I was in the crowd for this show 8 years ago and still count this as one of those transcendent musical moments in ones life. It had been threatening to rain all day and earlier in the show, Rufus was playing the Agnus Dei and the skies opened up and down poured. It made my knees weak. One of the best moments from one of the best shows I have ever been lucky enough to be at. (I almost didn't go because of the weather...so glad that I did)
by far one of the best duos ever. they are both talented singers/pianist and i think that i am completely in love!!! blah!! this is just so fudging amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
very nice :) my singing teacher showed me this... and its very different from other singers :) bravo.. great harmony. great duet :) and my singing teacher said this is one of his favorite singers.. very different and very nice :)
This is one of the best things I have seen on TH-cam. I can listen to this over and over. I prefer it to George Michael's original. Ben Folds is superb as usual.
I love hearing harmonies like this - very rare in today's mvsic - bvt was the sovnd that MADE grovps like the Beatles... we need more of this! We have a lot of solo acts that covld pair vp and do something trvly inspiring - like this! I LOVE the expressive part of this song! Holy SMOKE... PIPING HAWWWWWT! Wow!!!
My computer had an issue that week with the "u's". Rather than completely setting my writing and projects aside - I pushed forward using the "v's". Also, have you seen the movie "V- for Vendetta" ? Some of my writing is of a political nature. Some people assumed that I was writing the "V's" for that reason.
How have I not had this in my life until now? My thoughts echo a lot of other comments I'm seeing. I was already a huge fan of both individually, but together this was just magic. I prefer this over the original, by a landslide. And the little tag on the end from Ben is so funny. Perfect youtube find.
A guy, Dan Collins, commented two years back, "What you're hearing is a strong contrast in vocal timbres... these guys are both great musicians, don't even . . .", in response to criticisms that to me seemed to be missing the mark. That was an excellent observation. This was great fun. I love seeing people put it out there and going for something different. I think some critics here just don't understand that Rufus is anything but cookie-cutter in his vocals. I LOVE that about him! He's pitch perfect and 100% give.
Your teacher has good taste in music. Supercool Ben Folds has composed some of the best music ever. The best gig I ever attended was Ben Folds Five, in Birmingham, England. Absolutely superb.
@@ResilientBiscuit I've been there to watch both play live more times than I can remember at this point. my mood dictates my preference but I just happen to find myself enjoying Ben much more frequently than Rufus.
This is great in it's own way, but I would love to hear Wainwright sing the whole song alone. Wonder what he would make out of it and it certainly suits his wonderful voice.
On a scale of one to FUCK, this song is better than EVERYTHING ELSE. It makes me want to weep and jump and laugh hysterically and roll down a hill and make love and do all of the things that make me feel alive.
As a HUGE fan of Rufus Wainwright and at least an overweight fan of Ben Folds, why am I not hearing this until 2014? It shows that I must not be vigilant enough and also that Taylor Swift is WAY, WAY more publicized than that done-def jerk needs to be. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you smart one .....all the judgement....sad ... listening with an open mind open heart.... beautiful version...they are both paying tribute to George Michael......and i thank them for this.....
This is to Sepharite, this was a free concert in Central Park in NYC a few years ago and it was on channel 7 ABC. I'm so happy to find it here since I do have it on video tape but now I can delete that !!!!
My claim to fame is that I was there for this... and Rufus offered me a cigarette later that night.
But ddi you also have chocolate milk?
@@ppeglar damnit. I should have seen that one coming. I have a lot of regrets. Le sigh.
Lucky you!
@@ppeglar ahahahahaha
Oh to be offered a cigarette by Rufus Wainwright!
Sometimes you strike gold after gold when strolling through youtube
Exactly, and this is golden.
I saw "Ben Folds" and "Rufus Wainwright" in the title, and my heart did a flippity.
Rufus can do no wrong. Sets my soul on fire. Legend.

He has such a unique voice, I love it!
I've heard Rufus Wainwright's music for a while, but I never knew how goddamn handsome he was! Bow chicka wow wow
Sorry, he's gay!
the high-pitch at 3:11 is actually VERY impressively in tune!
Two of my favorites! I love their music separately, but together? Holy shit!
My life was incomplete before hearing this. Can't believe it took me a decade to discover.
Feel good friend, for I'm another behind you.
Two decades for us
by far one of the best duos ever.

this is just so fudging amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know what's better: the banter or the song. So, so good.
I wonder how many babies were conceived at that falsetto harmony. Damn.
All of them. All the babies, past, present and future, were conceived of that high harmony.
very nice :) my singing teacher showed me this... and its very different from other singers :) bravo.. great harmony. great duet :)

This is one of the best things I have seen on TH-cam. I can listen to this over and over. I prefer it to George Michael's original. Ben Folds is superb as usual.
He's okay but the other guy is flat as hell with a weak voice.
100% agree!
I saw them sing this in Boston on this tour. What a great time!
Elton is right about Rufus. Ben is amazing too

+Cynthia Hamil You'll want to check out Milk Carton Kids; killer harmonies that get them compared to Simon & Garfunkel all the time
Wow, thanks Rob! Very cool!
Just listening to this harmony again - wow... they are really fabulous - especially when they cut loose and really belt it out.
May I ask why you why you used v's for your u's? It's sincerely bothering me. And also, yes, we definitely need more harmonies in groups.
My computer had an issue that week with the "u's". Rather than completely setting my writing and projects aside - I pushed forward using the "v's". Also, have you seen the movie "V- for Vendetta" ? from the first line i was WHIPPED i LOVE THIS COVER
The version of "Careless Whisper" that Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright did is my all-time favorite version.
Tasha Johnson-Lemjidi It's crazy but me too...what is it??
@Lucky Luke Why?
Well said. I agree. I could listen to this over and over. Ben Folds is superb as usual.
@Lucky Luke This is better than George Michael's original. Ben Folds is superb as usual.
Seether’s cover is also amazing
Very clever stuff going on with the harmonies here. Compare the 1st chorus to the 2nd chorus
You are both a tribute to the human race in just minutes, G-d Bless both, forever!
Literally, one of the best things I've ever seen. ❤️
Me too. Love supercool Ben Folds.
Incidentally, the best gig I attended was Ben Folds Five, in Birmingham, England. Absolutely superb.
You 2 live in my brain and holy fuck it’s hot
I could listen to this all day.
WHY AREN'T THEY PLAYING TOGETHER ALL THE TIME
a superlike for this one. That would be amazing!
Wainwright = Legend
This is a total guilty pleasure!!!! Ben and Rufus together?!!! Doing George Michael?!! This has totally made my day!!
Just amazing, both fab.
What a lovely cover, and Rufus is simply brilliant. Love it.
Hahaha! Ben Folds is hilarious at the end; "Yeah, me neither!" haha. Rufus, of course, is amazing.
I'll never get over this fucking clip. Geeze. These people. Musicians.
Gorgeous ❤
this song makes me think of both my parents as my mum loves Rufus Wainwright and my dad lives Ben Folds
Your parents were awesome!

Great musicians, the both of them.
Wow...I absolutely love both of these men...HOW did it take me THIS LONG to find this song?!?!
They are amazing. And while listening I couldn't help but see glam&gore dancing to this in my head.

Super gay. And by gay I mean epic.
To reclaim a word so funking magically!!!!! Linguistic justice baby!!!!

i saw them do this live years ago. LOVE this cover sooo much! thanks for posting!
A perfect song for this pairing! Finding this video made my day.
3:12 was amazing! Ben Folds is outstanding, and Rufus is an amazing singer.
Well that was cool , I only started listening to these songs since my teacher showed me Annie waits by Ben folds

oh my god. I just had listened to George Michael a bit ago TODAY tHEN I got into searching for Rufus' music. WOW. bABY I hold you.
Enfin de vrais mecs qui la chante💟
You can't invite Rufus Wainwright to a duet thinking you do it better than he!
+FletcherBeauriza
i'll take ben and his music every time but love them both!
@@adudeuknow one of these men is struggling to keep up, and one is just having a fun night. I admire them both, but Rufus is in a class of his own.

hmm, but I will love Rufus forever:) He is a total genuis.

I just discovered his song! OMG!!!!!
i love it when ben smiles.....awwww.
Wanderfull both
white people & black people got "Ebony & Irony" straights & gays get this iconic duet.
This is great in it's own way, but I would love to hear Wainwright sing the whole song alone. Wonder what he would make out of it and it certainly suits his wonderful voice.
Wow! I know George was a great fan of Rufus and Rufus is a great fan of George, A duet with him should have really happened
Just as music should be. Exciting! And I am a very old person!
This is BRILLIANT! My night is complete!
Holy shit Rufus! Unreal...
goosebumps
On a scale of one to FUCK, this song is better than EVERYTHING ELSE. It makes me want to weep and jump and laugh hysterically and roll down a hill and make love and do all of the things that make me feel alive.

LOLLOLOLOL :)
This is the greatest thing since ever. So funny.
Ben Folds is a fucking genius
A total virtuoso
Don't get me wrong I love Rufus Wainwright... but Ben Folds is in a class by himself
This made my day. No lie.
Great! The ending is almost the best ;-) and surely the funniest :-)
Why don't we just enjoy both versions, and to each their own on their 'favourite'. I like them both for different reasons.
