There's a live recording, from 1974, of Frank Sinatra saying that to the Woody Herman Band before their solo ('I've Got You Under My Skin', from 'The Main Event (Live)'). Given Dave's eclectic tastes I wouldn't be surprised if he borrowed the phrase from Frank. 😊

That is because most of the people who enjoy good live music, and will show appreciation to the band by going nuts are screened out by network security. Its a real pain in the balls trying to get into the audience of a televised music performance, and you will stand around for 10 hours despite what ever the weather is doing that day. This is a terrific performance! Dave could've cared less what he was saying during the verses and it worked great! They were all having fun and the sound was incredible
Can't believe DLR broke his nose barely an hour before in the sound check when he missed the mic stand catch. Just pushed through. Seems out of it though. Maybe pain killers! Legend.
It wasn’t even soundcheck. It was actually the song they were performing for tv. They started out with Panama and that was the one shown on kimmel. DLR broke his nose while doing his spinning bar routine. He actually got through the first verse and chorus while constantly wiping his nose since he was bleeding bad. He walked off during the guitar solo to seek some help, then told the crowd what happened, Eddie played improvised solos to keep the crowd entertained and when he patched up they restarted. The tv actually showed the routine then used the take from after he was patched up and you can’t even tell they spliced it other than the camera switch. Look up David lee Roth incident and TH-cam and you can watch both takes. The vid is about 15 min long and it’s camera footage from almost the front row

Giving musicians respect isn't part of the gig. You probably want old stars to talk more than sing. It's good these people aren't jumping and/or rocking out. They're not as stoned as Van Halen is.
His sense of timing and feel was off the charts. His solos blow my mind and i've been playing over 30 years. He just falls in and falls out like it's nothing. I think he said it was like falling down the stairs and landing on your feet. He did it masterfully.
