    I am a day late and a dollar short, but I think you guys are exceptional. Love your songs.

    These guys are great. Few realize the extreme talent resting in these artists. I'm sure it sounds much better in person. Hat's off to classic songwriting.

    I'm glad people are commenting on this. I love supporting these guys. I think their music is amazing, but they tend to be much better in studio than live. Been taking their music with me on vacations. They have incredible beach/ vacation music. But they really need to step up their live skills.

      fifthoctave The original lineup that recorded their first 2 albums was much, much better live (check out some live clips from 2012) musically and vocally as well as having a much better stage presence. I LOVE this band and their music since before their first album was even out (I had their 2006 EP) and I'm not sure what happened with the original lineup, but the only original member here is their driving force/songwriter Jason Brewer with the black jacket, glasses and beard on the far left guitar. The old members each had personality, a good look, and all of them contributed distinct vocals, both in their leads and in the vocal stack. It's like they went backwards and it's sad to see comments like this about their live skills because the consensus used to be the total opposite. Regardless, Brewer and whoever he works with in the studio make beautiful music and I'm looking forward to their upcoming covers and originals albums but sadly it doesn't feel quite the same as it did when we had the guys you see in the "Do you love me" video.

      @@eternalise That early version had a great college-friends-band vibe, plus Dave "a much more talented version of Mike Love" Ellis doing the "front-man" thing. Here's a really early gig (in a library, no less) that I hosted. The sound takes a song or two to straighten out (I was running house and the direct to tape recording, so house got addressed first). Oh, no monitors, either. th-cam.com/video/Qg2oIbmz7Gw/w-d-xo.html

    they sound so flat :(
    much better in the studio

  • @senormedia

    They've got a wonderful tune here, but they need to loosen up, quit
    screaming, and sing from their hearts. Some of Jason's notes are shrill.
    Kyle is flatting. Paul needs to sing more soft and sexy. Wyatt needs to
    get closer to the mic. Mike - well, I love what he is doing. Some
    syncopation would help. I have 3000 more words that I could say. I'm not
    sure that they have any guts. I think there were probably too many
    people in the audience. Some of the guys are coasting. I think they're too
    concerned about their image.

    Great band..The reason they didnt "make it"?...Same thing that happened to The Bare
    Naked Ladies..No sex appeal, non whatsoever...Unfortunately you need that...

    • @eternalise
      @eternalise 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emily Freed I don't know about sex appeal, but the original lineup from the first two albums had a good look and personality, as evidenced by their "Do you love me" video and live performance clips circa 2007-2012. (Including some in that very same location in the video IIRC) They had a hard to describe "X Factor" in their look, tight and confident stage show, etc that was marketable, imo, that this lineup doesn't quite have, though they're still one of my favorite bands. I'm sure they're all cool people but in my case I think it's just the thing that happens with any band you love and attach their music to memorise in your life and they have a lineup change - you get so used to the group of people that you associate their old material with and in their case, they all sang and took leads, so it's even harder to accept new guys- but back to the subject of "making it", they seemed to be on their way; they were being featured on TV and soundtracks during that time and I really felt they had a chance.*
      *edit: after reading the reply below about BNL "making it" and my response, I feel my comment of "I really thought they had a chance" was just as ill worded, though not intentionally as I'm sure hers wasn't either. As I stated below, it's funny she mentioned BNL as the former lead singer of BNL, Steven Page, is a fan of Explorers Club and just contributed to their new album, and though they're not on a major label or selling out arenas, who besides major mainstream pop acts, rappers and major legacy bands really do these days? They do things on their own terms and have a dedicated fan base, and as I stated earlier, we're featured in major soundtracks and have attracted the praise of many of their heroes they were influenced by, and I'd class that as "making it". The fact they still control their sound and songwriting as opposed to bigger bands that labels throw big producers and outside songwriters at to tweak their sound for the radio is a win in itself.)

      They've been around for over 30 years, sold 15 million plus albums , had hit singles, but BNL didn't "make it"?

    • @eternalise
      @eternalise 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fredfirth3834 Good point, I know BNL are especially huge in Canada and were everywhere during the late 90s, then had a mainstream resurgence a bit later with the Big Bang Theory. I remember watching their reunion at the Juno Hall of Fame ceremony and it was nuts, like the Beatles had reunited (if the Beatles had kept going without John or Paul or something, since most of the band carried on as BNL despite their falling out - I'm not a huge fan but I do enjoy some of their music and would definitely say they "made it", though I kind of get what she was going for with her comment, I guess people have different ideas of what making it entails, it's all perspective)
      -Incidentally, Steven Page of Barenaked Ladies is a big Explorer's Club fan and just collaborated on their new album (they have 2 new albums, a cover album and one of new originals), they just released a duet of them doing the Orpheus classic "Can't Find The Time" on their TH-cam channel a while back, funny she picked them as an example.
