Visiting Lisbon & want a great day trip? Obidos is my favorite little town "by" Lisbon. About an hour away this walled city has great festivals, a wall you can walk around and cherry liquor served in chocolate cups called ginja. If you want tourism information on Obidos or are just looking to get out of Lisbon for a day or two, Obidos is a great place to do it.

Glad I could help. I am actually editing together "The Top 10 Day Trips from Lisbon" video right now. Hopefully I will have it out late next week. Then hopefully all those tourists that go to Lisbon can get out and see some of the great small towns and amazing places easily within reach of Lisbon. Thanks for watching and commenting! mark

I was in olhao in 2006. Went there right when I first moved to Portugal (I left in 2011). Still try to get back to Portugal every year, hope to get to the Algarve again on one of these trips. thanks for the support and kind words!

There is also a lot of small and big libraries in this town. There is even one that looks very medieval with ladders and old books. When I walked into the town there was even a guy in full plate armor standing at the gate. Pretty cool. :)

Was there this past summer and by chance the Medieval Festival was happening...like the Renaissance Festival in Minnesota. Stayed at an Airbnb inside city limits and drank many euros of Ginja. LOVED THIS PLACE.

Hi, I'm living in Miami now but go to Portuguese and go there a lot of times. I just wanted to thank you for visiting Portugal from north to the south... most American's just see a small country with nothing to see and generally just end up in Lisbon and they go back to Spain or other big European countries.. A lot of tourists miss out on these great small cultural towns.. Muito Obrigada for a shout out of these places around the country!

I wish Mark would write some travel books. I would LOVE to have one for Portugal...heading there in July 2016! Do you have any ebooks for Portugal?
