I was gunna say the same thing. I love it when parents actually make kids look them in the eye when they don’t want to. Whether it’s disobedience or just a gentle correction. It’s so important to do that and not give up though giving up and letting it slide is easier.

I feel bad for the older kids and what they’ve experienced but at some point you’ve got to break the cycle with your own kids.
Joel is a nice name. That would have been my pick, however you both handled Gideon so well. I like that you acknowledged his feelings & didn't make him feel foolish for having them. You both are great parents. Also letting Evelyn experience some regression. It is hard on young kids when a new member of the family gets so much attention. Everything will settle down eventually.
