    If you're coming to a new piece of water, how do you determine the optimum depth? Do you start with the float shallow and keep sliding it up on successive casts until you drag bottom, and then back it off a bit to be just above bottom?

    How much of a floro or mono bumper do you usually put? And is the fixed float for more shallow choppy water?

    • @AddictedFishing
      @AddictedFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually 4-5 feet of bumper. I like fixed floats in all water conditions, but not big huge boiling deep rivers. Fixed floats fish better on smaller rivers.

  • @l-doggyang9551
    @l-doggyang9551 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Just one question, you talked about saving your rigs by using a bigger main tied to a leader. Typically the leader would be smaller pound line, if you do snag bottom with the setup on the leader wouldn’t you loose everything since the combined knot is on top of the float? Question is, wouldn’t it be better to have the float on the main line since it’s bigger line? That’s the most expensive gear on the rig...

  • @colinjenkins4665
    @colinjenkins4665 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't get the weight on the float part. I thought that the "weight" of a sliding float is really a measure of the float's buoyancy and you use a sinker underneath that - in combination with your tackle - to get close to the buoyancy of the float so it floats at a certain level and the sinker gets your presentation down to the strike zone. So, are you adding weigh to the float to reduce the buoyancy of the float so it then becomes equal to the jig or worm or whatever?

    • @arsalmonar
      @arsalmonar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll answer for ya'. It is important to have the weight of your offering (in this case, the jig head and worm...) equal to the amount of weight needed to sink the float to its color line. The amount of surface area of the float which is out of the water, is proportional to the amount of pressure the fish feels when grabbing the worm. If you run a 1/16th oz jig head and the float requires 1/4 oz of weight to sink it to its color line, then the float will be sticking way out of the water. When a fish grabs the worm, it will pull and it will feel the float because of the increased surface pressure required to pull so much of the float under water. By adding 3/16 ozs of weight to the stem of the bobber, you equalize it with the weight of the jig head/worm. This will cause your float to ride in the water at its color line. Ever notice how all floats have a drab color below the line and a bright, day-glo-type color above the line? It's so you can sink your float such that the bright color is entirely out of the water and fish cannot see it. There is usually a band with a third color between the bright and drab colors. THAT is what I call the color line. Perhaps balance line is a better term since it indicates how deep you want the float to sit relative to the surface of the water column when it is properly weight-balanced. When your float rides correctly in the water during a drift and Misses or Mister Steelie grabs your Mad River Worm... s/he won't feel the float pulling back as much because it is already mostly under water. I hope I answered your question in a way which is understandable and did not insult your intelligence. There is a LOT more to float fishing than this and there are many applications and types of floats to suit each type. Fellow steelheader, Mark:)

    Great tutorial as always. Dig them floats too. Very versatile. Noticed them on Addicted Alaska 2 video but a different model. I mainly use a sliding setup, but can definitely see a time and place for fixed floats. I’ll be picking some of these up when they come out. Can’t wait. 🤘🏻🤘🏻

    It seems that the larger diameter of the addicted fixed float would cause the worm to travel at a faster speed than would be Normal in a faster moving river. Is this the case, and if so do you plan to make one that is thinner in the future ?

    I would love too see if some of products will work for great lakes river run rainbows. I remember I was fishing this guy that had only bass fished before. We where nymphing with flies. He asked me what he should use. I said I find the most success come by changing your fly or bait every 15minutes once you get your weights right. He pulled out some berkly power 4 and 6" fluke baits. He said will these work. I said, I've seen other weird stuff work. It's all about giving them something they have never seen before. He put them on nymphing of the bottom and caught a 10 pounf brown and a 8 pound steelhead before I caught anything. That why I think the worms you guys have will work in the northeast. You should test it with a show to some of the popular tribs of the great lakes some time. I heard the saugeen river have a 50000 rainbow run and all the tribs in huron have self sustaining wild runs. I live closest lake Ontario tribs but it is very crowded. You can hit alot more tribs including niagara and the ones i mentioned if you stay on the niagara somewhere. Just a coupled hour drive in almost any direction will put you in some great places.

    A great color worm might be a shrimp color, the color the shrimp is in the ocean, so what would be cool is if you guys took a piece of the outside of the raw shrimp and colored a plastic worm exactly the same, just match the hatch in a way, they might hit that out of pure instinct, add some scent, or i guess a guy could run a shrimp underneath a float, but the plastic worms will last longer, I could go on but i never stop, i know that steelhead fishermen are always thinking of new ways, colors, size, smell, water level, water temp, sunny, cloudy, raining, water clarity, im sorry, got to do it though, i have to keep going on, its the only way to learn how to get these fish on the river i fish, its the upper rogue, that gets a crap run anymore, but its made me better, i only get 1/2 hour at any given day to fish these steelhead do to my health. So i have to be successful, no matter the cost, im boring you and i know kinda whats going on with me, ill admit it, i have a problem, there, are you happy now? Its out now, in the open. I fish alone, as addicted alcoholics do, i never share, im withdrawn, Im broke all the time, ill spend my last $ on gear, it consumes my life, im never satisfied, I clearly need help, thats what my family says anyways, they say, “ THIS SHIT HAS GOT TO STOP”but we all know it will never end, they say the best way to stop is a little at a time, like wean my self off, so i went up and hooked five and got two, the next day i only hooked one and lost it. Today im not fishing, so ill just watch films on stlhd fishing, pre rig gear, im starting to shake a bit but i was told that this is normal. I know now that you are worried about me, but ive got attivan just in case i get anxiety, or a seizure. Sorry that i wrote this long ass text but it helps to talk about it. So, thank you, and all bullshit aside, you guys are pretty cool, im jealous a bit that your career is fishing, i guided in Alaska for one season and on the upper Rouge on the weakends. And those were some of the happiest days ive had. I mean no offense, and if i offended anyone with any part of this long ass text that wasnt my intent. I was crushed by a log, causing a heart reconstruction, and the opiate thing got a hold of me and a big part off my successfulness of 8 years kiking the habbit was do to these great stlhd and learning from people like you guys on utube. I started on these great fish while i was trout fishing the rogue and got my first stlhd kinda by accident in 1989, and the addiction started.

      @@AddictedFishing 20 packages of worms 100 different beads 50 different lures, 50 jigs might as well toss some bait in there and carry 20 different scents, all the different rods to cover all the set ups, where does it stop ? Come on! you would need a pack mule to carry all your gear to cover ever possible situation. I get it, your trying to sell your brand. I would bet there are two or three colors that are very consistent winners and the rest fill tackle boxes. I have purchased every color bead from the major suppliers and 2 of them work consistently the rest are decorations same goes with worms. I would love to sell back the ones that don't work.. top 5% ? don't go all salesman and ruin what you have built up. my 2 cents :)

      Ray Bly Again I disagree and so would multiple steelhead anglers. In my backpack I carry to the river it’s loaded with gear. Multiple lures, baits, etc. I also carry 3-5 rods depending on the day. I don’t care about sales bud, I care about catching fish and helping other people catch fish like I have for 10 years making barely any money. We create products to not only expand on the sport we love but to use ourselves!! Yes we’re creating a business as well, it’s called the American Dream, I’ve spent 10+ years working towards what we’ve built. 1000,s of days creating and giving away free content, gear, and more! Hell we even gave away a drift boat to give back to the community. If you catch tons of fish doing you... then 👏 but Im going to have everything to throw at them.
