    Best N64 game out there. I played it so much that even my mom started it...yeah, and she actually finished the whole game without cheats, which I could never accomplish as a kid.

      Sasuke Uchiha Well you should - if your N64 is still running, that is. Mine is still set up with my old TV. I recently bought all the games I wished for as a kid...unfortunately I don´t have much time anymore. It´s a dilemma.

    You didn't mention the biggest technological achievement of this game: skin.
    This was the first game in history to have characters in which it's body is made of one piece.
    It's hard to explain without showing photos.. but all other polygonal games up to that point, each character were built in pieces and put together in the game.. so you can see divisions in all articulations. (look for pics of Super Mario 64 for example.. it's easy to spot). In Turok 2, characters didn't have the divisions.. the whole body looked like it was covered by skin. Compare the velociraptor from Turok 1 and Turok 2... in T1 they are full of divisions in every joint... in T2 they are perfect.

      Didn't Crash Bandicoot has a single mesh technology? That's how they got around the fact that the hardware didn't have Z-buffering

    • @hiimmeurnot
      @hiimmeurnot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unreal also had single mesh characters, and it came out 5 months earlier than T2, although the character models in T2 are much more impressive.

    • @gozinta82
      @gozinta82 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hiimmeurnot I was gonna say that too. Other games did it, but there were pros and cons of doing mesh vs multiple groups of shapes. I wouldn't consider it perfect either. THere were many flaws with stretching and the mouths looking awkward. Great idea, nontheless, but it wasn't them who pioneered it.

      That claim is specially stupid when you remember that Nintendo WAS labeled as a company only for small children back in the N64 and GC eras, and that that label actively harm them in a MASSIVE way.

    Since I heard "Port of Adia" for the first time in 1998, I totally fell in love with this game. It is one of my favourite shooters of all time. Thanks for making this video. I hope Turok gets the place it deserves in the hall of fame of videogames.

    This game is truly amazing, even today, as there are so many games nowadays that could actually learn from this, in terms of weapon variation, music and enemies. Even for an old game, I still think it surpasses a good number of shooters to date.

    The one thing I always loved about turok 2 is the save points being far away. This always gave me a sense of pressure and made me carefully go through the game like if I was like an actual hunter. This will be one of my favorite shooters.

      ***** Count me in as well, I still have my black Turok 2 N64 cart. I really enjoyed the attention to detail in this game. You would get lost really easily in the levels, because of how large the levels were and there was also no room for hand-holding! I still can't believe how good the weapons were in this game..

  • @NexusArtRealm
    @NexusArtRealm 8 ปีที่แล้ว +63

    This is by far, my favorite FPS for the N64 console. It is without argument, one of the best titles to own on this console, period. I was fortunate enough to grab my copy weeks after it's initial release, from my local music shop. I didn't have any expectations, as it was my first introduction to a Turok game.
    EVERYTHING about this game, is bad asss! The graphics were very well done for it's age, plus expansion pak. The music was both haunting and memorable. The controls were solid and the story was intriguing. The action was thrilling. Man, I had dreams about this game, after spending so many hours playing it.
    The levels, bosses, etc, were all unique. Nothing felt repetitious whatsoever. Each world had it's own personality and felt huge! This wasn't like Quake or Doom, where those are more claustrophobic. Turok SOE, really took advantage of the console's strengths.
    I remember that when the PS2 Turok Evolution game arrived, I was sooo excited to get it, due to my heightened expectations of SOE...and was let down IMMENSELY. The PS2 game pales in comparison in all categories. The most boring Turok I have ever played. Seeds Of Evil, is a winner, even by today's standards. If you haven't tried it...GET IT. Best Turok game to date.

    • @donpawa
      @donpawa 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly like you said, each of the 6 worlds had a very distinct personality and made sense, they were believable. And since they were so huge and you had multiple objectives, you had to play very concentrated in order to not get lost and achieve everything. Therefore the save points felt like an oasis! while completing the levels was indeed a very entertaining achievement.
      Definitely better than the first Turok, and definitely one of the best FPS in N64 together with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. However, Turok 2 feels more epic.

    If I remember correctly, Turok 2 was the first game, or one of the first, to utilize "Soft Skin" in console video gaming, meaning that a creatures looked like one fully entity and not a polygon monster made up of, well, polygons. Also, I never beat this game without cheating. Even with the Invincibility cheat on, that last boss took at least a half-hour to kill. #Ridiculous

    I have ALOT of childhood memories of Turok 2 (and Turok 1, I had both). I remember my jaw hitting the floor at seeing the graphics with the expansion pack. The single player campaign levels in Turok 2 are sprawling, and I love the weapons, music and overall atmosphere of the environments.

    In my Opinion this is the best Single Player FPS on the console, always loved this game for that, and it´s probably the game with the most gore on the N64 too. Not only is the Cerebreal Boar one of the most creative and brutal weapons ever imagined, but you could holes into some enemies with a laser gun too, complete with dripping blood and the broken spine visible. And the first Part of the 2nd Level where you control the Triceratops, man, that was amazing, that Part will never get old. Love this game, probably have to play it again too.

    Oh how i miss playing this game. Turok 1 & 2 were childhood favorites, I still have Turok 1 but my copy of Turok 2 stopped working like 8 yrs ago. I've always loved game developers that were creative with their weaponry. Insomniac Games are the most recent (that I've played) with the Resistance trilogy. The Bullseye and the M5A1 Folsom carbine were my top picks. But Insomniac Games ain't got shit on Acclaim and Iguana Entertainment. Turok Dinosaur Hunter had the Alien Blaster, pulse rifle, and the Cronoceptor. Turok 2, while I liked the cerebral bore, my most used weapons were the razor wind, tek bow. and the shredder. Never got a chance to play Turok 3 though, Perfect Dark was another game with beastly weaponry, That laptop gun was the shit, the Farsight, and my personal favorite, the K7 Avenger. They just don't make guns like they used to.
    Great video by way, It's good to know somebody still appreciates the old classics.

    one of my favorites. I completed it entirely. I remember it took me more than 20 hours and for a FPS that's a lot of time indeed. After that, we used to gather with my friends and spend hours with the MP. Our favorite customization was leaving only the crossbow as an available weapon and see who was the one with more headshots!!!. Amazing game

  • @RonRose
    @RonRose 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I love this game. The visuals are top notch and the score is fantastic. It definitely showed off the power of the Expansion Pak. I enjoyed the over the top gore and downright viciousness of some of the game's weapons. Seeds of Evil is waaayyyy better than the 2008 reboot. Which is a shame because the Turok series deserves to remain relevant. Especially with all the cookie cutter squad-based shooters that have dominated the market for the past several years. There are a lot of FPS players who would appreciate an alternative to the same old same old. Hell, look at how well Far Cry 3 and it's DLC Blood Dragon were received. Turok definitely needs to make a comeback (only with less faux-hawks and wonky QTEs), lol

(i was only 7 or 8) I immediately turned the console off in pure fear of what it was haha. I had only played racing and mario games prior to that. The next day I called my cousin and told him about it he told me "oh yeah I love that game, check out the cheat code for it 'BEWAREOBLIVIONISATHAND'" and it was at that moment I was forever doomed with never playing the game without that cheat code. I still to this day have never beaten the game the 'Proper way'... :(

    I loved Turok 1 as a kid and I remember renting Turok 2, but I was hardly able to get anywhere in it. Years later, I got the PC ports by Nightdive and was able to beat Turok 1 for the first time. Turok 2 on the other hand, I could still get hardly anywhere! The maps feel so maze-like in Turok 2, and I feel like I'm *constantly* running back and forth trying to find some of the objectives. At least the PC port lets you know things are nearby with an icon, but that's only if you're close enough. I ended up giving up on trying to beat it shortly after you get to ride on the Triceratops for the first time. But this review makes me feel like reinstalling it and giving it another try! There was a lot to appreciate and enjoy about Turok 2, but these level layouts are killing me!

    I didn't grow up with this game. nowadays the technical and frame rate issues, as well as low fov would probably prevent me from doing so. Thankfully, there's the Nightdive remaster. Turok 2 in this state, without frame rate issues and the graphics touched up to be even better than the original, it's still amazing to this day. The N64 soundtrack is simply glorious. the ways you can dismember an enemy are still satisfying, like the cerebral boar, or even just the standard shotgun. Little things like the arrows being retrievable. It's still amazing today, and while the levels can still be a bit confusing, it's a lot better than Turok 1.
