I was never expecting anyone to dissect Endless. It's one of my favorite pieces of music period from one of my favorite games period, and your analogies were almost spot on to the context of when this plays, Death's Gambit is such a great, overlooked game, and I thank you for reacting to it.

I think Marco was on point with this one.
Death's Gambit's narrative keeps you constantly questioning what are your true reasons for fighting and seeing your quest through. And as your learn more about your character's past and the world, you can't help but wonder if it was really worth it.
Amazing video! Keep up the great work, Marco!

I'm so glad you finally did this. I recommend it to you way back when you first started this channel.
This song is an absolute masterpiece in the context of the battle. It's a roller coaster of emotions that perfectly fits
    ***SPOILERS***
How you'd feel having to go up against your own mother in a battle to the death after spending your entire adult life searching for her after she went off to war and never returned.
Death's Gambit is criminally underrated. It's one of the few games that has ever made me cry because I sympathize and care about the characters and their struggles. Everything that happens to Soran is unfair and he doesn't deserve a bit of it.
If you're going to cover more I recommend Galaxy Mage Amulvaro and Moonlit Sniper/Moonlit Strings.

  • @scp-049
    @scp-049 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I'm so glad this game is getting the recognition it deserves.
What makes me love this particular track is the amount of emotion it draws out of you.
MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR THIS EXPLANATION! (and the lore is very difficult to discern, so take everything with a grain of salt.)
Endless is your mother. She was forced to go on something called a Great Expedition, a journey to Siradon and Caer Siorai, the Cradle of Immortality, in an attempt to either capture or destroy the Source of Immortality for the nation of Vados. She promises to return, but never does. Although she doesn't die, she becomes an Immortal herself (not sure how, again the lore is not clear to my knowledge). She then seeks out to protect it, slaughtering hundreds of Vados soldiers that get sent on what is essentially a death sentence.
Her reason for this is that she wants to stop the suffering, the pain, the death that has gripped the land. She sees the Source as the means to obtain true peace among the nations. She doesn't want her son, you, Sorun, to go through the same torment that she has. In addition, the exiled god, Thalamus, crafted the lie that the afterlife was actually his realm of Y'lnoth, a land of torment and despair. She, along with all Immortals, became terrified of death. This was another factor in her plans.
Although Immortality is, in reality, more a curse than a blessing. Watching everything and everyone you love pass away and decay, while you drift further and further into despair.
It's way to difficult for me to further elaborate on why this fight is so emotional. You should go play the game and experience the story yourself.

I imagine the transitions in this track for every transition in battle phase of the actual fight. There are several phases and I think the music and the battle are tailored for each other. Especially the transition at 2:34 IIRC that's almost ALWAYS at another phase where Endless throws a ton of fireballs at you. It's a long battle and I think your interpretations are almost on-point as [SPOILERS] Endless is your mom that has taken a curse same as you. I guess also at 4:23 is a point where you (the player) are weathered, probably at 3rd or 4th stage or even almost at the end of the fight. In addition, the soundtrack hits hard because, it's a difficult fight, and at the beginning of the battle march, Endless always says 'WE were sent here, to DIE, but WE persevered!'

Marco I am so happy you are listening to Death's Gambit OST
as a composer it inspired me to take this weird journey of eliciting the same emotional response I got when I played this for the first time- I literally could barely get through the fight because of how good the motif was and how early it was established- it really built up into exactly what you said, and I heavily encourage you to listen to more of the OST and play the game- You would relate a lot to it, been a superfan since the beginning of your channel and I popped off SO HARD seeing you review that emotional rollercoaster of a song.

Even if the current TW games are plagued by problems the older titles are great. A question to you (idk if you covered this already):
Do you think that video games that are based on movies need to have the exact music as in the movies.
    Example Avatar frontiers of pandora:
There is a avatar game (James Cameron avatar)
coming from Ubisoft. Does the music need to be the exact one like James horner made or can it still have the same feelings even though it sounds different? Or Hogwarts legacy?

Created by John Williams, Duel of the Fates is one of the best orchestras presented in films. The lyrics are based on archaic fragments of the Welsh poem Cad Goddeu and sung in Sanskrit. The choir brings a ritualistic sensation, a quasi-religious feeling. You should totally listen to it 😊
