Youssou N'Dour is from Senegal in West Africa where French is it's official language. He first became prominent when he started working with Peter Gabriel in the 80s on such tracks as in your eyes and shaking in the tree.
FROM WHAT IS GARNERED HERE IS THAT WHEN A CHILD IS BORN ,IT DOES NOT HAVE THE HANGUPS AND ALL THE CRAP THAT IT WILL PICK-UP, AND THE PREJUDICE THAT IT WILL ABSORB AND ADOPT FROM FRIENDS ,FAMILY AND OTHERS IN LATER LIFE THAT WILL MAKE IT TO BECOME A PIECE OF CRAP THAT WILL NOT EVEN LOVE ITSELF. - A SONG OF SADNESS.
This was my era lads ( showing my age lol) but way back then I researched the song's meaning. 7 seconds is how long it takes for a newborn fresh from childbirth to know its mother's smell and bond with her. It's also an anti-racism song which makes it even a huger classic IMO.
Love how you're laughing at the consonant sounds of Wolof sounding Scouse (can of coke), and then when she starts singing you're just silent listening to the beauty. The harmony of those two vastly different voices is incredible.
