this is seriously good stuff. what a musicality. its the first time i see who plays it. The music seemed like old stuff made now. Nice sintetizado, really amazing voice, suprising. Keep going. Bravo!
Yeah, the live recordings I've seen haven't been great. His vocals always seems sketchy...don't think there is any avoiding it. I saw them at a festival last summer and they sounded great...even his vocals were good.
Does anyone know how they make the trumpet sound so full? Are they synthesizing other horns on one of the keyboards? Damn they sound awesome. Love this band
Jin J me too my friend me too. Hey but if you liked Smith Westerns check out Cullen Omori's solo stuff his sound has kinda stayed the same since the break up.
the interview would be a lot less awkward without the interviewers facial expression, Julien seemed more creeped out that purposefully rude or anything
I think I read that the touring was just too intense they were at it for like a year and went through like two drummers I believe, one of them being him
I think Ruban said in an interview that the age gap between him and the bassist with Max caused a slight conflict in the band whilst touring due to personal differences. They're clearly still on good terms tho cause Whitney toured with UMO
You guitar heads and your "tone". Honestly, it has a lot to do with the room that they're playing in and the choices of the sound engineer. The knobs can only do so much..
awesome ! a few things to state: these guitars look f* beautiful the interviewer has a strange paranoid look the singer rocks but he could use a little overdrive, i feel like he is super on tune but hasnt got the same drive as on the record peacee
Having a drummer as the lead singer seems to make all the other elements really intricate. It makes such a good sound!
Bryn Jenkins had no idea the singer was the drummer
Yes, it's like this integration that happens...
One of the most underrated bands out for sure...Love these dudes so much!!!
Matty Bee underrated? They are pretty successful man
Their performances sounds so much better in this setting!
I could watch kakacek play all day. Total genius, underrated guitar player.
Golden days is such a good song, that guitar sound is so nice
The trumpet and nah nah nah at end is one of my favorite musical moments of the last decade
Finally! I've been waiting for this one to be uploaded
deadasamau5 yeah you are right!! The sound is amazing and this band is so fresh!! 😋
nicolas etrab I really enjoyed seeing them live in the summertime
this band takes me to my happy place!! Fresh , new sound and makes me smile and dance !
Saw these guys live in feb 2020 in an old church. They're incredible live. Still one of my all time favorite bands!
Thank you KEXP for the upload... this is now my best way to discover bands that are not well represented in our old Europe...😁
id highly recommend downloading spotify! :)
kexp always bring good bands
thank you for taking me an octave higher to heaven ..
Golden Days: 0:19
No Woman: 4:16
No Matter Where We Go: 14:13
Polly: 16:57
I fell in love with the singer help
it's quite severe
the contrast between the singer's vibe and the interviewers
My favorite new discovery band of 2016.
can always go back to this performance for some happiness
Same i have been waiting for this band
so freakin nailed it , cheers from the phillipines
i've completely fallen in love with Whitney, thank you
this is seriously good stuff. what a musicality. its the first time i see who plays it. The music seemed like old stuff made now. Nice sintetizado, really amazing voice, suprising. Keep going. Bravo!
No Woman is such a brilliant song
very good mixing, bass and piano is loud and i love it,,, thanks kexp thanks Kevin Suggs
So good
The interviewer did great for his first one on here
i've seen him do this before.
tough band to interview as well
he's old man, his wide eyed mug has been doing interviews here for years.
Obviously bcs the lead man is an asshole. But music is great
Dafunckt why do u think he's an asshole? been to show of theirs just yesterday, and couldn't disagree more, he seems really kind and genuine
So glad the finally made it on KEXP!!
I saw them live in Winnipeg. They were great
Live sounds so sweet bro
Great band. Thanks for this interview and live stuff
Looking forward to the new album!
I enjoy the slide guitar parts, reminds me of something George Harrison would play.
Pete Drake was the steel pedal guitarist on those Harrison songs.
is it me or is this dude wicked blazed AF?
To the girl who broke up with Julien... THANK YOU! You indirectly helped gift the world some magical tunes!
any time i get into a new band i can type in the band name followed by kexp, and its always here
The intro to No Woman has some Radio head- Weird Fishes vibes going.
It’s the same chord progression (or really similar at that) so yeah for sure. Great stuff!
So good, just saw Whitney live perform a festival. It was easily the best band playing that weekend, great gig. See you soon
I love these boys so much ❤️
this is so good ♡♡♡ they're amazing
I like this!
So smooth and pretty 👽
creative.....give them a thumbs up !
i`m crying
Whoa, didn't know Kai The Hitchhiker had a band. He really smash-smash-sa-mashed those drums.
i love this
Love the album but I haven't seen any live performances yet where they do it justice... maybe in the flesh would make a big difference
Yeah, the live recordings I've seen haven't been great. His vocals always seems sketchy...don't think there is any avoiding it. I saw them at a festival last summer and they sounded great...even his vocals were good.
+timinno they've been touring a lot. I'm sure after a bit of a vocal rest the live performances will be great
They’re generally really good live! Seen them twelve times now
I feel like he could do a wicked Mickey Mouse impression
XD So true
John Smith you're so right
th-cam.com/video/U7jaXu3KroY/w-d-xo.html
H-ha!!
I didn't even know the Smith Westerns broke up. Glad to see some of them are still keeping the twee-soul vibes going.
interviewer is trippin balls my guy
He didn't even kiss the guitarist...
This is just 2 Harry Potters, a Hagrid, 2 hufflepuffs and Tyrion Lannister.
pitchfork's wet dream
dude, totally
And now they're playing the fest this year lol
awwwwwesome
Yessss
Does anyone know how they make the trumpet sound so full? Are they synthesizing other horns on one of the keyboards? Damn they sound awesome. Love this band
a bit late but the trumpet player (Will Miller) has talked about using an octave pedal to make it seem like there's more horns than there are.
it kinda feels like larry rose could interrogate suspects, 9/10 would fold under the pressure of his powerful glance
these guys are so handsome
No woman 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
yayyy
well hello there felix! haha
aww ya`
nice to see you here, Paula!
Who knew Seth Rogen is so good at trumpet
The interviewer needs to let the questions hang a little bit. Jumps on the people wayyyy to much
the end of the interview was a bit akw. hahahaha
Rip the smith westerns
Seems like they're always asking these bands if they want to play some music. "....................No."
Actually don't think the interview is awkward at all.
👍👍👍
this fucking high-hat is killing me
Las guitarras son perfectas
whats that keyboard
i found out, i think its a Korg SV-1. very sick
I have one.. they are awesome!
jelly!!
I thought his voice was gonna crack any minute a little short on breathing technique perhaps?
Talk about the stuff you don't wanna talk about please
Did he say that influence they discovered was Jim Ford? Or what was the name of that artist, that he mentioned. Does anyone know??
❤
Does the host blink sometimes? Please guys, I'm worried
That Mustang sounds like everything a Mustang isn't
Very cool. I miss the Smith Westerns though...
Jin J me too my friend me too. Hey but if you liked Smith Westerns check out Cullen Omori's solo stuff his sound has kinda stayed the same since the break up.
That nudity jokes were uncalled for
Jim Fore? 10:48
the interview would be a lot less awkward without the interviewers facial expression, Julien seemed more creeped out that purposefully rude or anything
4:15
sexlovemarshmellows Spinetta
Anyone know what the keyboard is in this video?
What's the ride and hi-hat?
These guys are the new "Eagles"
Does anyone know what kind of glasses Julien is wearing?
Warby Parker.
que sonzera
The vocalist looks like John Lennon.
By the way, who came for Life is Strange?
Too bad he doesn’t sing like him 😂
9:59 Weed vs MDMA
Ahahahahha I see it
DON'T BLINK
I didn't get what happened with UMO, did he get kicked out of the band ?
I think I read that the touring was just too intense they were at it for like a year and went through like two drummers I believe, one of them being him
I think Ruban said in an interview that the age gap between him and the bassist with Max caused a slight conflict in the band whilst touring due to personal differences. They're clearly still on good terms tho cause Whitney toured with UMO
Thanks guys
lead guitar tone is dryer than a desert
Better than another reverb band
Reverb does wonders.
they have a trumpet
It may not fit preference , but there is a purpose to the tone 🌀
You guitar heads and your "tone". Honestly, it has a lot to do with the room that they're playing in and the choices of the sound engineer. The knobs can only do so much..
cool 👀
En algunos momentos la guitarra suena al slide de George Harrison.
this guy is one zig zag scar from a perfect harry potter
the lead vocals def my type ehehe
awesome !
a few things to state:
these guitars look f* beautiful
the interviewer has a strange paranoid look
the singer rocks but he could use a little overdrive,
i feel like he is super on tune but hasnt got the same drive as on the record
peacee
First time I ever heard No Woman I thought it was Neil young
Why is this guy the most un organised interviewer of all time?
ALWAYS
interviewer doesnt blink
The drummer looks like a even cuter Sean Lennon!!!😍
is that a falseto?
clear music in in extinction
Thats not whitney houston
The interviewer looks absolutely crushed off something.
