Old Dogs, New Tricks. Winter Work Begins.

- In today's video, the Winter work begins with the first ewes heading off to Winter grazing as we wrap up the mating season!
We start by taking the rams out after their time with the ewes and moving them onto winter grazing - a job that not only keeps the sheep happy but also helps local farmers clean off their fields. Using our EID tag reader and performance recording software, we log breeding details to keep our records accurate.
Next, it’s onto gathering some ram lambs off a bare patch of ground. With no penning in place, things get tricky, but after a bit of a struggle, we manage to get them loaded into the trailer. Robbie and I share a lighthearted moment about his knot-tying skills - or lack thereof - stemming from his earlier career!
The day continues with setting up electric fencing using my homemade fencing rig and quad bike, making this tedious task a bit easier. Finally, I take Meg, my sheepdog, out for a training session. Watch as I share an update on her progress and reflect on how we’re both learning together.
It’s another action-packed day on the farm, full of challenges, laughs, and small victories.

I love watching you just jam those fence posts in from your 4 wheeler. Here in Colorado, the soil is so dry and hard, I need to pound them in with a mallet!!

On Meg- are you planning to run her with pops? Might have been worth using other commands- red and blue red right blue left. Thought it was a clever trick when I heard it first…

Hiya good morning
I've been watching your videos on how you farm sheep.
I am starting sheep farming myself not in a big herd. DOZEN EWES And a good ram I was wondering if I could get a ram lamb from a farmer who has ram lambs born in laming season.
Would you do a bit on the eid reader and software. What make it is. Thinking of buying one.
Good video ,, does the farmer charge you for the grass for the 2 weeks

Watching you work Meg is painful. She has so much potential, but overstepping commands and you are reinforcing that bad behaviour, which is allowing her to believe she's in the drivers seat. You need to work her in a round pen so you can gain more control as it allows you to step in to her for a correction without the sheep taking off into the next county. That control because of the limited space also allows you to concentrate more on your commands as well as your body position to the flock in respect to said commands, and not over repeating commands. I give you credit for trying, but watch your video, there's no control right from the very start..
