Just a quick note... Not all of the surrounds need removing. Just the cover on the top of the wheel. A correct screwdriver length will allow the airbag to unclip. Cheers.
Regarding how to set the air bag aside. When you put it down out of harms way, make sure that the side that normally faces the driver is pointed up towards the sky and not the other way around. That way if the airbag decides for some stupid reason to deploy it does not propel itself up in the air where it could come down on someone/something you care about.
If your synchros are toasted it’s not the end of the world. Before synchros where a thing u had to double clutch. U can still double clutch your ve and that will do all the work of the synchros so it should be easier to shift.
just a heads up: wait 90 seconds after disconnecting the battery before you work with any airbags if its the drivers airbag, after removal place it somewhere where it's obviously steady and have the emblem face top always 14:19 that's the horn wire
Im a bit disappointed. Being car youtubers im pretty sure anytime you remove/install a steering wheel going by all other videos, its supposed to be in the range of 45° off kilter. But in all seriousness, youre doing good work on the videos boys.

Ill give you guys the full 5 points for explainations. And for youtube, you guys didnt break anything by winging it and have to 'order' stuff. And the only 'fancy' tool was the t50. My torx bits only go to t25, but torx stuff is not common over here. And if it wasnt such a process, id say take the steering wheel off again, cock it 45°, do a driving video, and make the standard youtube statement that the car needs a wheel alignment. Isnt that what they all say?

Just managed to get the airbag off my VE. Tried leverage with screwdriver at first. Then, got a stubby flat head screw driver with a good broad head, put it in and twisted it instead of using leverage and it popped straight off.

with no power i didnt think it could go off. i thought you need power plus you need to hit the sensors dont you? wich are inbetween the headlight and grill. i maybe wrong please correct me if im wrong.

Very helpful, handy tip also the column is telescopic and pull out with the adjuster under the coloum. Saved taking the trim parts off

Have never replaced the vf steering wheel but would assume that it isn't too different 👍
If you use steering column adjustment steering wheel will telescope out giving more space.

They have a capacitor in them, they can go off after power removed, capacitor needs to power down, hence waiting after disconnecting the battery
