In this final episode ill be showing you all how i built and installed this modern door.
I purchased the door itself locally as i was unable to build my own door due to local code restrictions here on Vancouver Island. I also picked up the rest of the door parts from my local door supplier for a fraction of the cost of a complete door.
The door was made from fir as was the center mull post. The frame was red oak and the cill was made from aluminum.
This is the season finale of the modern entryway series but don't get too worried. This is literally just the begging for Rad Dad Builds. I have a whole bunch of awesome home improvement, DIY, furniture, and woodwork single projects and series coming out every Friday.

A little tip for choosing the right length screws or nails . Multiply whatever your nailing/screwing by 1.5 that is the proper length . Not specifically for you but just a tip I learned from this old house .
Agreed, Great tip
And add 1" if screwing into end grain, right?
This is the best video I have seen on TH-cam for constructing and installing an exterior door frame. I’ve been searching like crazy for exactly this and there’s doesn’t seem to be any other good videos showing how to build the actual door frame. Excellent video.
Wow, thanks. I really appreciate that.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Beautiful work and thorough explanation. Well done, sir.
Love the Union Wood Co shirt!! And great build too, thanks
Thanks mate, Im a big fan of those guys
Love your style in interior designing. Great inspiration
Thank you so much
i know im growing up because this is soooooooo satisfying every sec of this video
Solid work, I'd love to see how you made the door.
Great work, the whole entrance area looks so good👍👍
Hey thanks dude
Fantastic work! I admire your hardwork and dedication! Totally subscribing to this channel!
Hey thanks dude, I appreciate it
@@RadDadBuilds @00:01 SQEEEEEEEEK !🤪???
Hi there ! Awesome video! Couldn’t find how to make a door slab, could you recommend the video ? I might have missed that moment in that video, please , advise
Love the series especially the door! Very nice modern look! Subscribed :)
Thanks for the sub!
@@RadDadBuilds You're as tall as the door. 🤣
This man makes it look so easy 😮
Super clean and amazing, I'm definitely subbing
Hey Thanks dude, I appreciate it
Hi Rad Dad, awesome video and thanks for teaching us. has the magnet been holding up well and has it been strong enough? have a solid core 1 3/4 wood door and deciding if i need the precision magnet heavy duty version. can’t tell if that’ll be overkill. thanks!
I got so tired of working with shims that I bought a Jamb Master . . . such a dream for door installation - especially with multiple, equal-sized doors.
I love it! Very beautiful work!
Thankyou so much
great video, I would recommend treating your wood with saltine solution for mold and termite prevention 20-30 years later.
Beautiful installation
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks awesome!!
Thanks dude 🤙
Thanks for this video. Very well done and inspiring. What is the length of the handle you used (the link leads to a 24” handle on Amazon but it looks much longer) and what’s the height of your door for reference?
Very well done! 👏👏👏
Thank you so much 😀
tidy great work, especially additional introduction for the wifi cam !
Thanks so much
Awesome! Looks incredible man.
Thanks dude
@@RadDadBuilds is that a kit?
You Brite up my day rad dad builds love your works 🧡🪵💯 THANK YOU
Fantastic !!!!
Really enjoying your vids Nick, very nice work and modern transition of your property. Are you a pro carpenter, maybe you do this for a living? I like how you simplify your explanations, your vids are good learning tools. Thanx for sharing, excellent - Steve
One small thing I could see being a huge problem.
Leaving the barcode on the doorbell?
The one you need to link the device to your phone?
What's to stop someone from popping the cover and scanning the code again to link THEMSELVES in?
The other huge problem is the glass window being on the same side as the deadbolt lock XD
Tips: You can hide some screws under the hinge for a cleaner look
That would have been option 2 if I couldn't hide them behind the weather strip
Beautiful door! i love!😍😍
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful door
hell ya! Keep it up brother
Derekes1 Thanks dude🤙🤙
Brilliant work. Liked and subscribed!
Thanks dude
The beginning of the video had me so hype I was ready to build my own damn door lol
Another tool that helps me with heavy door installation is The Door Stud.
Great vid mate. Been looking for one like this. This answered the questions I had! 🤝
Great intro!!!!
I follow you from Egypt very good
Thanks dude 🤙🤙
I’m new, I came from you newest viral video, Congrats! The Grind is real!
I love the edit Montages! Incorporating your son is super Cool! Seems like he likes it too!
One thing I suggest is I don’t think it’s necessary to have essentially 2 intros in some one the vids. The montage could be used as the intro with a title at the end, instead of the Peter McKinnon inspired one. Great work man! #roadto100k
Thanks dude, I totally agree. Im still in the learning process of making videos. I feel my most recent videos have come along way since this one.
Beautiful door! Thanks for sharing. Anyway, What is the exact measurements of your door? Thanks😊
You r great man!
Thanks Dude 🤙
nice leveled and plum
Perfect Job!!!!👍🏻
what a brilliantly explained video. Watched soo many and this articulated it well. Thank you for taking the time to do this for us handy DIY'ers. 1 question, could you install the lock on the door before you hang the entire assembly, THEN after door and frame is installed, transfer the location of deadbolt on the frame? any foreseen issues by doing it this way (for ease) ?
Only 3 screws to hold the jamb also do u need to nail down the threshold?
Do you find the magnets work well enough? Do they hold tight or will any wind push it open?
No the magnets work great. they are very strong.
Great work nik is there a link for the door build itself?? Big thanks for sharing this awsome job 🙏🙏
Wow. Nice work
The door is awesome subscribing, would like to know where you bought the door is beautiful :)
Beautiful project. Rad.
Thanks Dude 🤙
Looks great, I'm working on a door for my wife.. Can you recommend a place to get the glass for the door. Thanks.?
Thanks buddy, I usually purchase my glass from my local glass shop or auto glass shop.
Nice work
ThankYou
Awesome 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job, well done. Any video of how you made this door? cheers
Nice look and nice door. I see one issue with this type of door. The lock side of the door is a weak place since you have a window next to it. That type of door would look good in a place where they are no criminals loose in nature. I would suggest that you remake that door, but make one with security in mind where no one will be able to bust the door open by force.
Hi there. Love your work. I cannot seem to find episode 1-4 for your front door. Are they still available?
Awesome
Thank you
Love the look of the door. Not so sure about have it dead bolt only. Would be annoying going in and out of the house and having to dead bolt it each time especially on windy days. Also not a huge fan of the non symmetrical hinges. I would have added a 5th to the bottom or simply just got heavier duty hinges to limit it to 2 or 3
The magnets actually keep the door closed while the deadbolt is opened:)
you don't need a 4th hinge i have hung the heaviest solid oak doors with just 3 heavy duty hinges [good quality] and never had a call back in 40 years size of screws you use is more important than and extra hinge just remember if your a dyi guy only worry about fitting 2 hinges to begin with just cut and fit the top and bottom hinges get it hung make sure it has an equal space and opens and closes good then fit the 3rd hinge trying to line up 3 hinges a once will wreck your whole day use a level and a square those one and a quarter inch screws in the hinges are too small should have bumped them up to something beefier and another thing to be careful of is silicone in some cases if used to install sealed glass units you can void the warranty as the acid in the silicone can eat the seals in the glass double glaze. butyl tape might be a better alternative and also remember nothing sticks to silicone except silicone so don't get it anywhere you want to paint or glue or well any thing
Subscribe.. to update your amazing work
Were did you get the door from?
Would love to see how you made the door
Visa card. He bought it.
Amazing! I want to do one similar with an old door on a block 1968 house.Any advice?
Awsome ! Congrats! But show us how u make the door. Manny thanks and jeep do It that !!!!🥂🥂🥂
Great door! Did you buy this door kit, or made it yourself? I'm looking for an affordable modern door to purchase.
👏👏👍
Yo Rad Dad great vid. I am modeling my new front door after yours. Can you give me some insight on the length of the pull bar on the door? Is it 4' or smaller?
Hey thanks, the handle I have is 4ft, there's a bunch of size options in the Amazon link in the description. cheers
@@RadDadBuilds yeah was going to grab one of those but all sold out in the four foot matte black. Thx for the input.
Would like to watch the actual door build not just frame
That's why I only watched the eight minute .mark
Same
Door was bought. Says right in the description.
Where do you order jambs, mullions and headers like that where they are already made?
Homedepot stock them
Great video 💯where did you get the door from? 👀
great work! All while watching your son! Do you have a video on how you made the door?
did you buy the door?
PSA: You need Titebond III for outdoor, things-get-wet applications. Titebond II is for indoor, non-moisture use.
I love that door handle, but it looks like the only way to open the Dorr is with a key, is that correct? Or is there a latch hidden on the bar?
Hey Thanks and yes that's why we used the magnets to try overcome that issue. They're very strong and hold the door shut when unlocked just ike a latch would.
@@RadDadBuilds where do you find the magnets please?
AHHHHHH where did you get this door. I've been looking to get something like for a year now
This(these) is/are really helpful and well done tutorials . Will sub . For installing hinges , I like SO much to use ‘self-centering’ drill bits - #6 mostly . I’d used quality countersink bits for 25+ years for this application and often , (especially if hinges were used on a wood like Douglas Fir - that had intermittent soft then harder grain) was less than pleased with hinge-screws not being exactly centered and therefor not entirely flush . Lol , I’d certainly SEEN these weird looking bits with the spring-loaded sleeve that the fairly blunt-tipped drill bit travel through over many years ! They also save time and fiddling without having to precisely pencil in the spotI’m reminded of a Pretenders song , “I shot my mouth off and you showed me what that _____was for !” Anyway , WELL worth buying one and giving it a try . I never looked back- as far as all cabinet hardware requiring screws went . Only negative (IMO) : They tend to walk off job sites , should a less-than-scrupulous HVAC guy or plumber spy you using yours ... Just kidding . Sort of . Thanks !
It’s really nice!! Who you got the door from?
I like the rap in the intro. I'm saving this video for when I build our front door. Lots of good tips.
Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed it 🤙
what is the with of the front door ?
Awesome skills. Door looks amazing however safetywise it feels like one average kick from saying hello in your living room. Door itself might be heavyduty but that lock is a joke and the glass fix with silikon and pins is like blow away from falling inside and unlocking the door. I guess you live in safe are and thats no problem but from When Im around this would be considered similar to doors wide open.
Bro, such a slick look! Stellar as always. Where’d you get the door? I’m down in Sooke and need a swanky modern door like that! Thanks again for all your rad projects!
Hey thanks dude, that’s rad I’m in maple bay. Go check out Wescon doors in Duncan. They’re have a awesome selection of “seconds” which are perfectly good. That’s where I always go
@@RadDadBuilds thanks! I’m going to call Wescon. Oddly difficult to find a good custom door builder on the island.
I’ve been watching your videos for years from Tofino. Great work and excellent videos! Please keep it up 🤙
can you show what materials or parts of your wall? because i live in indonesia and use an wall cement, thanks brother👍
Did you make the door yourself? i have been looking for the video on it but couldn't find!
Where did you get this door?
may i ask why you cut like that with the saw. The first cut.
nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey, how is the magnet? Was it too strong?
Its super strong, works great
Nice
Thanks
what stain is used on the door? what grove depth
Where did you get/build the door itself?
A place called Wescon doors here in bc.
Seems like some security flaws w that doorbell. The barcode on the front of the camera, the usb card outside where people could get to it. Major flaws imho for security purposes.
nice Door, but ... Are locks used on cabinets on front doors in the US?
did you make or buy the door? most impressive element and its a secret
oh I thought you going to show how to make door?? Ok where did you purchase the door from?
This is gangster bro
Thanks dude
I love it it looks beautiful but at 22:05 why can you see outside through the bottom ???? shouldn't be tight ?
Yes, There is an exterior grade weather threshold installed.
Awesome vid. What is door width?
Did you buy the door itself? it looks solid inside
???
Nice work throughout. Do you have a separate video for the door build? Also, can't figure your accent?
Thanks buddy. Not yet ill be bringing that out soon. Im originally from uk but live in Canada
@@RadDadBuilds do you know the name or color of the wood for the door. Or the design name of the door.
Looks so good. One concern I have with these doors is security. If an intruder breaks the glass he can easily access the deadbolt from inside and open the door. Is the glass specially made to prevent breakins?
What is the make and model of your door
nice - Philippines
