health if they manage to line up with you. So I really prefer the feeling of GoldSrc.
So basically we gonna remakes of half life and black mesa?
I think many of us still will say the same, what is the point? How many remakes of Half-Life do we need?

Hopefully they finish it. I tried Black Mesa, but I found the visual style uninspired and the AI atrocious. I tried to like it, but had to refund it, unfortunately.
