Matty!!! I just broke 80!! 7 over! My last putt was for par and i was SWEATING. I took lessons, and used your course management mentality. It works folks. 4 months ago i was shooting 95 or over. If youre a beginner its worth noting ive been playing golf since i was 5, and played high school golf. I just stopped playing often for 3 years and developed HORRIBLE habits. Im also 34 now and swing speed just isnt the same. Fixing my swing, and using Matts course management is bringing my game to a whole new level.
Congrats buddy! I just broke 80 for the first time too. 7 over at San Jose muni about 3 weeks ago. I bogeyed 16 and 17 then birdied 18 haha I signed my ball with course date and score and keep it in my bags “pocket of inspiration” Playing same course today. I’ll be happy to repeat lol
So inspiring. I have been playing golf for my whole life and only broke 100 a couple of times. I broke 90 after watching Matty for about 2-3 months. I am on the journey to break 80, but I am working with a PGA coach fixing my swing (it's horrible) and practicing my short game and putts frequently. I am going to buy a PrimePutt matt soon, can't wait. Hope to join you by the time it's golf season next year!
Matty Boom Boom!! I am a beginner who broke 100 for the first time last month and I have scored 101, 98, 100, 98, and 99 in my last five rounds off of the white tees. I played for 1.5 years trying to figure it out on my own but got nowhere, scoring between 108 to 120. Then 4 months back I followed your advise and got a coach and immediately started to see results. I tee off using my 6-iron, my confidentiality club, that goes between 180 and 190 normally and can reach up to 210 with the wind behind my back. I only use 56, and pw through 6. My goal for the next 2 years or maybe 2 decades or however long it takes me to break 80, is to focus only on putting, chipping, and pitching. I feel confident that I can break 80 hitting only 180-190 off the tee with my 6-iron. Thanks for all your videos man! I can't even begin to describe how much my golf life has gotten better after a) getting a coach; b) practicing course management; c) putting my driver away; d) managing my emotions and not getting tilted after I shit the bed; and e) practicing pitching, chipping, and putting. Thank you!
Eventually, you will start getting more confident with the longer clubs. I was in the same boat as you and have been seeing a coach. I can hit a driver now somewhat reliably about 230 yards. I get about 1 OB shot every 2 rounds off the tee, which I think is pretty good for like a 20 handicap lol. I broke 90 for the first time after working very hard on my short game and implementing the driver (however I still tee off with a 5 or 6 iron on shorter par 4s or if I am not feeling confident with the driver that day). I am in the same boat as you and going to try to break 80!! What a journey we are on. Matt is such a legend. Best of luck to you!
@@tim5749 Thanks for your comment man! It's amazing that you only have one OB per two rounds.. that too with a driver. Wow. Makes me feel very optimistic. I'll take your word for one day the longer clubs becoming manageable. Congrats on breaking 90 and sending best wishes for breaking 80. Short game is so hard, with the high precision, touch, delicacy, and much harder lies than fairway shots but also so much fun for exactly the same reasons. @@GolfSidekick :) Thanks Matty!! Honestly can't thank you enough! When I first saw your PSP150 video, the first thing you said was get a coach. @ one thing that helped me with the driver was the pga coach helped me to only have one ball flight - straight or a draw, sometimes a hook. I used to slice like crazy before seeing a coach. Now I aim down the right side of every hole, and I just hit an old man nice and easy swing. I just have a one way miss now with the driver so if I hit it OB it’s because I pull hook the ball but these happen rarely. My OB shot stat I gave was one OB ONLY off the tee per two rounds. I take my average drive x 30. I think that makes for a more enjoyable round with a better chance of making some greens in regulation. I’m a bogey golfer with a 180 yd drive so I play about 5500 yards at my age, 77.

Hey, Matt. I noticed that the 4.5% rule is in conflict with the (USGA?) metric of 36 x (5-iron distance). Being that you're a stats guy, I was wondering if you have any thoughts on that? in my case, the difference is about 1200 total course yards. Honestly, the 4.5% rule seems to be overly conservative...

Me and my son just played in Buffalo..45degrees and rain..not a single person on the course…Heaven 😂…usually waiting on every shot..Do you own that course..?
Pga of America says to find out ehich tees to play from take your 5 iron carry distance and times it by 36, my 5 goes 170 x36 comes out to around 6200 yrds ish....
Matty, I don’t know about your math but 295x22=6,490:yards 😂. If I take my average of 150 yard drives, I come up with a course I should play of 3300. This makes no sense as I have to play off the senior tees as the closest ones I’m allowed to play at my course. My handicap as of this morning is a 24.9 which keeps creeping up with the last 8 rounds with 4 rounds of a 97. Still trying to break 90! After a round I look back and count how many bad shots I make during the round, I figure I could get a 89 to 91, but it’s hard to not make any mistakes. Sometimes, I make a recovery and if I do and at least make a bogey, I don’t count the mistake shot I made on that hole. I don’t think golfing like Rory is in my cards EVER! I am still amazed at how well you make contact on almost every shot and how you get so close to the hole. You are the BAUS! Also I love and get a lot of comments on the 2 shirts I bought from you. The price was reasonable and how fast I got them from Thailand was as good as if I got it from the U.S.. 😊
I was always told take your 5i carry distance × 36 and thats the max distance you should play. You wont feel like Rory out there though 😂 By your logic a guy hitting it 270 should play under 6k yards? I love the content bro but thats pushing it 😂
I think it's a logical fallacy to play any sport thinking you can be like the top players. That's what the advertising and marketing golf companies want to make you feel. Then you spend lots of money on things you don't need
He’s not saying play that distance all the time he’s just saying if you want to play proportional golf to the clubs Rory is hitting in a round that’s where you’d have to play
It's more of a thought experiment, like lowering the basket so you can pretend your 6'9" and dunk it more easily. Or proportionately shrinking the free throw line to you below NBA average height. People are mistaking this experiment with "this is what you should be playing". No, it's "this is kind of what it's like to play a course if you drove it like Rory, based on your significantly shorter drive distance".
Playa. Because par threes are not typically holes that you hit a driver on, think that that computation constant needs to be adjusted. Par threes offer wildly different yardages that feed into the total yardage of the teas that we play. You agree?
Rory hasn't won recently. I want to feel like Bryson, so I'm going to take my driver carry and multiply by 20 instead. The group in front needs to hurry the hell up!!!
Love your content, but sorry, I don't buy it. I hit my driver 250-265, and 6500 feels comfortable (I'm a 14). You're saying I should be playing 5,500. That's the red tees at our club.
You don't buy it? Is he selling something? He is suggesting this yardage rule should allow you to play from tees that are proportionally similar to long-hitting touring pros and the style of play that they attack courses with. This rule doesn't suggest you should be bound to those limits or that you can't play decent golf from longer distances. When is the last time you saw Rory approach a par 4 green with anything longer than a 5 iron? That doesn't mean you can't play from tees that require longer approaches, but you wouldn't be playing with the same options as someone like Rory if you were. No need to defend your ego.
theres nothing to buy. mathematically if you play at 5,500 and drive it 265 you will feel like rory. Rory hits short irons / wedges into most par 4s. Currently you likely hit lots of 5-7 irons into greens.
@@warrenlu6724 very well explained. I avg 230. That puts me at 5,060 (Red tees). I just looked at the scorecard of the course I generally play, and you're right: Not counting the par 3s, I would be hitting 56w, PW or 9i for my 2nd shot into the green on all but 2 holes (P5s). One P5 would leave me 200 out if I hit my avg and the other 150 out. That's a 3i and 7i respectively. I would definitely feel like a tour pro playing from the reds. But I choose not to, yet... (I'm 52).
It is good to choose a correct course but 4.5% is not a good number. By this formula, a man who drives 200 should play a 4400 yard course. This is too short. You have already demonstrated how hitting max 175-200 can lead to good scores on a medium long course.
Ha first off no tees should be gender specific. Play all the tees to work on different things in your game. We often play match play where we start on the middle tees usually blues or whites and if someone goes one up they slide back and the person down goes up and if you go two up you slide back again and they slide up again. It’s amazing what a leveler it is in match play. If you’re all single digit you can throw handicaps out the window and just do that. It’s a blast
Why always that paint. you have such great content ….I watch all your advise & rounds but its always so distracting and not serious that paint. Pity but probably needed
That equation is just stupid. I normally play about 6800 yards and i dont even need driver or 3 wood to reach any of the holes but with your logic i should be playing 6200 yards definetly not sry. Love the content though keep it up
So by that math I have barely a 200-yard drive so I really should only be playing 4500 yard courses? That's depressing There's no way in my life I'm ever going to get a 295 yd drive so I should just give up? Great.
No, he’s not saying you should give up, he’s saying you won’t feel like Rory on your approach shots. But that’s totally ok, Rory has buckets of money from winning golf competitions. You certainly don’t have to feel like Rory to have fun.
@CGBrendy I would also say that people like that also grew up with Daddy helping them play and learn and get lessons. I started playing at 47. I average high 80s low '90s after a year and a half of playing. But I do want to be better. I'm not satisfied.

dont take it too serious
Rory hasn't won recently. I want to feel like Bryson, so I'm going to take my driver carry and multiply by 20 instead. The group in front needs to hurry the hell up!!!
yikes! i hit around 200 yards on a really good drive. So I should be playing 4,400, that's the reds, methinks. Still, why not?
Hmmm… my way of feeling like Rory is choking over crucial short putts.🤷🏼♂️😛
Mine is to whine about everything and break up over text with my fiance and care about climate change on my private jet.
So I need to find a course that’s 4,620 yards… lol
correct sir
@@derekilopan no shame in the reds bro! Im 24 and do sometimes
6400 feels comfortable to you, but the title of the video isn’t “how to feel comfortable” it’s “how to feel like Rory”
Hole 14: I'll bet that clubhouse gets drilled once in awhile.
too far away - only big dogs can hit it
It is good to choose a correct course but 4.5% is not a good number. By this formula, a man who drives 200 should play a 4400 yard course. This is too short. You have already demonstrated how hitting max 175-200 can lead to good scores on a medium long course.
Read the title again please
@@GolfSidekick I see said the blind man. Got it. Tournament committee must use every trick in the book to keep top pros from shooting 60 every day.
By the formula Id be playing ladies tees w a 252 yd drive
thenn you will feel like rory feels
focus. we are talking about being Rory. I would be a lady-Rory any day.

Pity but probably needed
in this political climate, to go after a mans culture is hurtful
Scissors cuts paper, you big tipper.
Golf all done for year, so sorry.

That's depressing
There's no way in my life I'm ever going to get a 295 yd drive so I should just give up?
