Corner of My Eye is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, Sam’s lyrics always seem to manifest pain into a sentient being and force you to acknowledge it in a really engaging way.
Was looking for this comment - it's my favourite song on the album and potentially my favourite Future Islands song in general. Those lyrics are heart-rending and beautiful at the same time. Just perfect.
Yes! So glad you liked this one. I found the band with "the far field" a year or two ago on a spotify recommendation, and was bored by that album even internally. Really did not expect this jump in quality from the band, but I have been absolutely loving this album the past few days.
Nicely said! It's been a fantastic lead up with single releases too! Deep In The Night is definitely their most intimate, emotional yet anthemic, and powerful track to date. The midpoint of this LP is just packed with fresh and original sounds from them, but also in general (for me at least). Just an utterly gorgeous display of soundscaping and narrative.
Man the fact that you shouted out 'Young Turks' is wild, I loved that song as a kid in the 80's and haven't heard it so long. I saw Future Islands last year with Weezer and I was very impressed by their live presence, haven't followed their album output much so I might have to go back then check out some of their other albums.
I'm a death metal guy who used to go to a lot of live shows but Samuel from Future Islands was the most intense, vaguely frightening singer I ever met. That whole night was weird.
loved the single releases as they approached the album release. king of sweden is a banger. but had to hit pause multiple times my first playthrough it was so moving as a cohesive unit with all the themes of grief, the loneliness in adulthood, and hitting emotional obstacles
Funny. I sent my son a song by Cannons last year and said “Future Islands with female vocalist …”. FI is my current fav band. Saw them live last year-amazing-and have tix for this tour as well. Can’t get enough!
i basically had the same reaction to this: i was never crazy about future islands. But the sound of this album blew me away. its the first time their musical ideas have resonated with me
been a Future Islands fan since 2010. i'll admit my interest waned with the last couple of albums, however this brought me back into the fold. My feelings are very much in sync with Anthony's and i'm happy to see this get a strong score. I really appreciate the Rod Steward "Yung Turks" comparison too. Was listening to that earlier this year and thought "with Sam's vocals and no other changes, this could be a Future Islands song."
Great review and I'm glad you mentioned poor production because there is a flat harshness to a couple of their albums that makes them sound a little ragged. This one sounds smoother and a bit more fruity in the bass. The Thief is a good example with a thudding bass drum kick, and Sam's low notes are really beautiful.
Saw them live last night and they sounded fantastic! The Tower and The Thief both were highlights of the setlist. Sam’s vocals on Long Flight and Tin Man also still top notch giving me chills. If you have the chance to see this band live, do not miss it!
Loved the album, saw the release show in London where they played it in it's entirety, which solidified it as their best release for me. All technical sound improvements aside it's seems like the the lyrics and delivery are just so much more emotionally driven, which is saying something given how much their lead man was already giving
I found out about them in mid 2022 after my aunt committed S**cide and my sister had a mental health episode leaving me to take care of my nephew for 6 months. Its a very impactful album that really huts hard. Bring Me The Ghost Back is beautiful and hits close to home.
Not listened to the full album yet, But "The Fight" is definitely the song that made me want to check out more Future Islands, I'd heard a bit of their stuff before, But it wasn't until I heard that one that I was like "Damn, This is excellent. I'mma checkout more."
i might give this a try i feel like i only really try artists i already like so maybe listening to an album that gets a positive review from fantano that i dont know anything about might be a fun thing to do this year (realistically i will entirely forget like my "listen to all of his top 100 albums of the 2010s list" thing i wanted to do but whatever)
I got to catch Future Islands live last year when I saw Weezer and instantly became intrigued, so I’m glad to see they still have something to offer creatively .
I saw them at Gov Ball 2021. Samuel Herring is quite possibly the best frontman I’ve ever seen live. Both in his voice and the passion he brings to performing.
@@mndr1983 here in Greenville NC when they were still under, Art lord and the self portraits. That was around the same time the Avett brothers were here at ECU & performing here aswell
is it just a theme with 2024, or is Fantano doing some colour play here. because this is four yellow album covers in a row (and i love it, coincidence or not)
What do you think of The Last Dinner Party's debut "Prelude to Ecstasy"? Not sure how much they've kicked off across the pond but they're getting a lot of attention over here in UK (deservedly imo)
Love Future Islands but I've been putting this one off, well, because, one trick pony? (But we embrace them!) Maybe that's had me a little lazy. Still such an enduring and cool band. You must be an influencer because I'm now influenced to giddy up on the present Future Islands train. Your job is done.
You should review the recent Jonas brothers albums, “happiness begins” and “The Album”, they’re great pieces of art that are well sung, well produced and did rlly well commercially, they are celebrated on “the tour”, North American leg of which started in Yankees stadium and just ended
First time hearing these guys and I've only heard a few tracks, but it kind of sounds like what would happen if Robert Pollard from Guided by Voices fronted MGMT and it's kind of amazing
I feel like album is proof that i dont just get my opinions from anthony, but we actually share a lot of the same values because i am not jelling with this album at all and if it were the case id be forcing myself to like it
I always knew Future had a yellow flannel quality album in him. So proud.
He had to colab with Islands, tho. I don't know how much credit he can really get for this.
Great to know him and the island boys make such a fire collab
another lame ass incel joke
Cover of KC's Islands album
lame incel comment
I feel the same way Anthony, I’m so happy we agree! I can’t wait to give this one a listen!
I still haven’t forgot about the Wall of Eyes thumbnail dude

It’s perfect so it’s done
I’ve never heard future island till this review. These niggas slap. I like the tower. Thank you Anthony.
if you've never heard Seasons (waiting on you) go do it like right now
@@agusohyeah imma check now!
You gotta go see ‘em live. Dance party

Just go listen to the whole Singles album. That's such a great one! +fall from grace song near the end of the album hits hard
Yellow flannel on a Future Islands album let's goo
Suprise 8 outta nowhere for Future Islands
Good for them
Man, Corner of My Eye is so beautiful
Big W from the 🐐. I’ve been following Future Islands since In Evening Air and this one is likely to go down as their most towering achievement
I see what u did there
Hell yeah an 8! I loved this album!
They finally break the 8 ceiling! Well deserved!

Turks by Rod Stewart is one of my favorite albums of the 80s so I am excited to hear this new album
Will always show up for Future Islands doing their thing, really enjoyed this one

This album was my first introduction to the band, and probably my 2nd favorite album that dropped in January!
As Owen Wilson once famously said ~ Wow
This is the type of album with songs so good I feel like I have been listening to them for years
I'm a death metal guy who used to go to a lot of live shows but Samuel from Future Islands was the most intense, vaguely frightening singer I ever met. That whole night was weird.
saw him open for Modest Mouse at Red Rocks. Dude kept sprinting across the stage and almost injured himself
Same, his passion for what he’s doing is akin to what we see in metal.
@@brad7053That's so fucking funny, he really does do his letterman performance everytime
loved the single releases as they approached the album release. king of sweden is a banger. but had to hit pause multiple times my first playthrough it was so moving as a cohesive unit with all the themes of grief, the loneliness in adulthood, and hitting emotional obstacles
Minus the vocals, this album reminded me a lot of stuff that Cannons would do

I may give this a try. 'Singles' was a brilliant album and one of the follow-up albums that I bought was more than useful.
King of Sweden is one of the best singles of the decade.

For Sure, Thrill, Hit the Coast, Peach are some great songs to check out too!😊
I really enjoy this album! I've never been a fan of Future Islands, but this has changed my mind.
The Steely Dan vibe on the album cover is compelling… will give this a listen
What did you think
glad to hear that FI is back to their old dance pop bangers! cheers bud for the review
Jump in quality? Then this will be an album of my life, I adore them
Looks like a parquet courts album cover
Review a Hemlock Ernst project, Fantano. It blows my mind that this guy is also an otherworldly rapper.
We appreciate your insights. You’ll always have our support.
Thankyou, been waiting for you to review this

Been a fan for quite some time now. There is absolutely some of their best work on this album. And the production does indeed slap..
Future islands FINALLY getting the respect they deserve
thank you, fantano, for introducing me to their music. i've been enjoying this album very much.

Nice to see that you're a fan! I feel like this band isn't all that acclaimed.
This album is a gem. Been listening to it all day
Actually so proud of the boys since the day I discovered YOU(MELONMAN) was when I was looking up reviews of these guys and Harlem of all bands lol
For some unknown reason this video is not on the loved list playlist
Say Goodbye, The Thief and King of Sweden are fighting it out for my song of the year so far…amazing record
The Thief & KIng of Sweden are 🔥
I like the art of this album
I have missed them ❤
Love Sam looking like someone who works at Ikea, but singing like his life depends on it.
You forgot to put this in the Loved category
Hey Fantano, any chance of a review of Violator by Depeche Mode next classics week?
seaaasons changeeee
you should review "Black Bear" by the Pine Neadles, really small band but I think they deserve some love
Totally agree on this. Future Islands not doing anything different, just top to bottom better than anything so far. Well deserved score
Love this album. Been a banger since the singles dropped, bought tickets to see them last night!
I saw them touring last year with Weezer, and the performances were crazy

This record is amazing. AMAZING.
Oh my god I love it, the vocals was weird. I kept imagining Alastor Moody sang this lol.

REVIEW TAPIR!
Do the vinyls on the shelf ever change?
This is a great musical start to the year
All of their albums are great, so many bangers, and yet none of them can touch Wave Like Home’s insanity
Future Island is most motherF#+&ing deserving of yellow flan!
I'd say it's the best of all their allbums so far. And in my oppinion I'd say Iris is the best song they ever wrote.
Damn you surprise me melon. I love Future Islands but imagined you'd very much characterise them in the safe-cool-alt-dad-rock bracket.
Just discovered a great new album by Daudi Matsiko "The King of Misery" highly recommend it 👌
Best future islands album since singles
First time hearing these guys and I've only heard a few tracks, but it kind of sounds like what would happen if Robert Pollard from Guided by Voices fronted MGMT and it's kind of amazing
production is good, but i can't stand the vocal so i didn't finish the album.

Why am I not in your favoriteSee this album in the playlist.
This week has been very yellow, in both flannel and album cover. Rainbow era Fantano incoming?
such a good record, but to me ''as long as you are'' is their masterpiece
The underwhelming production on the earlier albums is really apparent after seeing them live.
Album is stellar. Definitely deserves to be on the best of 24 list.
Outside the tower and say goodbye, I wasn’t too crazy on this sadly.
Best album of the year so far for me!
