- Took me long enough, but I got there at last. Here is my heavily delayed review of both volumes of the Class 317 pack by Armstrong Powerhouse and GU Studios. Was it worth all the fuss? Watch until the end to find out. As this is also my first TS review in well over a year, please excuse if I sound a little rusty.
Sorry again for the lack of uploads. Life has still been very up and down, but I'm doing all I can to keep on top of other videos I have planned to appear next on the channel. Please do bear with!

I mean I ain't such a big fan for EMU's I like the 321's and (sorry to say this) I don't really think much of other EMU's these days, the most I see are the new Greater Anglia class 745's and 755s and those other bombardier replacements for the 321's, damn seats are almost painful to sit on, so rock solid and all. I'll be honest AP has taken a huge downfall, I was much looking forward to grabbing some of those cheap £5.99 sound packs, like the 57, 55 and 47, despite them being dated back quite a bit by now. I dunno if AP is worth much anymore these days. Great come back vid Yawwie! Looking forward to more fun and shirade! :P

Yeah I remember that time and I did find it a little unfair on you tbh. When it comes to motor sounds in general I have a very good ear for picking out specific details, so I knew all along about the 317 differences. Weird I know but oh well.
Honestly, this alone is why I play TPF2 instead of TS. While there are a plethora of mistakes made in some models, it's still much better and efficient than all these other DLCs TS offers, especially that TPF2's mods are free. Going off on a tangent, at first glance, I thought this was a well done pack(s), but man, all the excuses these guys pull just feel so draining to deal with, not to mention the huge waste of money from having to pay for said DLCs :v

Yeah, AP's antics have been frustrating this year. The Signal EP was not a bad addition if you ask me (though way too pricey), but Sky & Weather 2.0 and Clouds?! They could have just updated the original Sky & Weather pack!
At least the AP/Gu 317 is better than the old freeware one. I've always been of the opinion that close enough is good enough. I don't pay attention to every little detail a unit has, so I don't notice little things like the windows being the wrong size. But I will admit that the reuse of the 319 sounds was genuinely disappointing. I predicted that AP would record new sounds on 317's when the lockdowns ended, and they just didn't do it. Now they can't do it, they're all gone now.
even tho im not from the UK, i feel like it doesnt help that there isnt a heritage railway dedicated to now withdrawn electric trains. plus, asking a TOC to hire an electric train for sound recordings is probably a bit more complicated than doing the same with a diesel one. i hope to live to see the day where an historical electric railway is opened in the UK.
i like AP, i really do, but their increasing inconsistency is very VERY disappointing. and closing the comments section on FB shows how "open minded" they are. at this rate they will just surround themselves with "yes men" who will continue to give them unconditional praise. im sorry but this isnt how things are done usually. you gotta keep an open mind and learn from mistakes. and to have a set standard for their train packs and what not; might be just me but i wish all their trains were made like the Class 411. i (sort of) look forward to see how they will make other stuff like the Class 20, 45, 47, 55, 92, if they get round to them.
I feel like since the start of the pandemic, it has become virtually impossible to get proper recording sessions on mainline trains, unlike heritage trains or ones running on smaller branch lines etc. because big TOC’s simply won’t allow it.
This means that Richard is forced to use less advanced recording equipment on regular services with passengers coughing, moving about, announcement sounds etc. and make do with fairly mediocre sounds and then resample and edit them like crazy, and then recycle where possible on modern units, and why old diesel and heritage units tend to have wayyyy better sounds.

Okay hot take, I very recently got the class 317 pack Vol 1 yesterday for my birthday and one thing I have noticed is that on the ex FCC and Greater Anglia versions there is a bit of wheel slip if you go straight into notch 4 from a stand still. I mean I am planning to get Vol 2 and the class 318 at some point but not anytime soon.

3:14 class 318 has scotrail forgot to add your logo on the Side or has ap forgot about that also hi class 318 262 that has derailed in Largs also yaw you added the info of class 318 in the time of class 314
Other issues I have with the interiors is that it's entirely mirrored, and the door window shapes don't match for the 317/7.
I wouldnt be suprised if they did released the 318 it would just be a re-modelled 150

I'm disappointed in the modelling, especially where the cab fronts and imitation 317/7 are concerned. But I will say that, even though I'm a bit put out by the reused 319 sounds, I still like driving the 317/1 occasionally (don't have the 317/2 yet). I'd rather have this than the rubbish freeware model.
Further things that disappoint me are a) the omission of the 318, b) the unreasonably high price, c) AP's gradual decline in quality over time and d) the confusing decision to disable comments on his FB page. Anyone would think that he can't handle negative feedback anymore.

Fantastic video Yawwie I have missed your reviews I think the model is off and is very disappointing and 24.99 for some clouds 🤬 is just ridiculous and a money grab I mean come on if you need to look at clouds then look up to the sky. I do like the Signal pack I find it makes the game more enjoyable

I think it would do you some good to try being an MS Flight Simulator fan. £30 won't get you anything near a study level aircraft, there are occasional bargains but £25 will get you a big airport or a few city lighting enhancement packs but generally I find TSC add-ons to be pretty cheap considering the amount of work that goes into them. Your TI Glasgow to Dumblane review will be interesting, riddled with flaws and a very disappointing Class 385.
As for "all this inflation nonsense", I assume you're not the bill payer at home. Just running a modest house is 50% more expensive than it was 2 years ago so Richard, just like everyone else with financial responsibilities, will need to raise prices to continue to make a career out of his company. It's harsh on those who don't have spare cash but all hobbies are expensive, TSC for all its freeware is actually the cheapest hobby I have.
Yeah. I know TS is pretty cheap compared to other hobbies like model rail and Flight Sim as you just said, but the issue is developers always charge more for a route or train than what it's actually worth, considering a lot of the time they're are just plagued with bugs, errors, and inaccuracies that hardly get fixed (Train Sim World being another huge late example). Sadly AP have kind of joined in on that trend. The reason I find the 'inflation' reasoning hard to believe is because from what I've heard, Richard hires contractors and doesn't have any employees. I'm sure someone else can explain it better than I can but that's all I know really. Plus, don't know if I can be bothered to review the new Thomson route lol. I already knew it would be bad even though some feature look decent, and their EULA is stupid so 0 respect to that lot.
