Maya and MetaHumans - My own custom FACE and BODY tools

  • Just a quick video showing my own tools, built in Maya's MEL language, that I have nicknamed "MetaGex". I use them when making films inside Maya (with MetaHumans). I use these tools to quickly change facial expressions and body poses - and even to cleanup lipsync. I also often use the Maya Live Link plugin so I can see my results in realtime in Unreal Engine 5. (Once I'm finished animating, I use FBX to transfer the face and body animations over to Unreal.)

    Hello, I'm trying to create a cartoony character with Metahuman. May I ask how you were able to create custom mouth shapes and hook them into Metahuman visemes sliders? And export to UE5 to render?

      I didn’t, this a rig that comes with MetaHumans :) If you follow the tutorial, you’ll see that I download MetaHumans using “Bridge”, and it comes with maya files, and you open them and the mouthshapes are already setup in Maya. Hope that helps!

    Wow! Amazing! is there any news about the release of your script?

      I’m working some more on it, but it’s still quite buggy. :) I’m not exactly a MEL expert lol. I’m not sure I will ever release it as I don’t know if there’s much interest honestly!

      Unfortunately development stalled because I found Maya taking too much time to animate in, and I work fulltime at my day job :(
