    Please please please make more of these videos on jumps and other elements or moves!! I’m an adult learner and your videos are the most explanatory and thorough I’ve seen!! I really really appreciate how you detail what part of the blade we must put pressure on. That’s what I struggle with most in all my skating.

      Thank you so much! :) What kind of jumps and spins are you working on? I plan on making more videos regarding jumps and spins. I have some in the pipeline coming up soon!

      Shelly Skates oh my, thanks so much! I’m working on back scratch spin (newest move) and still trying to really get my sit spin and scratch good so I’ve been watching this video a lot. I spin too far on my toe pick and I just can’t get the right feel 😣 I’m struggling with getting my loop jump most of all right now. 😊

      @@n.k.4481 When it comes to spinning that toe pick is a pain at times! Maybe I should do a video on ways to not spin on the toe pick or exercises to help prevent that. Try going to the wall, hold onto it and stand flat on your feet and then slowly rock up to the part of your blade that you are to spin on. Pay attention to where on your foot you want to spin. When you do your spin, the movement from the middle of your blade (on entry) to the ball of the foot is very minimal.

      Shelly Skates thanks so so much! I really appreciate it! I will definitely try that and I will update you on how I’m doing 😊😊

    I first learned this as the same time when I started learning Waltz jump December last year. Then I could do Waltz jump but could not spin. Then I learned salchow, and I could do salchow but could not spin. Then came toeloop, loop, and flip and yes today I still could not spin. It's really discouraging. I just really could not understand when is the exact point to start bringing my free leg forward. If I bring too early, I will spin on outside edge and quickly throw myself out of the spin. If I wait til after I feel the three turn, I cannot bring my leg forward at all. However, I do find all of your videos helpful and help me learn many elements. Keep the videos coming. Thanks a lot !

      Maybe try to bring your leg forward as your doing the 3 turn. Maybe that will help with the timing. If you wait too long it is more difficult to bring it in front.

    I have difficulty bringing my free leg around after the entry...as soon as I start to move it forward I lose balance.....

    • @ShellySkates

      That does happen a lot. There is a lot of force with the spin and when we do bring around that foot, it can cause us to lose balance. Really try to tighten the core as you bring your leg around and keep tension in your free leg to make sure your muscles are engaged. Another thing I would try is to maybe ease up on the push into the spin if you are having difficulty getting that leg around

    Thank you!!! Definitely gonna try it with just the leg crossed at the knee when I skate this afternoon.

      Let me know how it goes! That is definitely the "awkward" part of the spin usually. Then once you get comfortable with that, slowly get that heel from the knee to the ankle. Then once you get the hang of it you can move faster. Keep the hips and shoulders square.

    Excellent. Thank you! Going to work on those exercises.

    One thing I also notice is that your body is doing the "hollow posture" from gymnastics. I think I arch my back and don't tuck my hips in enough.
    I also notice your leg when crossing: your femur /thigh comes up at first when crossing, which I think helps with placement of the ankle across the knee without getting a rotational acceleration at that awkward part. I need to remember trying this next time I practice.
    I feel am stink eyed at my rink because I can spin fast but I travel significantly and don't take private lessons yet but finished all the group free skate classes and specialty group classes. I just am afraid of commitment to a coach (similar to dating probelms too). I don't go everyday either.

    You make it look so easy! :D Rinks are closed so I'm trying to learn this on my spinner at home (adult beginner). I fall off way too early to even come close. But until I go back I'm so thankful for your resources!

      Sometimes those spinners can be tricky! Just take your time, you got this! 🙂

    Yaaassss! Thanks for posting! :) Super helpful to just do the spin piece by piece to get used to it!

    • @ShellySkates
      @ShellySkates  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! If you just take it one step at a time your body will get used to it as time goes on! Glad it was helpful!

    I really struggle with spins in general so this helped a lot. I've been struggling with loop and toe loop and can't seem to find any videos, maybe you could make one? (Maybe you have one and I can't find it for some reason haha)

      I will be breaking down the jumps for sure in future videos! 🙂

    Can you explain entry from back crossovers and stepping into the LOE? I am trying to get this but my brain isn't computing just by watching the entry. Your vids are great, explaining piece by piece! Glad I found your channel.

      Thats actually a really good suggestion for a video. I am definitely going to make one talking about the backward crossover entry into the spin!

    It's too lucky to see your video when I am learning scratch spin! By the way, how can I solve the problem of losing balance when I put my free leg down or pull my hands back?

    • @ShellySkates
      @ShellySkates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How is your free hip when you are putting the foot down? Sometimes I notice when I slide down the foot, that my free hip starts to drop or come forward which will throw you off balance. Instead of focusing on crossing so much, just focus on the heel crossing your skating leg and let the free hip stay in place.
