Carrie should have won Idol on her audition day. But Idol couldn't do that. They needed the whole season to make money. They tried to include drama into that season, but fans knew Carrie was going to win all along.
Lionel would probably have to do it. Carrie is simply to humble to ask Lionel to do a duet with her. Carrie would say she isn't a worthy duet partner for Lionel.
Carrie caught the audience completely off guarded by walking to the judges desks. Judges knew Carrie was going to do that. Which is why Luke was trying to keep a straight face when Carrie started the performance.
As all three judges said. Carrie is the best example of turning Idol winning into career as a singer successful. Music industry isn't going to come and get you. You must prove it to them, you can do it. Music industry in Nashville didn't want Carrie at all. Carrie by how good she is, force Nashville hand. Nashville wanted her fan base of 20 million fans, but didn't want Carrie. And Carrie's fan base said no Carrie, no fan base. Which is why Nashville musical brass are still pissed at Carrie to this day.
