This was one sweet budget receiver. All the "basic" features and a few goodies. Driving vintage speakers like; Infinity Qe, Ohm E, EPI-70 or 100, AR-18's, Boston Acoustics A-40 or 60, E/V Interface 1, Bose 301 or Genesis V-6 reasonably loud levels can be attained. Tech Hifi sold this receiver in a "system" including Ohm E speakers and Toshiba A-272 turntable (with AT-90E pickup) in 1980 for $549. Interesting video, well done.
I did the Stereo Locked Tuned Bulbs on my TX3000. I used the service manual to look up the bulb requirements, then I purchased the bulbs from an online store (vintage electronics). I removed the old brackets (they disintegrated as expected). I create new brackets using rubber plumbing washers (super glue and sandpaper to shape them) soldered the wires together (need to practice that skill) and reassembled the unit.
Any general purpose rectifier diode like the, 1N4001, would work. For a couple of extra pennies you could get a purpose built bridge rectifier like the 2W04 (DigiKey, Mouser, Arrow, eBay etc.).
I'm sure it will be similar but I think the bulbs in the tx-4500 are replaceable. There are LED kits available on eBay, just search for "Onkyo TX-4500 LED". I don't know if they're any good but they're not too expensive. Good luck!
Sorry I just saw this comment! Came back and found this video wondering the same thing I did 2 years ago! Thanks for the reply, I'm going to take a look into some led kits!
@@silentcode12 this lightning is sexy af, keep it i would say. i do love original but this are improvements in my opinion, and improvements cant do harm
Hmm...what were those engineers smokin ?? My project one 3b and Pioneers from 78 just pull out a bulb, put in new. Replace all in 60 seconds. Why do people insist on making things difficult for no reason ?? You should sell the finished version .
The pioneer bulbs are easier. I just finished replacing all the incandescent bulbs on an onkyo tx-4500mkii with LED bulbs. The am, fm, stereo, phono, tuned and locked bulds were a bit if a challenge but well worth it. As much as i like my pioneer sx-980 in doesn't compare in sounds to the onkyo in my opinion.

Great video, although it would have been nice to know how you put together the bridge rectifier and specs for those of us that don't know how to.
Hi, when will you do the stereo/locked/tuned bulbs?
Can you tell me where to get the leds and bridge rectifier
Dang,I was hoping you were going to do the stereo/locked/tuned bulbs.
That’s one my list, not sure when I’ll get to it
Please do!

bless you
Needed more explosions 😁
Stick around and I'm sure I'll mess something up royally :)
Can you comment on which diodes you used to build the rectifier?

Do you know where the fuse lamp is? My fuse lamp burned out i need to replace it
Is this process going to be similar to the onkyo tx4500?

Muy bueno. Saludos México.
Love it
The original lamps were a champagne yellow colour. Why not keep as close it to close original.
I might tinker with the colour in the future :) Thanks for watching.
@@silentcode12 Amber color is much more appealing. Much more character and vintage vibe. Great video though. Thanks!
