    I don’t mind paying property tax on what i PAID for my home, not on what someone perceives the value to be. I don’t plan on selling my home but I’m taxed on double what I paid for it

      Shouldn't be able to use sales on non- homestead property as a comparison to yours. If it isn't homestead then it's not a "like" property. What they pay to live in vs. what they pay for an investment property is different.

    • @PapayaSalad562

      That is a problem in a lot of states. They invented bullshit reasoning. Oh you want to refinance? We'll have to reassess and now your new property tax is 3k higher than all your neighbors even though all the homes are the same.

    • @MekareP
      @MekareP ปีที่แล้ว +8

      😂 guys.... have it appraised independently and fight the new assessed value... they can't say it's worth more than it is. And if it's is worth more....that's a caveat of home ownership and increased equity. We sold ours for the same reason and are living a better life in a smaller, less expensive home in a rural area not far from the city we lived in. It was a great investment that made a happier life through all the inflation possible.

    I work in mortgage and it’s the investment firms artificially driving up property values that is causing the increase in property taxes. They do it intentionally because it makes it worth more in their assets portfolio. That’s why they’ll pay 100k over listing price for a 3 bedroom

    • @joelrodriguez9661
      @joelrodriguez9661 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not the whole of the increase in property values and thus property taxes. Local governments and the state could put larger caps on the rate of annual property tax increases or assessed values. Or adopt a system where property taxes are calculated on a percentage of assessed value. Say 80% of assessed value and they your homestead exemptions stack on top of that.

I would not have been able to ever retire given the annual rate of increases. Also, the city taxes I paid offered absolutely no community services for seniors. They were just letting it pile up in city accounts.
    Texas is rediculous sucking so much money out of people and offering nothing back but big stadiums.

      Agreed! The biggest culprits of the property tax issue are the bureaucracies and school districts feeling entitled to more and more of your money to sustain their spending addictions. In Arlington, we have the goofiest leaders who have brought record-setting bond packages in the last 3 bond elections (each surpassing the previous). The last one for our school district was over $1billion!!! A 5-year $1 billion bond for the school district. All so we could build shiny football stadiums, detached performance halls, and olympic grade natotoriums. Almost NONE of that bond went back into the actual education of children. It instead went to buying shiny trinkets. All of which must be maintained by PAID staff. This is something voters are too stupid to recognize when they're voting for these bond packages. Every time you approve a bond package, you are actually guaranteeing your property taxes will go up for at least the next five years.

      I'm 61 and having to do the same thing and it's specifically because of property taxes and the recent increases. I currently have 2000 sq ft on 3/4 ac outside of town costing $3800 yr and I can get the same on 20 freaking acres and still only pay $400. It's ludicrous to make it impossible for any but the wealthy to retire here. My mother will probably be losing her house soon for the same reason, she's 83 and without me she'd be HOMELESS. Why would property tax impact their ability to keep their homes? Yes rising interest rates are putting a crunch on homeowners with a mortgage, but then again when they took out the mortgage they would have already factored in that interest rates wouldn't be artificially low at 2% forever. And if they did make that assumption shame on them! If they haven't learned from the GFC, maybe they'll learn this time.
      And passing property on to family is not dealt with in property taxes, it's dealt with in estate taxes which last I checked was a Federal issue. If you want to complain about something why don't you complain about the simple fact that if you are a US citizen you will be taxed by the Feds for the rest of your life regardless of where you live. You could be working overseas for years, it doesn't matter, you gotta declare the income and pay tax on it. And this policy has been around for decades across administrations.

      10% sales tax cover everything from Federal to city. And all between.
      The problem is, too many side accounts. And money that disappears.
      A few years back I did the research and my 10% sales tax. Would work across the whole US.
      And not only that. But it reduces the Federal debt.
      You don't open your wallet and tell someone take what you need.
      You tell them what they are to receive. And make them, make thier own budget.
      A huge key here is this.
      You don't advance anyone their funds.
      Everything is based off the prior years revenue intake.
      So for the first year of collection. Everyone is working on the old system.

    That's disappointing, he knows he can't drop property taxes to zero, it's all for show, trying to make it look like he's trying when he really isn't. Property taxes are definitely too high in Texas and they probably should be cut in half but I don't see that happening either. If he was pushing for an across the board 20 or 25% drop then it would be believable but pushing for elimination just makes him look like an idiot. It's not that I wouldn't like to see property taxes eliminated, I just recognize it's not practical.

      The problem is if you own a big farm, either you're going to be paying out the butt in tax, or people owning suburban lots are going to be paying peanuts. A good size farm is over several dozen acres whereas the average suburban lot is an eighth of an acre, a difference of up to over a thousand times. So if a suburban landowner would pay $1,000 a year, then a farmer would owe $1 million a year.
