The quality of the maps increases as the mod progresses is because the creator improved as he worked on it but never went back and redid his old maps. This is common for larger mods made by a single person who's new to modding. Although it's only the visual quality that improved, as he never learned how to do much with gameplay other than push buttons and fight combine soldiers.
I got a big jumpscare when I suddenly heard my name in the video :D I'm really glad you brought up the addon. I completely forgot that I uploaded it. Let me tell you something. Syph0, the lead developer of Rogue Lambda, told me that he and his team would be working with Richard to complete Prospekt and create the parts of the mod he'd intended to create but had been unable to do so himself. Sounds great, right? Well, it's not. It's an unmitigated disaster, and let me tell you why. I was a former member of the Rogue Lambda modding team and I was around pretty much since its inception. I was probably one of the longest serving members besides Syph0 himself, and that's only because he's the founder. Rogue Lambda came about in the aftermath of one of the many failed attempts at creating a Source Engine remake of Half-Life: Decay, way back in 2017. There are many different reasons why it failed, but the most prominent of these was the introduction of a member who appointed himself leader and became a self-styled dictator within the group, alienating many people with his poor behaviour. As we'd later discover, he was suffering severe mental health problems and eventually attempted to take his own life, though thankfully last I heard he's in a much better state now and used to make some really great custom maps for CS:GO. But we didn't know about any of that in 2017. We just knew we weren't happy and we wanted out. So we jumped ship, and a fair few of us went on to join this new team Syph0 had made. He called it "Rogue Lambda" as kind of an in-joke about the rebellious nature of the team's inception. Things were good, for a while. We were young and ambitious and we had some great mods in progress. Three, to be precise - a sequel to Opposing Force titled Race X, a remake of Opposing Force 2, and a truncated version of a mod concept of my own - an experience of the world in the aftermath of the Black Mesa incident but prior to the Combine invasion, exploring the social and political ramifications of the events unfolding, featuring elements inspired by Poke646, youreviltwin's story draft for the unfinished Critical Mass (still the greatest mod never made), and 2015 Inc's Hostile Takeover. Unfortunately, development was fraught with problems. The Op42 team, initially cooperative and encouraging, refused us permission to use their logo and certain assets, and insisted we change the name. Eventually, a compromise was reached where we would use a subtitle - Opposing Force 2: Lost. Of course, that never came into fruition, because the cloud where everyone's files were stored wasn't backed up, and partway through development (I'm not sure how far exactly but it was probably around 40% by my estimates) I was informed that a 14 year old Russian hacker had hacked into the repository and deleted everything. For a joke. It was around this time that I started noticing problems internally. The development of Race X kept being restarted from the ground up, and the story didn't seem to be coming together. After several years of barely clinging to life, the mod was finally put out of its misery. Syph0 does not know how to direct a mod, and it seems he struggles with writing too. Several times he approached me asking me to help with the story writing for various projects. Most prominently in my memory is an occurrence in 2021 where he requested that I help him with the story for the latest mod, Radiated (since renamed to The Badlands), in return for which I would be given the opportunity to have my own mod made by the team with 100% creative control. This never happened. What happened instead is that when I pitched a concept to the team that I felt certain we could get the rights - and the funding - for a fully licensed video game adaptation of a cult classic action film by creating a short demo and showcasing it to the rights holders, the team summarily clashed with me on what engine to use (an entirely arbitrary question at that stage, as we only needed a proof-of-concept showcasing the visual style and the gameplay), rejected any input from me for frivolous reasons, and quietly cancelled the project outright. Without telling me. It was then that I noticed the change that had occurred over the years - most of the people I knew had drifted away, and those that remained were younger and less experienced, and no less ambitious than I'd been when I started - but they were all highly irreverent and unprofessional, and seemed to only be in it for the fame and kudos. I noticed the team were taking on more and more ambitious and high-profile mod projects - a reimagining of the the fan favourite Vance after its controversial creator departed, the long-gestating Blue Shift 2, and most recently, the Prospekt gig. That's three high-profile, high-maintenance mods that are undoubtedly going to demand a lot of attention to bring them up to the standard expected by the community - so you tell me, how was Syph0 intending to keep his agreement to have the team develop my own project when mired with at least four other ambitious projects in the works, when the team are already displaying an unspoken but readily apparent contempt for me and my writing? Things finally came to a head when I had an altercation with one of the developers and was forced out. They had the call to call me immature when making childish comments about me. You can read my full post-exit meltdown here, if you're interested: web.archive.org/web/20240223190138/www.moddb.com/mods/revance/news/open-letter-from-a-disgruntled-ex-writer#articlesform Make no mistake - Rogue Lambda is not capable of finishing what they start. Their taking on Prospekt is the kiss of death.
the tragedy of Prospect made me reminds me of Bob's Game. These two thing have common. both games let down by it's over over-ambitious project, overrate themselves' skills and trying to contact multi-billion companies. but the difference is, that Prospect's Developer made learn mistake, and while Bob was... well just disappeared.
It's such a stupid ass choice to have a vortigaunt dump the entire plot of the game on a cutscene rather than having Shepard work alongside a VORTIGAUNT COMPANION. Think about it, think about how good that'd work as a concept. Shepard as a character would be uneasy, but has no other choice. He was murdering those fuckos by the dozens like 20 minutes before that if we ignore the time he spent in stasis, and the vortigaunt gets to develop as a character, not just dropping exposition but also showing that they're allies now and he's really on his side. And as the game goes, the Vort can PROPERLY EXPLAIN WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. If the Dev didn't even consider that idea then man, that's a skill issue on his end, I'm sorry.
in the past week i played a lot of HL 2 mods, is crazy the talent some ppl have to create such amazing mods (not this mod tho) But man a sequel to Half Life OP following the story of Adrian would be 10/10
What I find strange is how loose Valve is with source amd Half Life IP nowadays. Back in the hay day of the engine there were many projects that wanted to go commercial but Valve would not license the engine or they would ask a ridiculously high price (probably on purpose, a soft rejection). Then suddenly stuff like HDTF and Prospekt is released and sold on Steam... Wtf
Crazy how two of the most disappointing hl2 mods are both connected to Opposing Force

I like how all the dark areas could’ve been easily fixed IF THEY GAVE HIM A NVG just like he’s supposed to?
WHERE DID YOU GET THE ART AT 4:13 LIKE WTF I NEED TO USE THIS AGAINST HUMANITY
10:51 Could've used some yellow paint ;)
Rad I’ve been gooning and edging to ur videos recently 💔
wake up babe, rad haz has just uploaded a killer video!!
Make no mistake - Rogue Lambda is not capable of finishing what they start.
The briefcase thing is a joke, right? He didn't actually expect people to not be weirded out by an Opposing Force briefcase, there's no way.
Make a tutorial on how to download mods and/or other half lifes (I watch you from Brazil 🇧🇷)
Prospekt.
this half is life and tragedy
the lesson to be learned here is to not bet everything on Valve offering you a job
just ask the Beta hacker how that went
I wish the creators of "gordon freakman" or "cracklife" did that stunt of sending the mod to valve in a briefcase!
Prospekt is the original history made by marc laidlaw for opposing mid, my uncle is gabe newell and he say this is real
Tragedy
It's so bark and driggy
in the past week i played a lot of HL 2 mods, is crazy the talent some ppl have to create such amazing mods (not this mod tho) But man a sequel to Half Life OP following the story of Adrian would be 10/10
I have question: if I want to send you a "fanart" hiw do I do it?
You can email me at contact.radiationhazard@gmail.com
@@RadiationHazardYT Good to know!
good vid cheese
What I find strange is how loose Valve is with source amd Half Life IP nowadays. Back in the hay day of the engine there were many projects that wanted to go commercial but Valve would not license the engine or they would ask a ridiculously high price (probably on purpose, a soft rejection). Then suddenly stuff like HDTF and Prospekt is released and sold on Steam... Wtf
Opposing force lost remains the best op4 sequel
Nice
