Jabs? Sombra is a stealth cunt that does stabs not jabs like a straight hero.
For those of you who are numbers/stat nerds:
Sombra virus always does 100 dmg over time
Impact damage is 10 on an unhacked target and 20 on a hacked target
So:
Virus on unhacked target: 110 (10 on impact & 100 over 4 seconds)
Virus on hacked target: 120 (20 on impact & 100 over 2 seconds)
Basically, hacking first doubles the impact damage and halves the time for the DOT to take place.
No, it is 100 damage over time, plus the impact damage which, assuming the target isn’t backed, is 10, for a total of 110 damage to a non hacked target.
She is very powerful in the lower elos. Insane TTK with the virus

@@jackhayman4853only thing to nerf is her 1.5 second TTK hack virus combo. Because it really is pretty OP in 1v1 situations. Once supports get nerfs sombra will very likely be a BIG problem. S tier pretty easily.

@@aSuperPi.That's the thing, she seems pretty mid while we are in a meta with strong backline, imagine when they get nerfed, she has the potential to be the strongest dps if they mess it up.
I feel like for Widows it's just better to virus shoot. The hack alerts them long enough to get a reaction and you'll still burst her down since she's 175 hp. Same with Zen.

Id say it depends on if you think the supports are gonna get to them in time. If theyre not gonna get healed in those 4 seconds you could literally just shoot them to half health and walk away
@@tsoewoein my experience experience,hacking takes 0.25 or so and makes its very distinct sound so supports turn immediately and gives widow more time to react.I like to either virus headshot her when she scopes or even start with the headshots if she is completely still she dies to 11 bullets which is nothing
It's precisely 0.65 seconds to cast +0.4 seconds recovery time. But the extra 2 seconds is an eternity for higher rank supports to react to just virus.
@@mega17 respectfully,if you’re trying to assassinate the widow next to the supports,you need to kill her fast,hacking wastes time and is VERY noticeable.Virus headshots in my experience is the best way to do it(or if shes still plain headshots)
If you want to be extra evil,once you assasinate a dpe like ashe or bation(best ones imo).After 6 seconds or so you can run to the enemy spawn and catch them coming back for the easiest elim ever,it does force a 4v4 somewhat but they have more impact than you,plus it tilts the absolute MIND out if them.
It also helps you get people off of a problematic hero sometimes. They have a Bastion that's melting your tank? Trap him in spawn until he swaps😊.

He'd lose in diamond lobbies because supports cross heal and are attentive to it. Sombra is pretty worthless right now at any rank above Plat.

some weeks ago i played sombra, trained every day and really like her, my primary targets are, bastions, hanzo, widow, ashe and then heals. its so much fun when you destroy enemy widow that carry the match ^^
Another great guide Sam! I picked up Sombra this season after hardly ever playing her and have a 70% winrate and am on my way to Masters for the first time ever!
When I play Sombra in ranked they will go kirko and lifeweaver and constantly save whichever player I'm going for. Bait out suzu but they still have a lifegrip and vice versa. I found I have to play higher burst damage heroes like widow/ hanzo and ashe to get any value this season. She can still work great for that first team fight before they all switch and hard counter you I guess. Not nearly as one trickable as before. I think tracer is kind of in the same situation.

I've also found when ambushing scoped in Ana, Ashe and Widow, to virus out of stealth first then hack, as most are getting better at reacting to the hack making harder to hit virus, often i can virus them with no reaction until I hack or shoot.
most people react to the audio of sombra de-stealthing, sometimes it goes past them and u get away with it but if your close enough for the kill they will hear you de-stealth before you get a hack or virus off, thats just my experience though

It sucks that the 1v1s are so polarising depending on the character.
Although if you have the option to not take the engagment, I feel like its reasonable to have backliners that dont get burst so easily. Especially in a case like sombra where you cant consistently deter her engagement.
It surprises me to hear that lucio is a primary support target for sombra, given hes all I play.
Also Illari, really. I get the turret disrupts the burst consistently, but other than that, her low rate of fire seems reasonably outplayable, at least on paper.
I can understand Kiri being an annoying matchup, because shes both threatening, and is under low risk in the duel. Id say itd be fairer if she could only be one of those things, as support should have an option to not be reliably assassinated when peel isnt available.
The way I think about it is if you exclusively can opt in to the duel, and the defender hasnt wasted key CDs, survival shouldn't be a prevellige, the kill potential should be.
Maybe the problem with that at the moment is that duels conclude so fast at the moment with how high all stats are, it feels like youre not even worth the backline distraction.
I feel like nerfing damage, then nerfing healing more than we nerf damage, would calibrate a lot of annoying polarising effects we have at the moment.
Like being worth the attention in the backline. Also utility, being stat amplifiers in most cases, get an indirect nerf from this.
Illari low rate of fire? A great hitscan player will easily 2 tap you.
Gm1 main lucio here as well, I can consistently duel sombras and most times that they come for me, they end up dying, just amp to negate all virus damage (the amp buff is beautiful) and as long as you ADAD right and hit your shots, after she tries to escape you can chase her down and kill her very easily

Its 100 Damage for the DoT
- 4 Seconds Non Hacked
- 2 Seconds Hacked
Impact Damage is different:
-10 Impact on Non Hacked
-20 Impact on Hacked.
90 damage over time

I kinda agree and disagree. I mainly go for supports to make them use cooldowns and get out. If I go for dps, they got pocketed without abilities being used.
I cant believe they actually balanced something better. Sombra went from a low skill annonying zzzz hero to a more balanced assasin style character. Who cant just get out of jail free any more. She can destroy certain squishys if they play alone but she has some exploitable weakness

Well, you can also change direction as you’re falling and you know the time to come invisible again it’s short enough to do your trans locate up. You will become invisible on the you know at the heat the peak of your year up and then you can just fall to some other location so they can’t hit you with a random bullet, that’s why you do that. Not to mention there’s always things to get on top of the cut line of site to ensure that even if you’re still visible, they can’t hit you which means you’re going invisible.
Does the new DPS passive change how you play Sombra?
I have to disagree on tracer,her blink cancels your hack and she can(and will)chase you down if there is now highground.Ive played it and it’s def not a great matchup

I have been playing sombra like this ever since the season started but when I tried to share my thoughts with fitz and his comment section tried to make fun of me even though it looked like fitz was struggling with his play style
Honestly ngl I’m struggling too with this new play style a little. Like I’m always getting greedy with my kills like I used too and sometimes I don’t think about other characters in the enemy team. Like today we was on a map and my team had to get and move the payload. It was hard mostly because a widow and a torb was on high ground and everytime i tried going for the widow it was either torb or Kirko getting me one time even the Lucio came in and all 4 got me. And now I’m thinking to myself maybe I should have gone for the torb and if kirko shows up I teleport out to act as an distraction. But I was getting frustrated so I was not thinking correctly. And even also sometimes I was in games where there was a bastion or 2 tanks, one of them being rammtra (sorry for some of my bad spelling) and I would attack the rammtra with my tank and other dps. And sometimes I had no tank and just had to deal with rammtra and I was always dying and I was confused with what I had to do because no one else could deal with him. Situations like this is why I get frustrated and just go the whole game without thinking. Also bastion is pretty annoying sometimes and torb too with his turret because it feels like I have to focus with more than one thing at a time. And sometimes I even deal with my stats being higher than my teammates and idk if I’m doing my job correctly or am I making us lose the game with always going for picks and 1v1s. I really only do that when I feel like my tank or team is not doing anything.😭😭😭
Oh yeah and there was one game where I was dying a lot because I was always trying to 1v1 another sombra but I got her sometimes but I also felt like me going for her all the time made my team lose because I was really only focusing on if she would attack my back line. Even though one of my teammates only had 5 kill( we ain’t going to to talk about that) but I was 17 kills and maybe like 5 or 6 deaths and my tank was 20 kills( I forgot their deaths) my Ana had 2 kills but it was all good to me because she was healing the team a lot and I was mostly always trying to protect her from the enemy sombra. And what’s crazy is that enemy team kills were all below 10 but what made us lose was that sombra ulted and killed everyone on overtime . If I hadn’t died because of my bad positioning I could have countered her ult with mine. But it was too late. Even though I was kinda angry at our soujurn for such low kills. I felt like I could have done better because everytime i tried to 1v1 the sombra most of the time it was other people also attacking me or she had gotten an health pack before I could kill her. And what’s crazy is I was killing her most of the time she was alone and no one was attacking me . But maybe I was just diffed ( a little bit💀). I completely forgot my echo stats but I think they were good🤷🏽♀️
A trick vs mei you can try is to fake hack her and bait her ice block. Wont always work but worth a shot if you have to.

Kinda bad for mei to insta iceblock if she is being hacked. She can survive the initial attack and then iceblock to heal up. Also hack is so fast, why not finish the hack while ur at it anyway.
@psyonicvertebrae1717 most meis aren't thinking like that, especially since eliminating mei can be very important to a team fight. And once you hack you have to wait the cooldown which might not be able to get off at a good point. Mei isn't your first priority anyway but if you can bait ice block without hack that's best.

As someone has no game sense, no mechanical skill whatsoever I can vouch for Support being powerful as hell, because I actually do pretty decently
I tend to focus on landing virus first and THEN, if I have time, hack them, since I prefer to lower their time to react by not giving them the unstealth+hacking time window to start trying to dodge virus. Obviously there are exceptions, like helping blow up a rein, you want his shield down asap, a genji double jump spamming, a lucio wall riding, flying characters and so on.

I swear the last 2 days I’ve been playing sombra. I’ve hacked GA mercy’s or mercy’s in Rez and it shows them hacked. But abilities weren’t disrupted

For widows I've found that it's often better to wait for her to be in-scope and then virus and headshot her a couple times
Rather than hacking her, which alerts her to you and makes her a much harder-to-track target
The fact there's an ongoing debate between Sombra mains about the order of the ability rotation shows she's on that nuance sweetspot in terms of design.

I slightly disagree with the support 1v1s, especially after support nerfs. If a DPS is flanking, playing isolated, or is in a position you need to deny (such as high ground), defiantly more viable to go for them. But if you’re 5 stacking or scrimming, a lot of the times the DPS have a support with them for a flank, pocket, etc. In this case, since it’ll be hard to kill the DPS and supports have the most OP CDs in the game, I like to virus and deal damage to bait support CDs like immort or suzu so that when my tank engages and we commit to a hard dive or even just simple target focusing in brawl, it’s going to be THAT much easier to secure the kill
Yes, supports are the best duelist and have the most broken utility in the game, but that’s only IF they have their CDs. Bait them out in the setup or soft engage phase with a get-out-of-jail-free translocator, and I find it easier to win fights as long as I’m coordinating with my tank. A Tracer could play a similar role, buts obvs they have their own pros and cons depending on the map and team comps being played
When the enemy team is constantly grouped up, that's hard as hell to deal with when I play DPS. I just make them waste cool downs until I see an opportunity.
LMAO I’m learning sombra but even as a support main myself I wholeheartedly agree with everything said here. Support was better in S1 because there was an actual skill gap. Now any one can accidentally throw out cooldowns like hot cakes and still be fine. The abilities are too strong

Samito relies on the RMB hack way too much. Nowadays it's just NOTICE ME SENPAI card and should be used mostly to disrupt abilities you can actually cancel or checking if enemy has their ultimate ready. That's still a valuable thing

Sometimes the automatic invis bug, and I have to use the translocator to become invisible
Everyone is sleeping on doing virus before hack vs heroes with defensive cooldowns, like Ana, Bap, and Kiri.
They wont use their defensive cooldown until theyre below half usually. So you do the virus first, then hack so they cant heal. You only need to do 90 damage with your gun during the 1.5 second ability lockout, and they will die without even getting to use cooldowns.
Ive been doing this vs Masters and GM Kirikos and it works wonders. The only way for her to counter it is to do a perfect 180 kunai to cancel hack, or to waste her Suzu immediately. In which case, you traded a 14 second cooldown for a 6 second cooldown, and you can just get out and go back in.
The other advantage is that its way easier to hit virus coming out of stealth, compared to trying to land it after theyre hacked and start dodging. Whereas, its easy to land hack after they start dodging, because they cant dodge hack.
Seriously guys, try it. Virus THEN hack.

I am curious how you feel about hack+virus as opposed to just using virus? I have heard people say and have had success with just virus since it does give you less warning and more time shooting as opposed but less overall burst damage.
I think it kinda depends on who you’re targeting and who is able to peel for them.

Where is the counter play? This reminds me of dps Doomfist issues. You just have to play counters against sombra? What am i missing here?

This is a 'guide' that'll only help on higher tiers, about 5% of the community, your first footage was a sigma helping you with widowmaker, then a WB kill secured thanks to accretion.
Alright so, for your ELO basically what you want to do is hover over sombra in the hero selection screen, and then pick reaper or junkrat instead. Hope this helps :)
ive been playing a decent amount of sombra as well in high master/gm level, if you can find lifeweaver on his own you can definetely get the kill, (sometimes they take wierd angles for lifegrip saves and such.) also hacking gives vision to everyone still so hacking key targets like widow can really help out the team, no need to risk dying to a 1 tap, can hack, give info and wait for team to capitalize

note that you’ll go into stealth no matter if you throw the trans or not. I believe its 1.5 seconds out of combat. you’ll go into stealth regardless of throwing the translocator
It's 3 seconds. Translocator shortens it, hence the reason he throws it.

Additional damage only happens if you Virus an already hacked/EMP'd target. So Virus after hack.
You get 10 extra dmg if the target is already hacked, but why would you anyway. It's riskier if you virus first because they would have that split second extra opportunity to follow up on you and cancel your hack and the DOT dmg since it's slower could be healed mid 1v1 if they have supports with some awareness
Yes it does give the effect but you lose the extra 10 damage it’s gets on the initial hit
