- The first 2 minutes of this program were missing from my recording. It consisted of an introduction of Tom Selleck and his (then) new movie Monte Walsh.

I was in high school when Magnum P.I. became popular on CBS. Most of us teenage guys wished we had Tom's good looks, unfortunately most of us looked like Higgens.

It was Hollywood's huge mistake to not bring back movies with a real leading man. Should have custom fit it to him.
Mr. Selleck reminds me so much of my dad. His looks, his mannerisms, his voice, his morals and values. I lost my dad 23 years ago and I watch Blue Bloods every single day just so that I can feel closer to my dad. I know that probably doesn't make sense to most people but that's ok. Thank you, Mr. Selleck, for being who you are.

The mustache changed his career. For years, the consummate super-star was the image of Clark Gable as Rhett Butler. With the mustache, Sellleck made the transition to super-star. The media had found their contemporary Gable, and Selleck had found his calling.
He really impressed me on his Rockford Files appearances. He and James Garner had great chemistry and both episodes were well written, directed and cast. Blessings to all who do quality work every day!
Stephen J. Cannell brought both of them together in 1978 at Universal and the rest, as they say, is history!!!

Tom always reminded me of my father and after he died in 2012 I kept on watching episodes of Season 1 and 2 from Magnum Pi everyday for the next two years, it gave me more peace of mind than many other things could have during this time so I will always be gratefull for Toms work on this awesome show

For me it`s kinda similar, since my older brother and I always used to watch Magnum, A-team and other old classic shows together with my Dad on Saturdays :)
Back then (like late 90s early 2000s) I always thought it was my dad in the show since he had the same Hairstyle, Beard, Clothes and generall looks of him and my Mom always used to tell us, that he owned a sports car back in the day so it made 100% sence to me haha
It was only when i was a little older that i realised my mistake but i can still see the resemblance ^^

@@spenfor1598 my 92 year old mom and I would watch the Inspiration channel for the old westerns and Tom Selleck was in a commercial and I'd tell my mom that's my boyfriend. 🤭so when his commercial came on my mom would say, there's your boyfriend 🤦♀️ loved Quincy.
Tom Selleck's my favourite actor ever. Pitty in my country , Argentina , we can't watch Magnum PI anymore. I enjoyed watching the series and started to admire him, and still do.

Magnum PI was it for me as a young woman.....he was the WOW....since I am six feet tall he was and still is everything I ever wanted in a man....
Gorgeous....Sexy.....Sensitive.....Tall.....Muscular.....🥳....I could go on and on.....as it turns out a friend bought me the eight year Magnum PI series and I am in heaven yet again.....every-time he looks into the camera and smiles and when he raises his eye brows in the intro my heart goes a flutter and I smile.....it’s been amazing watching the series again....love you Tom Selleck....thank you so much for honouring your contract......btw I never did see Raider 😉🙃

I never saw Magnum PI when it was running, I usually saw Miami Vice, which I never got, so weird, I saw it because I lived in Miami. With these times we are living I cant relate to TV, so started watching Magnum PI, to see old shows and see how tv was, and it hit me, I love it It saved me during the pandemic, watched it in the morning, at 10pm at night and all day sunday. The show grows on you leaves you HAPPY, and you see how simple life was, then in the channel GRIT I saw him doing a Western on a Saturday night, Quigley, and he plays an amazing cowboy, Tom Selleck you have achieve greatness, your work will live forever.
Happy 77th birthday to the legendary Tom Selleck- we know him as Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods, but for die hard fans, he's Thomas Magnum in the 1980's!!!
Tom Sellick stayed on Anna Maria island back in the mid 80's where I was a police officer. We met Selick while he was out riding a bike and he was a very nice guy. After a while he seemed more like a guy you went to high school with than a TV star. We had a lot of celebrities come there and on Long boat Key not all of them are nice.

I lived on Oahu from 77 - 82 . Saw many onsite shoots of Magnum PI. In High school at the time, we would skip to go watch filming.😎 Tom Selleck is a class A person, and is one of the few good people in evil Hollywood.
I never knew half of these things about Tom Selleck. He seems to be an all around great man. The way he talked about his mom, dad, he seems like the real deal. Hard to believe an actor can be that nice. Most you read about get into trouble, leave their wives have affairs, etc. I have to give kudos to his parents. That is why he treats people so good. They gave him that decent upbringing that alot of kids are lacking today. How many actors/producers/directors would take his Bonus check and buy gifts for his crew?? Not many. Great job, Mr. Selleck.

Tom Selleck can pull off being a modern day Cop or P.I. He can do a light hearted comedy and can handle a Ferrari or a horse. And he obviously is very comfortable on a horse. If Selleck is in it, I'm watching it. I never really knew what came first but I think we all grew mustaches AFTER we watched Magnum. It was easier to grow a mustache than to buy a Ferrari.

He’s a great guy, we became friends when we were both in Sal Dano drama class! I will always consider him my friend!
Were you able to keep in touch through the years? He really does seem to be a down-to-earth, genuine person, with a loving wife and daughter. Wish more actors were like him. I remember watching him on the Dating Game and had a crush on him even then, with that personality and those dimples. But Magnum put him on the map forever.

One of my favorite westerns I have watched it and Crossfire Trail many times. Tom Selleck is the perfect guy to play a cowboy.

I can vouch for the accolades re how nice Tom is from when i worked with him as military advisor on a Cable film production post this docco. One of the nicest and most genuine actors ive met and shared interests meant lots of interesting discussions in between takes.

Like James Garner, Tom is DA MAN! A man's man and a woman's dream. These guys were the real deal, not phony bologna "stars" like most of the ones we get today or even back then. There's only one Magnum and one Jim Rockford and it's because these two guys just were their roles.
Well, at least they haven't tried to remake Rockford, thank God.

Remaking Rockford wasn't going to get off the ground. As Tom Selleck stated, only James Garner can be Jim Rockford and without Stephen J. Cannell's involvement, the project was a no go!!!
I just watched Tom in "IKE" and was SO impressed. And I think his best work is yet to come.
Great talent...and a great man. I love the ending of Quigly....the last line just before the bad guy dies. Watch it if you haven't seen it.

Will, they ever reunite Tom with his co-stars from Magnum PI as a veterans group reunion from the Viet-Nam war. The Magnum series was the first tv show that dealt with veterans with respect and not as crazies
They did when Tom was on Las Vegas….reunited Tom and his Magnum PI series.

Astrid Kierkegaard There is a documentary on Clark Gable on YT. See how Gable looked when he was a teen. I have never, ever seen a man so ugly as him. They had to wait a bit to pull his ears back, dyed his hair black, he had no teeth at all. There is more to it than what I mentioned. I would name him the Creepy Crawler. Not trying to be mean but it sure sounds like it. Check it out worth the watch.

I have to admit that I never got the Clark Gable love until I actually watched his movies. He was so masculine you could feel it from the screen but Gable had improved his looks via surgeries while Tom was just naturally handsome and just seems like a nice guy which appeals to women and men. I def. get why women loved Gable though, they don’t make men like Gable or Selleck anymore.

@@bradford_shaun_murray It was a scene in a "punk rock club". Magnum was with Rick's sister, who he thought was very innocent, but she was actually dealing drugs. She ditched Magnum there and when he tried to find her in the women's bathroom, Carol Channing came out and said there was no one in there.

That is so awesome! Did you get to talk to Tom Selleck? When Magnum was on I told my friends do not call or stop over-I do not exist for that hour.
