holy cow, I'd actually pay admission for a live tour through your studio. This is such an awesome collection of many legendary synths! Thanks a lot for giving us so many detailed insights. I really love your videos!
Thanks,Tom! So glad that you got around to doing a more detailed segment on your Korg gear, which have the sound that I relate to the most/best. These tutorials, etc., of yours have tremendous value. Please keep up the great work!
You know, there's one Korg synth that I used to see in everyone's kit that I just don't see anywhere anymore. The Korg MS2000. It seems like that synth was really popular for a while and now, it's gone and no one is using it. It's kind of a gem, but I never see it any more in anyone's studios or gigs any more.
BlackburnBigdragon check out mr. tuna TH-cam Chanel with his ms2000. It is very lovely & I was told the micro korg is the same engine with less knob per function. Idk for sure, so don’t be leave it myself lol. I’d rather have the ms2000 myself.
I love the ms2000. On my wish list. Been in love with it since it came out but just never managed to get one. Love the look of it, sounds amazing. One day.....
catface I know right I'm thinking why the hell get it "in tune"... The tuning issues not only make it sound extra awesome but make the synth even more unique! A perfectly tuned ms20 sounds like another perfectly tuned ms20. The out of tune one sounds unique! Granted for his work where he may need it to play notes in a score exactly he probs doesn't want it out of tune lol but for dirty lead lines etc I would keep it as it is!
I still have my DW-8000. Absolutely love that synth. Very unique sounds. I also still have the Wavestation A/D rack, but to be honest I think I'd prefer the softsynth version for progamability.
Totally amazing how you give us a quick overview how Synthesizers work in the past musicaly without going much into technical stuff. Not that I wouldn't like that but this way it gives much more understanding how great music were made with the use of Synthesizers.
I used to have a Korg Monopoly - great Synth. Interestingly the keyboard assembly is the same as the Korg Poly 800 haves, which came out with a reverse colored keyboard edition. So i replaced the Monopoly keys with the reverse colored ones and made my own very unique Monopoly synthesizer! 😊
Are you a KORG-fan too, by any means? ;-} I can understand. And I HAD the 700 S (The Kitaro leadsynth btw...his baby!). Had the MS10/DELTA/POLY 800/MINIKORG/DDM 110. Why did I sell them??? Still have the O1W-fd/ X-50/ POLY 61/ Symphony/ KR-55/ Minipops/ 120 and Kaoss-things and stuff, so, there's still some 'magic' left! Once you go KORG, there's no way back.
Loved the tones from that MS10 and trident, thanks again for the KORG master class, now hoping on hearing some of those Oberheim and Moogs you have hidden away!
Hi Tom Great vid again , I super like the Triniton and Trinity of Korg ,but back then i did not buy it but i bought the Kawai k5000w , which was the same concept only even fatter , the told it was aditive synt, something like combinations samples with real of notes harmonics a real instrument also would have (love this sound, Native instruments did the aditive technology in there Absynt 5 vst)
I've never owned a synth... I've never even been interested in synths.... this is the 5th video over 30 minutes long by this guy I've watched in a row lol Subscribed!
Hulk Slayer this is how it starts man one moment your watching videos of synths you don't even understand then you wake up one day years later to find your room populated by synths !!!
Tom, since you like reverb, you don't have to remove it from your videos. Just pad it -6dB. This trick can in fact make some reverbs larger. *That way both tribes will be satisfied (those to like and those who dislike reverbs). LOL!*
I think he meant something like a 'notch filter', or would it be an inverted (or exclusionary) notch filter. If you honed in on that bandwidth, you could minimize its presence this way, no?
Sweet Korg collection. As cool as it is to own those old rare PS polys, they sure don't sound all that impressive. The tone sounded like something made more recently than in the seventies. I liked the Trident. Dig the MS-20 kit...I have one too :)
voted, the coolest guy in the world. iv attempted to copy some of his setup, sampling modular into samplers, I watched deadpool just because the audio.
It's always nice, what you show us Tom ♥. I know "i'm not the only one", but a great dream (for me) is to make with you a Soundtrack. But i must learn more about music and so i make this ^^d. Have great days Tom, be happy and all other people too ;) d^^bV
I'm wondering.. when you want to start a brand new track.. how do you choose which instruments will be part of the landscape? Only a fraction of your collection can be used.. so how do you choose? Do you ever use "roll the dice" techniques.. let randomness decide? (The Moog Sub 37 editor, for example, has a neat random patch feature which often comes up with really wicked sounds).
I am sure that leaving them all on is enough to heat his house without the furnace. And no doubt, his A/C system must be uprated that much more to compensate for that heat. And this is wonderful.
Hi Tom, nice video! Awesome sounds! Watched all of your videos and i mentioned that all of your synthesizer gear have a reverb on... which reverb do you use? Didn't think you do in post. Please let me know! Thanks
guy you'll talk about reverb , but every VST comes with reverb also so everything is , and sound lush , i think when recording for a movie then have to switch this reverbs of and put one reverb on all (same one )in the mix down , I think a better question to Tom would be , iff a movie has a scene where vissual there would not be a reverb posible "would it then be better to mix down with something else then a reverb ,, to thikking up the sound , and which once would be good to replace it with ? Also lets say a scene is on grassland , would a lush sound fight with the aceptence or do you then need lets say a more bare sound ?
You've got tons of puppies in that facility of yours. How much TLC is required from one New Year to the next to keep the whole arsenal up and humming? What's the overhead? (I asked that question in the Roland workshop video.) Fascinating how a single-VCO model could be meatier than a dual-VCO model (referring to the MS models of course). Always wondered what the PS synthesizers sounded like, and it's awesome to catch them being played. Modular-meets-programmable-meets-fully polyphonic. Do you know if Alan Parsons had one of the 3300s during the I Robot sessions? Have you ever owned an ARP Odyssey? Yes or no, have you considered getting hold of a Korg clone? I would recommend getting the module, since you've got everything wired for MIDI via Kenton, anyhow. I often think about sending my Roland JX-8p to the KIWI dudes to have it repaired and modified.
Tom, do you turn your gear off or do you just leave it on? and if you do turn your stuff off, do you have some power distro box that kills banks of AC power banks? i would assume so (or do you have a runner /intern who does this for you? ) :) better yet, a quick tutorial on your electrical setup and how you manage power!
2djxs or more make a great sound when in unision whith the turntables set at poles apart, ive donit , is phenominal, alien saft great, also switch the arp on function 71 set at no 2 with a latch in the foot peadel, its to much to play with
Tom and his love for endless reverbs
Korg PS-3300 at 13:30 is an incredible sound
A VERY DOWN TO EARTH GUY... VERY ENTHUSIASTIC AND KNOWLEDGEABLE...!
I could quit my job and watch these all day. Thanks for uploading these Tom! I get lost in synthesis!
I love the trident...just to hear it again takes me back to less complicated time in my life...it sounds as good today as it did years ago😁😁😁😁😁😁
I can listen to Trident for ages
Been a synth addict since my first PAIA and ARP synths in the early 70s!!! SO VERY COOL to see someone doing videos like this. FANTASTIC!
He makes being nerd about synthesizers seem awesome! I live it!
Jacob flores he is not telling you how much ne pays for repairs... :@
It IS awesome. Always has been and always will be ;)
Wow! The Trident with all three registers on the brass and strings was huge. Epic sounding.
That Korg Vocoder...............the sound of Isao Tomita’s Cosmos. 😊❤️
holy cow, I'd actually pay admission for a live tour through your studio. This is such an awesome collection of many legendary synths! Thanks a lot for giving us so many detailed insights. I really love your videos!
thank you so much for these videos, opening up your amazing studio for a part music lesson/gear history lesson. really appreciate these!
Friday morning means Studio Time! Patiently sipping my coffee waiting for that bell!
Thanks,Tom! So glad that you got around to doing a more detailed segment on your Korg gear, which have the sound that I relate to the most/best. These tutorials, etc., of yours have tremendous value. Please keep up the great work!
Interesting Workshop!! Good reverb always makes the difference..

Love the passion you have for what you do brother. 👍
This supply of geekiness is enough to carry me throught the day.
tuning issues make this ms10 sound amazing!
catface I know right I'm thinking why the hell get it "in tune"...
The tuning issues not only make it sound extra awesome but make the synth even more unique! A perfectly tuned ms20 sounds like another perfectly tuned ms20. The out of tune one sounds unique!

catface almost sounded like a Arabian scale
@@johngorgis i agree with you 😂😂😂😁buy the way it was nice
Thanks for this awesome tour! That PS-3300 is just wow...
Korg and Roland!!! Masters..
I still have my DW-8000. Absolutely love that synth. Very unique sounds. I also still have the Wavestation A/D rack, but to be honest I think I'd prefer the softsynth version for progamability.
Got a VC10 because of you, Amazing vocoder
Had the Poly 800, my first (ahhh!) and then the 707 (blue). 80's F-O-R-E-V-E-R!!!
Totally amazing how you give us a quick overview how Synthesizers work in the past musicaly without going much into technical stuff. Not that I wouldn't like that but this way it gives much more understanding how great music were made with the use of Synthesizers.

von-für-wegen-gegen Olli Please share a photo of it. I would live to see it.
Many thanks for the great videos, so nice to see so many fine Korg synths, I have a Korg 700 S.
Are you a KORG-fan too, by any means? ;-} I can understand. And I HAD the 700 S (The Kitaro leadsynth btw...his baby!). Had the MS10/DELTA/POLY 800/MINIKORG/DDM 110. Why did I sell them??? Thank a lot to Tom and the camera man. Very good education . 😀👍👍👍🎹
The Trident synth is very nice...
Thank you for your time and effort.
Absolutely fantastic video Tom. Thanks so very much for these wonderful history lessons!
Thanks Tom! What an amazing collection of synth gear you have.
korg trident ! oh my god !! im in love
Awesome synth collection!!
That Korg Trident made me want to go and write some early 80s synth pop. So gorgeous.
Truly amazing collection, credit to you for putting it together & sharing with us all.
Much insight gained thanks :)
Loved the tones from that MS10 and trident, thanks again for the KORG master class, now hoping on hearing some of those Oberheim and Moogs you have hidden away!
Nice sounds like my Minilogue XD. Btw Junkie check the minilogue xd its like a little roland sh-101
Reporter : So how many sounds can you produce ?
Tom : Yes.
wow, the sound of the MS10 and MS20 is extremely thick. Incredible.
Matias Covarrubias thick👌👌💦
t h i c c
Korg Trident is sick!
It's very polite! Yeah
How awesome is the Trident? Loving those layered sounds.
I'd hate to pay that light bill each month 😰
Hi Tom Great vid again , I super like the Triniton and Trinity of Korg ,but back then i did not buy it but i bought the Kawai k5000w , which was the same concept only even fatter , the told it was aditive synt, something like combinations samples with real of notes harmonics a real instrument also would have (love this sound, Native instruments did the aditive technology in there Absynt 5 vst)
Love the MS-20. Also, I can't wait for the video about Eurorack :D
I think that would be taken down by youtube ;)
Amazing!
The vocoder was my favorite. Cyberpunk certified.
The MS-20 is my favorite Korg along with the Korg Volca units.
Nice!
I anxiously await the PS-3300 Mini...
Fantastisch, jonguhhh! Dank voor je uitleg, weer...top!
That Korg Trident is very yummy!
You should have played Chronologie II on that Korg Trident!!
"the korg tridant soundet massiv back in the days" this thing blows away quite a lot of new synths even in 2017:-) great demo! btw love the reverb :-)
you are having good timezzzz
wow, the Korg Trident is the shit!
Tom, since you like reverb, you don't have to remove it from your videos. Just pad it -6dB. This trick can in fact make some reverbs larger. *That way both tribes will be satisfied (those to like and those who dislike reverbs). LOL!*
This is not what I'd expect! What's the theory behind this?
I think he meant something like a 'notch filter', or would it be an inverted (or exclusionary) notch filter. If you honed in on that bandwidth, you could minimize its presence this way, no?
the ms-10 sounds great

Damn good, always interesting... Ever had a Fairlight CMI ?
You can daisy-chain the Ms-10 and 20 to get a bigger sound.
like that ya still do demos on two plans and a cauge ;]] whit some pensils / and from a rielexing sitdown;]
biggup']
greets ron ollanda
i remember having a software version of korg ms 20 it was fun with all the knobs tweaking this synth
I think we need a Patreon account for Tom so he can afford a new shirt or two. :)
that's the essence of being a music producer/vintage synth enthusiast
Never give money to a junkie. They just spend it all on synths.
the moment they have money for a shirt, they gonna buy new patch cable
No Monopoly? That's the best one
Hogboy my fave is the poly61
It's always nice, what you show us Tom ♥.
I know "i'm not the only one", but a great dream (for me) is to make with you a Soundtrack.
But i must learn more about music and so i make this ^^d.
Have great days Tom, be happy and all other people too ;)

This man's name belongs in the title and there is room for it

ms20 was my first synth.
Great stuff! What is your classic car outside? :)
Korg
SUPER
I wonder, do you switch every synth in the room off before the go to sleep at night?
I am sure that leaving them all on is enough to heat his house without the furnace. And no doubt, his A/C system must be uprated that much more to compensate for that heat. And this is wonderful.
He also tucks them in, and kisses them good night.
I'm pretty sure he contributes to half the turnover of the powerplants in LA county ;)
I really thought the Ms 20 mini was the only one Korg was making brand new these days! :o
The Korg vocoder sounds like it was left out in the rain.
sounds like Walter/Wnndy Carlos vocoder in the Beethoven cover
That’s odd, no M1 and no Wavestation in sight? Those are classic Korgs too.
Hi Tom,
nice video! Awesome sounds! Watched all of your videos and i mentioned that all of your synthesizer gear have a reverb on... which reverb do you use? Didn't think you do in post. Please let me know! Thanks
Very nice. What's the reverb being used on the MS-10/20 at the beginning?
REVERB!!!! I LOVE REVERB!!! THIS IS A GREAT VIDEO TO SHOUT HOW GOOD REVERB WAS BACK IN THE DAY.
I have a Korg nano with 8 fa... ow wait... wrong planet.
Love the reverb: Which preset is it from the Eventide DSP 4000?
I've never seen a literal wall of sound!
DAWgfather check out Hans Zimmer's setup...especially around Dark Knight/ Inception time
You got featured on film riot.

Wow, that 3300!
Not sure if Kraftwerk used the Roland vocoder to me it sound a lot more like a Sennheiser VSM201.
how are all your synths audio-routed to cubase? when do you need to patch?
Also do u have a fairlight cmi? I just saw a recreation somewhere,or that tape synth that the Beatles used I forget the name
I have a 49 key M-Audio Oxygen. Think its more of a midi-controller really, but I like to pretend sometimes. Its a lot of fun either way.
Not more of a midi controller it's actually a midi controller
Is that a DX5 sir?
7:30 Drunk Choir Backstage ,7:52 soprano mosquito mode
Whats the ARP 2600 clone in the bg?
Tom, do you turn your gear off or do you just leave it on? and if you do turn your stuff off, do you have some power distro box that kills banks of AC power banks? i would assume so (or do you have a runner /intern who does this for you? ) :)

Filter in the trident is soo foamy :)
My POLYSIX is sick too (almost 3 years now) :( I don't have money for the doctor.. Yeah, I'm a bad person, I know.
2djxs or more make a great sound when in unision whith the turntables set at poles apart, ive donit , is phenominal, alien saft great, also switch the arp on function 71 set at no 2 with a latch in the foot peadel, its to much to play with
he has a ps3800 and he plays Arp sequences. :( Wished he played some polyphonic parts. Vangelis didn't use the Trident at all, btw.
