Could be hard times. Drugs. Gambling addiction. I tend to think real sentimental items would be pawned before being sold so that way you have chance of getting it back.
It never seizes to amaze me that someone expect a pawn shop to pay auction prices. It’s a pawn shop. You go in expecting to get 30% or less of what it’s worth
I don’t think people understand how illiquid these markets are. The infrequency of some items coming to market, the time and difficulty of finding the right buyer. I saw one with a guitar strap from Stevie ray Vaughan and the seller was saying the guitars sold for 100s of thousands at auction. But someone who’s gonna spend 40k for a guitar strap would probably need to be someone who wants a complete set. If you don’t know the guy who bought that 600k guitar, even if he would be willing to pay 40k to complete the set, there’s much more value in being the “market maker” than the inventory cost or intrinsic value of the item.
I love when the experts say something is worth $30k and the seller says “you heard what it’s worth, I want $30k for it” like the expect Rick or other pawn shops to buy an item for exactly what it’s worth and not make any money for it. They would actually lose money by “breaking even” because they still have to pay their workers, rent, utilities, etc….

He probably had already tried to sell that else where and got nothing. So he went to Pawn Star hoping they would pay him what his stubbornness says it is "actually worth" and got nothing all over again. Really stubborn when it comes to what might give him some money.
You answered you own question with your opening remark - aka the definition of being professional is never going of on anyone at anytime while working within your specified profession.
I like how the last guy said the experts opinion were different than his. of course everyone thinks their stuff is worth a fortune because it's their stuff.
Expert: presents lots of observations with his trained eye and gives a professional opinion. " It's most likely propaganda. Things aren't adding up here to make this a blueprint for a number of reasons..." Schmuck who literally bought them in a catalog: "These are what I say they are [because I spent a lot of money on them and refuse to acknowledge that I might have screwed up]." You'll excuse my paraphrasing lol
Both have strong points and arguments (print publisher and the date before the sinking and the why and logic reasoning) but none have any real proof (studies, photos, other documents, even audio recordings) to back them so it's a gamble.
Pat said that this was just for show... He never intended to sell the games to them. They called him up and asked him if he wanted to be in the show because they got wind that he has some rare games in his collection.
Sure... In first place you have to buy buyer. That takes time and effort. 30k is a lot of money and market is already niche so that severely restricts who would want it. Secondly auctions take +20% and you have to count in work hours they put in to store and sell the stuff. And you can always sell stuff for whatever you want, but that's totally different from people actually buying the stuff for that amount.
It surprises me how the owners can believe their item is worth many times more than the expert's estimate, but don't have a reasonable justification for that belief.
"Money is common but these are super uncommon" is probably THE funniest, most ridiculous line I've ever heard from a seller in the history of this show, lmao!

Pat said he was never going to sell them. The show just called him up to come in and pretend to sell them. It was all staged. If you didn't know Pat is a pretty famous NES collector. Hence why he did a colab video with the Angry Video Game Nerd.
Pat never had any intention to sell these. It was staged. What's funny is the prices for the grey carts is like 80 to 100 grand now in good condition. The market for the gold cart has never really been tested.

I am lmao just that he's there at all, and they have no idea who he is
"Rick: The seller was wanting more than that though.
Expert: Don't we all?"
Golden come back.
The last seller was the worst had zero evidence
He probably had already tried to sell that else where and got nothing. So he went to Pawn Star hoping they would pay him what his stubbornness says it is "actually worth" and got nothing all over again. Really stubborn when it comes to what might give him some money.
Sword of S the last seller was the battleship blueprints not the boxing gloves
I LOVE THE LONG PAWN STAR COMPILATIONS
Rick really wraps up the deal so quick after the price is settled. It's very wham bam thank you maam.
Rick "Bring out the Buddy"
Zed "The Buddy's sleeping"
Rick "Well I guess you're gonna have to wake him up"
Why does Rick laugh at the end of every single sentence? 😂
Because Rick just rolled the customer.
Master level savagery right there.
Imagine him watching a comedy at a movie theater
Helps break the tension.
@@concludedhail40 never gonna give, never gonna give...
I loved that chum was nodding and agreeing when dude said he could charge basically whatever he wanted for the games
Thats pat the nes punk lol from youtube , hes popular in the gamer world lol
Chum is an expert at "nodding" 😅
Pat walks in with the nes championship games.
Chum: I need to call an expert.
Avgn walks in 😎
When he said "as long as you don't break it!". Mate, right there with you.
Craig is very professional, can’t believe he doesn’t go off on this guy.
You answered you own question with your opening remark - aka the definition of being professional is never going of on anyone at anytime while working within your specified profession.
@@petershanks3049 I don’t think he asked a question. He was commenting on his level of professionalism.
@@petershanks3049 Uh… where was the question?
What is a question? Oh it's the thing before the question mark 😁

I like how Big Hoss had some faith in a very nice woman. People can be trusted, just not every single one.
Too bad she didn't send it
@@sethchritton9926 maybe she did, but they didn't have time to show it
says he doesn't want to say how much he paid for them, but shows the bill of sale that states he paid $12,500
The guy with the Marshall took $2200 cause he didn’t wanna have to load that thing back into his car, and his back thanked him for that
Spoken like someone with experience. Haha absolutely!
Honestly big hoss having faith even tho it didn’t pan out gives me hope for humanity
The guy was big mad when the boy Craig said they ain’t worth the much 😂😂 they are what I say they are 😂41:26
I like how the last guy said the experts opinion were different than his. of course everyone thinks their stuff is worth a fortune because it's their stuff.
Loved that "I ordered the thermos myself... it was worth the 25 bucks for peace of mind" LMAO
"My opinion is different than the experts" lmfao
I mean the ship sank in 1898 while the picture said 1889
"These are not what you say they are. These are what I say they are." Such a male Karen
Expert: presents lots of observations with his trained eye and gives a professional opinion. " It's most likely propaganda. Things aren't adding up here to make this a blueprint for a number of reasons..."
Schmuck who literally bought them in a catalog: "These are what I say they are [because I spent a lot of money on them and refuse to acknowledge that I might have screwed up]."
You'll excuse my paraphrasing lol
yea that guy is a joke... what a loser.
Both have strong points and arguments (print publisher and the date before the sinking and the why and logic reasoning) but none have any real proof (studies, photos, other documents, even audio recordings) to back them so it's a gamble.

I kinda felt bad for the old man
Hate when the experts do that
Pat the NES punk! Hahahah he actually just went on the show to flex 💪 🤣 what a CHAD ❤️
No way I’d tell them a price until after the expert comes in. Low ball everyone
3:37 That's Pat the NES Punk !
My friend had that SAME Marshall amplifier he used for his Les Paul. Sounded amazing.
20:32 that's the first funny joke Rick has ever made and he didn't even laugh at it like he laughs at all his other jokes.
He didn't laugh because he know how much money it's costing him
How did I pass this comment the exact time I was watching it.
It's crazy to think if they had bought the NES carts at the time at full value they would have made easily 5 times that now.
Pat said that this was just for show... He never intended to sell the games to them. They called him up and asked him if he wanted to be in the show because they got wind that he has some rare games in his collection.
@@winnetouch Exactly its all staged. Those are worth way more than that now.
Well, they would of had to sit on them for a few years to get that high return but still would of been a good deal.
That guy is well known.. nes punk.
Expert comes in like “I’d say it’s worth about 1 million” Rick: “20$ take it or leave it”
I might have actually taken the guy's deal on the Nintendo games. He had a fair point, they could virtually sell it for whatever they wanted.
But that's dishonest and Rick has standards for his shop 😀
@@dominicvucic8654 sure.......
@@dominicvucic8654 wtf
@@dominicvucic8654 It’s not dishonest to sell for what someone is willing to pay.
Whoever his buddy was in the first video, he has my heart. Thank you.
It surprises me how the owners can believe their item is worth many times more than the expert's estimate, but don't have a reasonable justification for that belief.
"1973 100 watt Marshall head..."
"All tube?"
"No, it's digital..."
I was suprised the expert didn’t know it was a JCM 45 too, I feel like that price was waaaayyyy too low, more like 7000-8000 imo
Lmao, my thoughts exactly

Maybe he needed a fix!
Someone should go through every single Pawn Stars episode and compile every “Buddy” quote
"Money is common but these are super uncommon" is probably THE funniest, most ridiculous line I've ever heard from a seller in the history of this show, lmao!
money is very common... its literally there to control and brainwash people... smh the amount of people who don't understand that blows my mind.
TH-cam: So how many ads do you want?
Rick: All of them
TH-cam: Best I can do is one every two minutes I'm taken all of this risk here Ill have to have it framed and it will take me a year to sell

Pat the NES Punk makes an appearance.... LOL!!
Let me call a buddy of mine who knows more about unregistered fire arms and narcotics. Then Chumlee walks in
Oh no
Registration is unconstitutional
Take a shot every time Rick laughs at his own joke 🥴
Not only does he have an unlimited supply of buddies, but they all live 2 mins away from the shop.
All the experts to their own customers
“Rick is calling this can wait.”
"In the mix I don't earn a whole lot of money" he says whilst being filmed by a film crew for a popular TV show averaging 1.2 million views per episode
Guy: "I got these in a magazine"
Also guy: "These are incredibly rare government blueprints"

Rick have all the expert's working around the pawn shop 😆
Keeping those Nintendo Cartridges was the best move he ever made
How much does it worth? Did he sold them?
Pat said he was never going to sell them. The show just called him up to come in and pretend to sell them. It was all staged. If you didn't know Pat is a pretty famous NES collector. Hence why he did a colab video with the Angry Video Game Nerd.
@@MWKRider Glad it was staged. I remember I used to watch his show, and my heart sank when I saw him try to sell them
@@MWKRider when I saw Pat in the thumbnail I thought he was the expert, not the seller...
Pat never had any intention to sell these. It was staged. What's funny is the prices for the grey carts is like 80 to 100 grand now in good condition. The market for the gold cart has never really been tested.
29:41 how can that be a real signature with the stitching over top like that? I thought the other "signature expert" was the sketchy one?
The Jetson Thermos, With the Thermos, Rick, was a great buy! LOL!
