The Tommy's Margarita was created by the second-generation owner of the Tommy's Mexican Restaurant, Julio Bermejo. He swapped the triple sec from a classic Margarita for agave syrup to emphasise the agave flavours of the tequila.

    - 1 oz / 30 ml lime juice
    - 1 oz / 30 ml agave syrup (less if using undiluted nectar)
Note: - agave nectar and agave syrup are often used interchangeably so you might need to test your ratios depending on the agave syrup/nectar you are using.

My wife loves margaritas - I got some blue curacao from marionette & made her a semi-dry one (just a small dash of agave nectar as additional sweetener) & the lime n salt garnishes & she loves them (we’re like 3/4 through the 500ml bottle of curacao in a few months on her own & just with this drink) - but there’s loads of ways to vary a margarita - I did yours/cocktail pete’s watermelon one with acidulated watermelon juice & she loved that too. Awesome - keep it up…

Regardless of the margarita, I always prefer ice in my margarita. I’ve had a handful of margaritas in coupe glasses with no ice and they just aren’t the same as the cool and refreshing ones that have ice.

Tommy’s is great and The Educated Barfly combined the 2. 2oz Blanco (not Reposado), 1oz lime, 1/2oz agave syrup and 1/2oz dry curaçao. It is great. I’ve also substituted in triple syrup instead of agave syrup when I had made a batch. 1800 is sort of a mediocre brand, not sure if you can get Olmeca Altos but that’s my favorite for margaritas. 7 Leguas is also very good but a bit more pricy for mixing.

I'm a big fan of Tommie's Margarita. Thanks for showcasing the recipe. As I understand it, the difference between agave syrup and agave "nectar" (such as Tres Agaves Agave Nectar) is that the nectar is syrup diluted in half. The Agave Syrup available where I live is the consistency of honey, while the Agave Nectar I use is less viscous, more like a simple sugar syrup. My ratio is 2 parts Tequila to 1 part lime to 1 part Agave Nectar.
If I use the syrup I cut the amount of syrup in half and add extra water to get back to a 2/1/1 ratio. Perhaps not needed, but I've convinced myself that it helps match the overall volume and balance of using agave nectar.

I say, add agave nectar to taste. Start with a bar spoon and a half of the stuff, give it a stir, and taste. If it's still not sweet enough, add another half-barspoonful more. The Tommy's Margarita highlights the Tequila more than the classic version, though I like what the orange liqueur brings to the drink. So, I combined the two recipes and made a hybrid:
    1.5 oz Tequila
    3/4 oz lime juice
    1/2 oz Cointreau
    1 bar spoon agave nectar
    8 drops umami bitters

Went against my better judgment and made this with the full 1 oz of agave syrup. Good lord, man, how can you stand it this sweet? The flavors are good, don’t get me wrong, but the sugar is out of control. Then I looked up others’ recipes for the Tommy Margarita and literally every single one I’ve found so far recommends half an ounce of agave syrup, not a full ounce.
For anyone reading this comment, I highly recommend halving the agave syrup and trying that first before adding any more, unless you like your drinks tooth-achingly saccharine.

2 oz Arrette, 1 oz lime juice, 1/2 oz Dry Curacao, 1/2 Agave syrup--served straight up, double strained, never ever on the rocks. three times a week, just saying.

Little less agave than this recipe and a pinch of sea salt in the shaker - no salt rim

No triple sec or anthing like that?

    • @MichaelAlderete
      @MichaelAlderete ปีที่แล้ว

Most triple secs are low quality, and are just there to add sweetness (plus a bit of orange). The agave replaces it for sweet, and if you miss the orange (I do), add a touch of a quality orange liquor, like Cointreau.

Cuervo is good for mixing, but horrible for sipping. Too many additives, flavorings and colorings. Try Fortaleza, Arrette, Ocho, G4, El Tesoro or El Tequileno if you want real traditional (non headache) tequila.

I wish you wife would choose some thirsty comments from fans, and you would read them on a video lol

My wife is thirsty. So I'm going to make a 4 minute video making her favorite drink, then drink it my self. 😂

If you can get it try Casa Dragones tequila. A little pricier but it's delicious. Mexicans love hibiscus, so it's not at all uncommon to find hibiscus flavoured margaritas and they're really good. You can also try subbing out the tequila for mezcal, but my absolute favourite variation is jalapeño.

NOT NO, BUT HELL NO ! With all due respect If you're not putting Cointreau or Grand Marnier in you are just making a tequila drink , In my opinion and I live in Texas and I'm 64 years old and I've been drinking margaritas for a long long time. And I like contreau
