I remember going to watch a reserve team in 1953/4 l was 9 years old against Port Vale can't remember the score but it took me 12minutes to run round the onside .there were not more than a dozen fans.happy days
Ah, I really enjoyed that. Adding the East Stand really finished off the move to a completely enclosed stadium, but sadly it meant farewell to the iconic diamonds in the sky.
I'm surprised they haven't redevoped the ground more. Not much could be done on the south side, but a huge new west stand could be built. The Revie stand and corners could be improved as well. Leeds is the 3rd largest city in the UK and a one club city. They could fill a 50,000 seater ground, most games, no problem.
Leeds took safety at Elland Road very seriously after the fire to the 51-year-old West Stand burning it to the ground. Fortunately it was not during a game when it happened so no casualties. Another fire occurred two years later in the then new West Stand during a reserve game, but was quickly quelled & damage was minimal. Again without casualties. Leeds were also the visitors to Nottingham Forest when the City Ground's Main Stand went up in flames in 1968. All got out of there safely & Elland Rd, which had just started major development of the ground, bore that incident in mind & became safer still on completion in the mid-1970s. This included moving the pitch by 60ft & allowing a brand new bigger capacity South Stand (previous one was dubbed the "Scratching Shed") to be built. After the developments was already a safe ground even before the Bradford football fire in 1985. It once successfully staged an FA Cup semi-final replay in 1980 & should have been chosen to stage much more FA Cup semi-final games. Elland Rd was a lot safer than Hillsborough on that basis if it had been chosen to stage the 1989 FA Cup semi-final replay between Liverpool & Nottm Forest (Liverpool wanted the game not to be played at Hillsborough, but to no avail) there would have been no tragedy. That & excellent motorway links to the ground would have made Elland Rd a perfect venue.
Love it. We'd love to show this on Leeds TV on our regular segment showcasing great local videos from social media. Would you be happy to let us broadcast this with a credit to you?
It still remains that the photograph of Bert Trautmann was taken at Kenilworth Road the home of Luton Town and not as implied at Elland road the home of Leeds!
Hi, Like your Channel! However as an ardent Luton Town fan for some 55 Years I was astounded to see the still of "1950's A Cold Bert Trautmann of Man City". The picture implies that this photograph is at Elland Road!! It is in fact a photograph taken of Kenilworth Road from the Kenny End and shows the distinctive shape of the Main Stand at Luton Town! Perhaps you could edit this or perhaps go even further and include the Hatters Kenilworth Road Stadium in your Channel especially as we will be moving in the near future! COYH!!
I believe Leeds City started playing football on the Holbeck Rugby Union Ground forgot the year , wonder if there is any drawings or Photos of that ground ...
She’s still beautiful! Best for atmosphere too
Ενας φίλαθλος της LEEDS UNITED από την Ελλάδα ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Everytime you step into Elland road you are taking a step through history
I love stadiums like this and villa park because they have loads of history
Great ground, full of character unlike these new modern day soulless stadiums that are built.
Aka the "madjeski" grounds
miss watching the hairhills kicking off in the shed watching from the lowfeilds corner happy days i was only 12
A truly wonderful and magical place to watch "proper football

My boyfriend at the time took me first to the scratching shed it was abit rough but I loved it. All the 6otis...
My first game was Leeds vs Everton Nov 1968 and the Gelderd End had just been built!

The problem is we couldn't since relegation, it's only recently we could justify a stadium as big as it is.
@Lord Rupert Arsenal and Villa?
Love that place. MOT
Another great video:) Keep up the good work!
My Church since 1972. MOT.

Elland Road is the only place for us...
Frank Machin With heart and soul. 👍 MOT
Holbeck Rugby played on what was to become known as Elland Road staduim from 1897 to 1904 .

Place has sum history like, only place for us, we'll keep goin to Elland rd till we die, then our spirits will still be there 🙂👍💛🤍💙
3 dislikes from Millwall and Man United fans.
One thing I did notice about these pictures of leeds ground it doesn't give out the attendance of how many fans that turned up.

It's definitely not ER.
Need to expand the west stand now.
Man they should have never took those floodlights down.....
That last pic of the East Stand is more circa 2014

Oops, someone dropped a clanger? Luton fans will be mad as "hatters".👍🤣
They should build a new West Stand just like the East Stand.

It was Holbeck rugby league club & their ground was the very same Elland Road ground as shown in the video and used by Leeds United.
Ellis B what happened to Leeds city I wonder ?
The pitches where dreadful lol...glad landscape gardening moved with the times.
They all look like carpets now.
@1:48 didn’t know there was a stream there once upon a time.
still there, just all underground now, it is/was called Hol Beck, the area takes its name from it
Okay! Now Comment reappeared! Excellent! Now all that has to be done is to correct the mistake
away end is rotting like my wisdom tooth
The Bert Trautman image is of Kennilworth Road Luton so this video is wrong
MOT with Bielsa back to the EPL
Bring back the lowfeilds and the terraces. I don't want a ground where every stand is like the west stand
Oh Dear original Comment Removed again!! COYH!!
