    It’s nice to see the Waddaplaya Confidential Classic back in the videos. I bought this from his store about a month ago. I absolutely love it. My lag putts are sooo much better coming from Scotty mallets. Everyone thinks the putter would be hard to aim, but it’s quite the opposite. I have no problems lining up the putter.
    Zero regrets buying this putter from Matt. It’s a conversation piece and everyone has something to say about it. It looks and feels nearly identical to the newest release of the Wilson 8802 forged model. I’ve tried both and this is much better. Matt gives you two grips and a weight for counterbalancing the putter. Customer service is excellent and they communicate well all the way through the process. Matt even signed a ball for me. I have it in a case right next to a ball the Mickleson gave my kid at the Presidents cup years ago.
    The putter weighs a total of 526 grams with the counter balance and 36” shaft. The face is pretty big at 4.125” wide by 1” tall.
    My 2024 Wilson Infinite Bucktown fang putter looks way bigger but it weighs 546 grams with a 3.5” wide x 7/8” face.
    I haven’t weighed my Scotty’s yet, but they feel lighter even with 20 gram screw in weights.

    Matty boom boom. You are truly one of the great instructors and I’ve tried to pass your videos on to my buddies who just pump driver into the woods. They still don’t want to learn and then hate golf and act like it’s golf’s fault. You have taught me so much in my year and a half playing and I started at over 150 strokes per round and I then followed the way of the playa and I shoot regularly low 90s and am practicing to break 90! I would always get judged by my buddy for hitting a 6 iron off the tee box or hit a good shot in the fairway and have a look to the green and I pull out a pw and set myself for the next shot. I love golf and every thought and bit of focus it goes into. THE WAY OF THE PLAYA IS THE RIGHT WAY to truly enjoy your afternoons at the course instead of hating yourself by the 9th hole and leaving. Legit love you matty and appreciate all your uploads. You are part of my weekly golf routine. I will watch you to clear all the hoopla out of my head before rounds

    Thanks again for your most recent video, your videos have made my game so much more enjoyable and as a result I’m getting better, I’ve learned don’t punish yourself for not being perfect, use the shots you can reliably hit and be strategic to avoid trouble. At 59 my wife said "get a hobby...like golf"! I started at 60 and now 65. Been watching Matt the Playa n Chief for five years. Was first given a shrug and a 30 handicap by my home course. Typical score 105 - 115. Today my handicap dropped to 12.1 and I shot a 77, breaking 80 for the first time ever. I watch a ton of videos, but only two count... Matt for the mental and course management and Tom for technique. What you share / teach Matt is by FAR the more important. I've planted so many feathers, had many IDGAF moments, have an excel spreadsheet with a bunch of Matty Boom Boom quotes. "Thanks" seems trivial, but there you have it! Gonna play tomorrow, maybe shoot 90 :) I pay to play (not the other way around)...PLAY is the important word!

    Love the vids. The tactics you espouse have helped me shave 10 off my score over the past few months. I’ll be focussing on putting and short game over the winter, hoping to shave those unnecessary strokes I’m taking on green and within 10 yards of green. I’m enjoying golf so much more. Thx Matt PS, played with a new group this week, one gentleman was struggling and his score was taking a beating. While we’re waiting to tee off, instead of telling him to keep his head down or whatever, I just said plan for you shot shape. He did, and after three holes, he smiled after a shot and said, plan for my shot shape. I’ve got to remember that!

    Hey Matty, today I followed your path of the playa and took it easy. I wasn't really chasing a high score, but I got it. Simply by trying - at least most of the time - to stay out of trouble as you advise. Result: I played the best 18 holes of my life: a 70 on my home course, which means 2 under (I'm a 13 HCPer!). 3 birdies and 2 bogeys. On the 15th hole I started to get nervous because I was afraid I might ruin the score. But I managed to keep my head down and concentrate on making shot after shot. OK, I also had some - accidental - exceptional shots: I holed a 14-metre putt and had the confidence today to hole every ball within 2 metres - which I did, and two approach shots from 100 metres that finished 60 cm short of the flag. I can't thank you enough for your valuable advice because without it I wouldn't have played the best golf of my life today. Oh well, my go to club, my 4 wood, also ran hot again today with a median of 184m from the fairway (see my earlier comment below).

    I’m a 7 handicap and blast drives 280-330 consistently. I started golf without a driver (I used a 1-iron) and I didn’t use a 60 degree wedge or hybrids. I felt like it was common sense to get rid of the hardest clubs to hit that ended up in duffs or out of bounds. Worked on them in the range and eventually started to integrate them. Now I use the full bag 🤝🏼 that is the best advice he gave in this video. Remove those clubs, get good with the rest of the bag, practice with those tougher clubs and then introduce them back into your game slowly.

    When I finally got it after years of struggle, it was as you say rapid progress but also something very alien to the way I had been playing.
    More balance, natural, and reactionary. More Newton's 3rd law of motion: every action results in an equal and opposite reaction.
    It made the swing so automatic it felt completely unlike anything I was expecting, or did at that time, in that it felt like nothing, but 10 strokes of my hdcp in a year and hitting it better than ever are sufficient proof for me.

    hi, after taking lessons (i had a pro folloing me for 9holes) i ended up not playing my driver because i actualy dont need it to reach greens. And it's truely one of the best advice i took to play my handicap. Now i start from white markers and it's a bit tricky for certain golf courses. i would have less dangers in play if i could hit my driver with less dispertion. So i'm training with it. but sometimes i dont hesitate to play a par 4 as a par 5 if needed. Alloing myself to boggey some holes is helpfull mentaly and also scorewise because i sometimes par them with a birdie like shot. it's realy anjoyable. i do like your advises they speak to me.

    I played a new course tonight and joined a group of 4 guys- playing off the champion tees. I just started last month so I use the most forward tees usually but joined them on the back tees so it wouldn’t slow down play. After a few holes one of the guy jokingly asked if I even had a driver in my bag after seeing me use a 3 wood off nearly every tee (after measuring with my red tiger that a 3 wood would usually keep me short of all the bunkers and water hazards). The 4 guys would then head up with their drivers on every hole and top the ball or slice it out of bounds multiple times or into bunkers while I hit straight down the fairway almost every time playing boring conservative shots. Sometimes they would be at 3-4 strokes by the time they got up to where I hit my first tee shot with a 3 or 5 wood. 😂

But I played with a 4 iron off the tee (190-210 yards in play every time), had amazing approaches playing to my free throw distances, but I had 5 3 putts and some horrible chips (2 double chips). I had plenty of holes too that I one putted though (2.1 putt average per hole). Thanks for the great videos it’s time to break 90 for real!

    Thanks for this. 11.5 handicap I’m about 4 strokes worse than I was last year. I’ve been spraying it off the tee, no confidence putting, and my irons and wedges are hot or cold. Sometimes I get to the point in a round where I’m playing so bad I want it to be worse so I can have some self pity or something. It’s a terrible mindset. Ya gotta want it. I agree with taking the data with a pinch of salt, however in arccos you simply press a button when you pick you ball out of the hole and it puts the pin exactly where you press the button, this is super accurate as I’ve measured my putts to see how good it was. Most people don’t press this button though

    I had a fantastic terrible game today, I made some amazing shots and gained confidentiality off the tee, putted very well, but my iron distancé was thrown off by the damp conditions, had a blow up hole on the 8th and started shaky with a couple double bogeys. Most notably I hit my first verified 300 yard center of fairway drive and a couple 270 yard 3 wood shots, sank a 20 foot breaking putt and put my only bunker shot within 5 feet of the hole.

    Well, you've earned another subscriber. I love everything you said in this video. TBH, I'm still gonna hit my driver a lot, and take stabs at dumb shots I don't really know how to hit, though. It's just fun. BUT (and this is a big BUT), when things unravel and stop being gun, I need to fall back to this philosophy, and just "take 'er easy." If things get bad, don't continue to take bad shots.

    Matty Boom Boom! I love your videos brother. I’m looking at adding a wood to the bag (leaning 7) as I currently am only using hybrid clubs in this class. “More likely it will go a lot further and higher off the box with a slower swing speed” my question is, do you go with regular flex shaft for clubs like this or stiff? I understand everyone is different and what works for some may not work for another but what is your personal preference? Thank you for all the great content!

  • @HeyImBrim

    I find that I hit my 3 wood more reliably and straighter than I do my driver. IDK if it's the stiffer shaft or my thought of not swinging so hard with it but it's infinitely easier for me to get it in play with a 3 wood. Never tried a 7 wood

    What is the swing speed you think people need to hit a 3W? I've kept my 3W because I struggle with driver so won't pull it out until I get a lesson. I do have a lob wedge, but it's 58, not 60. Another question: how do we know when to go to less forgiving clubs? From my experience, it seems that max game improvement clubs might keep the ball straighter and higher, but have more dispersion in distance, which is important to know!
    These mental game and strategy videos are just what I need; I think I have a decent (not great) swing, but need to think my way around the course better. You are a true golf guru.

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I find the same with game improvement irons and distance dispersion.
      I changed at around average score of 80-82 about 6-7 handicap.
      I noticed the distance dispersion when i got Forged Mizuno semi blades tightened like crazy.
      3 wood, the forgiveness is not high enough in my opinion. The loft is too low for the shallowness of the face. The swing speed needed is probably 95mph + but of the grass, it hardly matters. A 4w 5w 7w are all easier to get off the ground and disperse left and right much less distance.
      16.5° is a good starting point for loft on the fairway woods. 14-15° in my opinion is too low.
      I prefer a mini driver as well. 13-14 degrees with a tall face.
      Lob wedge is a specialty club. It’s designed for tighter lies and lob shots. It might be necessary once per round. And you can do everything the lob wedge can do with a 56 degree

    • @fretless05
      @fretless05 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GolfSidekick Thanks! I'm still at a 14HC (and going down), but I don't think it's from ball striking. I've bene looking at mini drivers, but in the US, even used ones are crazy expensive. I agree with the lob wedge comment; the only reason I have one is that I live in a desert are and the fairways are often really hard, so I wanted a wedge with lower bounce for the hard fairways... I could carry two sand wedges with different bounces, though; that's an interesting thought!

      Yeah it’s a load of tripe. I’ve seen maybe two 20 handicappers putt with remotely the same touch of a scratch player. That’s in 25 years of playing. But one thing we can do is take solace in the tour pros make percentage. We can all shoot for that. It’s not too difficult

    I like a 6, 7, 8 or 9 iron approach to a green and I have become efficient with a chipper, but I am less effective with a 50 or 55° wedge. I also hate bunkers ... So I aim away from bunkers, try to give myself a line between rather than over bunkers and I am prepared to land a 9-iron short of bunkers and back my chipper to save me a putt...

    • @ianpulham3624
      @ianpulham3624 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I also attempt to follow a strategy of taking one hazard at a time. Facing water, get over the water, but don't attempt to clear the bunkers as well. Dogleg left or right, get to the middle of the corner, don't try to fade or hook it round. Leave avoiding the next hazards for the next shot. We have a par 4 where you hit over a ditch to a plateau, then the hole doglegs left across a water hazard to the next hill to a green protected by three bunkers, which you have to fade onto to get it to stick. 1 clear the ditch, 2 cross the water to the left of the green well away from the bunkers, chip on the green. Take a bogie on the toughest hole on the course any day....

Despite my low swing speed and age (86 mph, 54 y), I am able to hit my 4 Wood pretty consistently: 185m from the Tee and 180m from the Fairway with lower than 3° lateral dispersion. It was a hint from my Pro and fitter, Mike McFadden, to not buy a W3 but a W4 and the W7. Fully in line with what you say: get your ego out of the way and get a W4 /W5 and a W7.
