    Imagine how these MEN were so brave. You know that your going to be fighting hand to hand combat and pray your sword shoulder doesn't tear a tendon in the middle of this battle. These guys were tough men.

      I am Muslim. Salahuddin told the captive Christians to become Muslims. When Christians refused, Salahuddin said he would kill you. He killed many Christian prisoner of war. Muslims enslaved many Christians. Christians worked as slaves until their death. Salahuddin has also destroyed much of Christ's legacy.
      He also looted what is believed to be the cross of Christ. Because Salahuddin couldn't beat Richard.I have been studying Crusaders for a long time. I don't think Richard is a bad guy. He was very kind to the fifth sultan, al-Kāmil. al-Kāmil is the eldest son of Saladin's younger brother, al-Ādil.
      When Richard won the last fight with Saladin and was in peace talks,Richard has appointed Al-Kamil, as a knight. Richard himself himself ordained him as a knight. Al-Kamil, was very pleased. Richard presented him with a respectable sword as a celebration. Al-Kamil, preserved the sword very carefully. Al-Ādil, the fourth sultan, was close to Richard.Al-Ādil is Saladin's younger brother. Richard and al-Ādil have negotiated many times. After the meeting with al-Ādil, Richard dispatched several guard knights to safely deliver al-Ādil. Richard was very kind to al-Ādil.Richard wanted him to marry his sister and become a Christian. al-Ādil said it couldn't. Salahuddin laughed at the story.Richard wants him to return our holy land and has said we do not want to kill Muslims. It's about the murder of 2500 Muslims in Akon. Richard did not want to kill 2500 Muslim prisoners.Salahuddin was able to actually pay the ransom. Richard has preserved his prisoners for a week since the promised day. This is because Salahuddin did not save 2500 POWs.Richard's men killed 2,500 Muslims in the least painful way. Saladin has abandoned 2500 Muslims. In addition, after returning to Europe, Richard is caught and imprisoned by bad guys. The bad guys tried to put Richard on trial. The bad guy tried to judge Richard for killing King Jerusalem. But Richard did not kill King Jerusalem. At that time, Islamic assassin groups saved him. They sent a letter stating that Richard was innocent. This saved Richard.Richard was saved by the Islamic assassin.Richard was a man who kept his promise. Richard signed peace with Sarahudin. Salahdin died after Richard returned to Europe. Richard was able to break peace and attack Jerusalem. However, Richard kept his promise. Jerusalem was peaceful. Richard forgave the archer who caused his death. Richard also forgave the betrayed brother and subordinate.We Muslims believe that Richard is a kind king. Before he got married, Richard had a relationship with a woman and had children. Richard was also associated with more than six women. He was a king who loved women.

      When Richard last fought Saladin, Richard's soldiers were one tenth of Saladin. Richard used 20 horses. Saladin had 2,000 horses. If Richard lost in this battle, Richard's army was wiped out. But Richard won the battle.

    Did this in a tabletop campaign a few years ago in 10mm. Lack of proper cooperation by the crusader leaders got them well and truly thumped. As did their failure to try to reach a settlement with the Byzantines first.

    Great job! Something I could see it would enhance the video: do a little extra explanation about the phases of combat, throwing some details here and there. Without context as to what is happening, the casual observer might think that the Crusaders were being decimated by arrows, but, while the harassing was persistent, it didn't cause a great amount of casualties. Heavy armour and defensive formations handled it just fine; a Muslim chronicler reports how Christians with up to ten arrows sticking out of their body were marching unmolested. By contrast, European crossbowmen took a toll on Saladin's cavalry archers.
    And stuff like that.
    Keep up the good work!

      The Real History of the CrusadesThe crusades are quite possibly the most misunderstood event in European history. Most of what passes for public knowledge about it is either misleading or just plain wrongBy Prof. Thomas F. MaddenMisconceptions about the Crusades are all too common. So what is the truth about the Crusades? Scholars are still working some of that out. But much can already be said with certainty. For starters, the Crusades to the East were in every way defensive wars. They were a direct response to Muslim aggression-an attempt to turn back or defend against Muslim conquests of Christian lands.
      From the safe distance of many centuries, it is easy enough to scowl in disgust at the Crusades. Religion, after all, is nothing to fight wars over. Christians in the eleventh century were not paranoid fanatics. Muslims really were gunning for them. While Muslims can be peaceful, Islam was born in war and grew the same way. From the time of Mohammed, the means of Muslim expansion was always the sword. Muslim thought divides the world into two spheres, the Abode of Islam and the Abode of War. Christianity-and for that matter any other non-Muslim religion-has no abode. Christians and Jews can be tolerated within a Muslim state under Muslim rule. But, in traditional Islam, Christian and Jewish states must be destroyed and their lands conquered. When Mohammed was waging war against Mecca in the seventh century, Christianity was the dominant religion of power and wealth. As the faith of the Roman Empire, it spanned the entire Mediterranean, including the Middle East, where it was born. The Christian world, therefore, was a prime target for the earliest caliphs, and it would remain so for Muslim leaders for the next thousand years.
      With enormous energy, the warriors of Islam struck out against the Christians shortly after Mohammed's death. They were extremely successful. Palestine, Syria, and Egypt-once the most heavily Christian areas in the world-quickly succumbed. By the eighth century, Muslim armies had conquered all of Christian North Africa and Spain. In the eleventh century, the Seljuk Turks conquered Asia Minor (modern Turkey), which had been Christian since the time of St. Paul. The old Roman Empire, known to modern historians as the Byzantine Empire, was reduced to little more than Greece. In desperation, the emperor in Constantinople sent word to the Christians of western Europe asking them to aid their brothers and sisters in the East.That is what gave birth to the Crusades. They were not the brainchild of an ambitious pope or rapacious knights but a response to more than four centuries of conquests in which Muslims had already captured two-thirds of the old Christian world. At some point, Christianity as a faith and a culture had to defend itself or be subsumed by Islam. The Crusades were that defense.

    A lot of people here has never read history. Richard could have absolutely taken Jerusalem, the military orders of the Templars and Hospitallers advised him otherwise because they lacked the people to hold the city for a long time. Richard was much better than Salahuddin, and the latter even admitted he has met his match to Lionheart.

    Excellent voice of narrator. I would want more explanation throughout the video; you could still have music a bit quieter in background as narrator explains more of the battle details. Also, maps would help as well as battle strategy diagrams, etc. Tone down the blood & "comet trails" & weird dust bursts as soldiers get hit, etc.

    It would be nice if in your videos we could see the tactics that the generals used throughout the battle. There are many accounts of different flanks falling and retreating or generals making snap decisions which turned the tide of the battle. If you and a friend were in multiplayer and you planned out the battle I believe you could really enhance the quality of your videos by showing how the battles were won.

    • @SandokanBattles
      @SandokanBattles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I was thinking about showing battle like that, and maybe I try in the future, but I choose to show them in movie style, just to be good to watch and teach a little, but not to much, it will be boring, I think. Besides It's much more difficult to show battle with tactics

    • @OCinneide
      @OCinneide 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand that, I like how it is now but after reading books on some of the battles it can be disheartening to see the general's tactics left out. One good example was the battle of Carrhae, I believe you done that very well!

      {Apology for Long Post - I got carried away The Crusdaes are fascinating.}They never met (its a pity), there was talk of one of Richard's Sisters marrying Saladin, would have been interesting if that had happened, although their styles were very different, they had many similar problems. After Acre fell, it was interesting that Saladin tested Richard, by promising the return of the "True Cross" which had been taken and apparently destroyed during the destruction of the Church of the holy Sepulchre, but then never delivered it. It bought a month of vital time for Saladin, at the expense of the lives of the 5,.000 Turkish prisoners, who were to be returned on its delivery. I wonder if Phillip (Richard's half/step brother, and original head of the Siege of Acre) would have done the same thing, I have a feeling he would have mucked it up. As it was, Agnes (Phillip's Sister) had 8 years earlier married Alexius Comnenus II, and Richard was left backing the dull incompetent "Guy of Lusignon", and the disaster that would be the Battle of Hattin 1187 was in the making, which would be the cause the 3rd Crusade. Richard failed to take Jerusalem, but he did negotiate rights for Christian pilgrims to travel there again. Saladin was probably glad to have his disparate forces not be at each others throats, and he declared Jerusalem to be Islam's third city, as part of a long range plan to wrest control of it back. "Drive them out, as they drove you out" to quote the Koran, which quizzically never addressed the point of "what if you kicked "
      them out first."

    Right - well that was 7 m,inutes of computer generated artistic license that Ill never get back.
    This reenactment was like the Monty Python sketch where a dozen old ladies recreated famous battles by raucously fighting with handbags in a big puddle of Mud.
    Arsuf was a fascinating battle, yet another example of the amazing leadership of Richard Lionheart, and how he managed to maintain cohesion, with the Hospitalers pulling one way and the Knights of Saint John doing something else. He united the forces, which had been spread after 2 days(?) of Marching and made a massive charge that wiped out many of the attacking Mohammedans. Had he timed it wrong, his forces would have been wiped out.

      @Noah Pritchett What a profoundly sad confession. Having pride over one's nation of birth is just as stupid as expressing pride over one's skin color. Accidents of birth are nothing to be proud of. True pride should be reserved for personal accomplishments and creative endeavors, not for things over which you had zero choice, such as where you were born and your ethnic heritage.

    • @DEPARTMENTOFREDUNDANCYDEPT
      @DEPARTMENTOFREDUNDANCYDEPT 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Noah Pritchett I agree, skin color is meaningless and nothing over which to be "proud." It is just one of many things which are simply accidents of birth which I regard as silly as objects of pride. As I stated previously, the only legitimate things which deserve expressions of pride from an individual (or a group, for that matter) are ACHIEVEMENTS, ACCOMPLISHMENTS, and CREATIONS, the results of training, education, effort, and devotion.

    The crusades were not an evil aggression by Christians as the media has twisted history to now say. Just the fact that Christians were not even allowed to worship safely in Jerusalem tells you how “loving, peaceful, and tolerant” Islam was. It took an army an a treaty to force Islam to act in a remotely decent manner!

    Good point about the Saracen arrows not penetrating Christian armour - but the arrows were taking out horses and non-armoured personnel (pages, cooks, followers etc). One thing that was missed (that perhaps would be interesting to insert) was that the Christians rode on big strong boy horses. The Saracens rode fast athletic girl horses. So when the Christian knights charged - a 1000+ boy horses upon seeing 100s and 100s of good looking girl horses were thinking “oh yeah!!”. On the other hand the girl horses were thinking ….. that isn’t documented … but many brave Saracens ended up fighting over their shoulder with no choice of their own.
