Nice!! Can't wait to put mine in the mix. Planning it out before I put it in production - hey, what are your avg fan speeds at that idle? Mine were around 40% until I wrote a curve script that uses ipmitool. Now they idle around 7% @ 30C.
@@techheart6090 I did the same. It's unbearable without if you're in the same room. Keep an eye on temps if you're hammering it though, it's loud for a reason.
Hey there brother man. Really appreciate the shout out! I really enjoyed watching this as it answered a lot of unasked questions I had lingering in the back of muh grape! I've been trying to wrap my head around RAM usage on proxmox lately. It seems that the gameservers I host always show high RAM usage (nearly max) no matter what I do, but if you SSH into the vm's themselves they only use a portion of it. I really need to find a dashboard that suits me (I'll be looking into the one you use for sure!). I've been contemplating a restructure of my server's now that I've spent the past year learning. I figure I could optimize my setup quite a bit by consolidating a lot of services to a single VM. Was definitely in a "dry spell" in motivation lately and you just lit a fire under my tail to get excited again. Thank you man. I really appreciate it =)
Currently I'm in testing mode before I put it into use, but it'll take 4 x 18TB HDDs currently in a ZFS-1 but will be changing to a ZFS-2 and adding a couple more 18TBs. It'll have 2 x 2TB SSDs in the rear for Proxmox and prolly an NVME PCI card for VM/CT storage.... I always test server out heavily before replacing some other server...
If you wanted a little more CPU power on that r330, you could pickup a E3-1280 v6 (i see you have a v5) on ebay for $40. It’s so weird how the r320 supports duel a CPUs with the max theoretically being 10 cores (20 threads) per socket but the r330s only support CPUs that have a max of 4 cores (8 threads)
Yea - the only reason I didn't grab that better CPU on the r330 is because I beat it by upgrading the r320's CPU. LOL....... so weird that they kiled the r330s ability after that last generation... weird.
@@techheart6090 Lol, I don’t know how you use them in your home hahaha. I’m trying to use a mini PC with a Ryzen 5825U and usb drive cage for a storage server that is powerful and efficient at 15w TDP. Wish me luck! Haha
@@danielmmbfhvxdyhv IMPI Tool my friend lol. I've got the RX730xd on my rack and my wife's PC is set up literally right beside it. Not only does it not make a ton of noise, but we don't even notice it's there lol. As @techheart6090 mentioned, I've got a video somewhere on my page that shows how to do it. And if you use proxmox you can disregard the video in that Debian has IMPI tool in it's repositories so you can just install it direct to your proxmox hypervisor and SSH in to adjust fan speeds on the fly. I just set up a bunch of bash aliases to adjust in 5% increments so I can change it as needed. It's really slick and works perfectly.
Great video. The repurposed r730 bed heaters are a solid choice. I loved mine and I'm sad to see it go. Here's to labbin' in '25 🎉
Dude; I found my r730xd for $400 bux! I couldn't pass it up!!
@techheart6090 that's a great deal. I paid £500 for mine and sold the drives for £250. Was very happy with that.

Homarr is decent, but only as a dashboard - nothing more. Theres others, but Homarr does it for ME. :P
You're channel is awesome. Keep going!!!
What drives do you have in that R730xd?

How are those servers fans not screaming with noise?
These dell servers actually run pretty quiet with just a basic fan profile
The new r730xd IS screaming - but the others not so much.......
