Hi and happy holidays to everyone, I have a Moen 1222 shower valve leaking and I replaced a brand new Moen Ginuine OEM cartridge from Lowe’s store and it still leak quite a bit. Then tried replacing a 2nd new in box cartridge and this 2nd NEW IN BOX cartridge 1222 still leak quite a bit and I called Moen and technical department technician explained to me that maybe because (a retail or box stores) Lowe’s and Home Depot have maybe a month or two months shipping from factory; the 2 rubber sides might dry out even with included silicone grease pack (?). Then after hanging up with them Moen, I went back to Lowe’s and bought the Danco third-party part cartridge 1222 and installed it. It leaks but a lot less so I don’t know what else you might recommend. the body to cavity the body in the wall maybe need replacement but this is a lot of work. I mean tearing a nice square hole to access tge body to replace in the wall hopefully not …. Hopefully someone might have suggestions, please let me know if they have maybe a thicker rubber 2 sides repair of this plastic 1222 valves that might help stop leaking before tearing out wall and replacing with new body of new assembly which Moen might send as FREE replacement. December 4th, 2004 Seattle (Renton WÁ). Thank you and be safe everyone 😉🤓🥹🥺😀
Dude I just did mine and it was a bear!! Not hours but extremely hard. I cleaned the tube with vinegar and a toothbrush afterward to try to break up some crud
@@mattmelfarmlife mine was covered in calcium deposits and impossible to pull out. Eventually Had to break it down into small pieces with a power drill and some pliers. Took hours to remove, just a couple minutes to install the new one though.
Same here. Easy to take out new ones. Show real world. An hour and fifteen minutes to get one out because of calcium buildup. Pour design under those circumstances. Stem came out and left the cartridge inside.
My cartridge broke in half due to sediment drop but I’m digging it out piece by piece, I put clr on in and letting it sit overnight, hopefully I won’t have to replace the cartridge housing as well…I even used an extractor but it was brittle plastic, can’t find a full brass replacement…oh well, the joys of home ownership, good video though!
I have 2 handles probably 20 years old Moen Brass and silver . Water has been cold and the hot handle spins … I’ve replaced cartridges before but many years ago.. don’t know which ones
Definitely could be a bad valve. If you haven't already done this, call delta, they will usually send you a valve for free. Mine was making a noise and when I replaced it, it stopped
One thing to make sure of is that the bottom of the cartridge is pushed all the way up. When you install the cartridge if you push on the stem at all it could end up leaving an opening which will cause the cartridge to leak. You can try taking the trim off and then pulling the stem out a bit (leave the pin in so you don't pull the cartridge out) and see if that helps. The other thing to check would be to make sure the cartridge is all the way in. When you push the cartridge in push from the sides not the stem. When I originally installed the cartridge I pushed the stem in a bit and I had a leak. Also, if you pull the cartridge out make sure the valve has nothing in it.
I just fixed the shower cartridge after watching this great video today . One issue I ran into was the cartridge was still leaking but stopped after turning the handle 180 degrees. So I have to make sure that notch on stem is turned towards down - off position and then attach handle in off positions.you can then turn handle to the position appropriate to insert the lock screw.
Camera view was not ideal in some key shots, but adding the various notes via on-screen graphics made up for what would have otherwise been not 100% clear. :-)
sorry, i was hoping for the video on how to get the cartridge out without it breaking or what to do when they do.. as they always do.. please cover that one. tips and tricks is what we need please
Every person that shows a 1222 always edits the part where they put the cartridge back in. It always gets stuck at the O ring and not one video keeps that in. Hmm
I have not experienced it getting stuck. I have experience where the stem gets push back into the cartridge. At that point you can just pull the stem out a bit. I believe I go over that in the video. I haven't experienced the O ring getting stuck though. I would make sure the O ring is seated properly.

you do good videos! Exactly the help I needed. I owe you a beer, thank you
Not all of them come out so easy as that. I just spent hours getting mine out that was leaking and stuck like nobody’s business.

Spent two hours with mine and it even broke I have to buy another one. It’s not easy
Buy the cartridge puller make easy and then if you don’t need it, you can return the puller anytime. Thanks
The view of your hairy hand covering the entire view in the most important parts of the video is epic
Really great view of the guys forearm.

Call Moen, or whomever the manufacturer is.
I just replaced mine and it’s making a noise when I open it half way. Defective or did I do/put it in wrong?

I replaced my cartridge last night but the showerhead is still leaking. I'm not sure what the problem could be. 🤔

Any showing 2 handles? For shower?

My set screw is stuck

What broke?
@@HomeRepairHub the cartridge broke into pieces. I had to get an extractor and get it out piece by piece.

Yes, great view of his hairy arm….. the work site, not so much.☹
Usually don't come out that easy. And the "pin" is called a clip.
