    I don't ordinarily comment on D2 videos but I must make an exception here. You have an amazing ability to break down a VERY complex issue such as aiming in FPS games and break it down into nuanced, palatable portions. You clearly have the skills to be giving out this sort of advice online as well. I really appreciate your time and effort into making this type of content. I am sure this can be a thankless endeavor sometimes but just know that you brightened some internet stranger's day and that you taught them some very valuable lessons. Please keep doing what you are doing. I want you to remember this: You WILL get the recognition you deserve. It may take some time but you will have your day. Your editing, teaching, and gameplay skills are top notch. All the best to you.

      Wow thank you so much! Some days are more rewarding than others when it comes to making videos like these. They take a lot of time and energy, and aren't very financially rewarding at least when you are getting started, but I do really enjoy making them and I really appreciate feedback like this to let me know that other people get value from them! :)

    Thanks for the guide! After watching this, I did some testing and realized I was only getting 75 fps even with my 2080ti, which still looked good and smooth in game, but when I did the reticle test, I noticed that it wasn't smooth. Made some adjustments to my graphics and now I'm hitting 115 fps and it's much better. I also went into the game files and turned off the mouse smoothing as I realized the in game setting doesn't work. It made a world of difference in the feel and my cursor feels like it goes where I want it to.
    While I'm not, nor ever will be, a good PvP player, this did improve my game quite a bit with certain weapons, especially pulse rifles. Even had a couple of really good IB games finally with some of the highest k/d score I've ever had.
    Now I just need to train myself more and get better at map awareness and pre-aiming.

    In whatever game it is that you want to improve at, another extremely important aiming tip is map knowledge. This goes hand in hand with pre aiming as well. Learn the most common positions for people to peek a certain angle on every map in the game. You can use certain anchor points for the most common spots so you always know where head level will be when pre aiming these positions. For those who don't know what i mean by anchor points i'll do my best to explain. On every map there will always be the "Most popular" spots for people to funnel through or for people to go towards. When running to get into position instead of blindly guessing where you have to put your crosshair, instead use a visual queue that would be around head level for where you will be pre aiming. if theres a randomly colored block that would be about head level on your way to the spot, place your crosshair there so that when you start pre aiming you will not have to guess if you are slightly above or below target, you will know for certain that your crosshair will be perfect every time. That is what i mean by using anchor points. Every map has them and of course you can have multiples for every map you play, or you can use these anchor points for the most common spots on all maps. This works for every fps game there is and it is extremely useful in being consistent with pre aiming.
    (Also side note for Destiny 2 specifically) if you know you are playing against very strong pvp players, majority of the time the most optimal way of challenging an angle is to slide, aim and shoot at the sniper or person holding the angle. This is very fast movement and will keep their head from being at the typical pre aim head level. So when playing against better players it is usually a good idea to pre aim lower so you are anticipating the slide, so instead of them getting first shot advantage you will get it instead and either win the fight entirely or force them to reposition and retreat. This also goes for players who like to use icarus. If you are playing and become aware that certain hunters or players like to challenge by using strafe jumps you can pre aim high and anticipate their playstyle. Normally you never want to do this unless you learn that they are commonly doing this through the match. In destiny generally its always best to aim head level, and Slide level.
    But yeah good luck guys hope Patty's video and maybe even this comment help you get to where you want to be :)

    • @PattycakesGaming
      @PattycakesGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent comment Aron, I agree 100%. At some point I'd like to make a whole video on pre-aiming & map/game awareness. It's probably the most important thing to focus on in order to make major improvements in your ability to play at a high level.

      Pattycakes Gaming As someone who’s never really committed to sniping in destiny yet am a legend rank player. This is what deters me from trying to snipe in comp. I just don’t feel confident knowing if I’m at the popular snipe lanes quick enough or exactly where I should be aiming.

    • @PattycakesGaming
      @PattycakesGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@wethepeople8280 It just takes practice, like anything else. I think anyone can learn to snipe, but the reality is that most people are better off shotgunning until they become a pretty proficient sniper. It's just much easier to be useful to your team as a shotgunner compared to being a sniper.

    I started playing on PC 3 years ago. After so much struggle in the first year, with some months of aim hero and bare playing, my aim improved a lot. I preordered Destiny 2 and "finished it" pretty quickly, without playing PvP (basically I got to 320 light and stopped). I developed my aim on other fast paced FPS and TPS games, reaching what I think is a very good level for "just" 3 years of experience and since I don't have many hours a day to play. I started playing Destiny 2 again this year, this time splitting between PvE and PvP. I found many difficulties in PvP. Always good or decent results, but not as much as the other games. This is also the only game I've played where I absolutely can't use the sniper. Then a day, my eyes opened: i've always been used to have a huge lag that I never actually knew what was like to play without. So when I had my very first match without any lag (for reasons that I don't know), I was shocked. I was hitting almost every shot, even with the sniper. No more 4 secs late kills, no more 4 secs late dmg, no more hits not counted. This lasted just a couple of games and made me so angry that I quit and uninstalled the game. For those wondering yes, I did everything listed in Bungie's troubleshooting and even more, trying PPPoE connection and DMZ in router settings. Nothing seems to fix the lag. My connection is not huge, but i can play any game with 30-40 ping. This is the only one so bad and I seriously can't figure how to get out of this situation. Honestly, I still would have needed to improve a lot here, especially with sniper, but I feel like it's not worth to do it if then I'll have to play in such conditions.

    Really great Video, but bad recommendations for Kovaak's Maps.
    I'd never recommend Tile Frenzy (the standart one) is the worst you could possibly play to improve, i feel like it's just there to benchmark your speed, since targets are never tending to be standing still.
    So do Tile Frenzy - 01 or faster instead, it's the same just that targets are moving.
    I highly recommend Aimer7's Guide on this topic, very detailed and trust me the training pays off if you're dedicated enough.

    couple of questions :D
    1) What resolution do you play ? Do you think ultrawide require higher sense ? I am finding ultra wide aspect ration and resolution better for me because they give you a higher fov (105 is around 115) which is limited in D2.
    2) What is you mouse and its weight ? is it one of those in the video ? I am thinking of replacing my 96g Steelseries Rival 600 with one that is around ~75g. What do you think ?
    3) What distance do you play from monitor. I find distance to be affecting my mouse sens + vision a lot. At 80cm I find even 24inches monitor slightly big for my taste.
    4) Is your sense with 10 modifier ? if yes why would you recommend it ? So that you build muscle memory even when not adsing ? I am 10 sens 5 mod and I find it hard to run around if I switch to 5 sens 10 mod.
    I would appreciate it if you answered, I future purchases depend on it :D

    Tip to improve aim in every game:
    Make sure the distance that your mouse must travel to make a 180 turn is the same
    For example, in Team Fortress 2 my sensb is 1,8(800 DPI) , but in Destiny 2 is 6
    (800 DPI too)
    Both require 11,5cm to make a 180 degree turn
    Also try low to low-mediums sensivities

      True but in order to do so you have to drop your FPS to below your monitor refresh rate, which isn't necessarily a good thing to do unless you have a 240hz monitor

    G- Sync and Free Sync does not add any input delay, only V-sync does. playing at high sensitivity with a mouse that has low lift of distance is definitely need, for example the Logitech G Pro has very low lift of distance, so to compensate you'll need to play at high DPI or high in game sensitivity, Razor and Corsair has High lift of distance, so playing at lower sensitivity feels awesome, keep this in mind this is only for wrist users, i feel like i have alot more control with my Aim when using a high lift of distance mouse, as i like to lift the mouse off the mat, i haven't tested the Glorious Model O, so i have no idea what lift of distance it has, but yes a lighter mouse is always better for your aim. Graphics settings like Deep of field must be off for FPS games as it as a blur, so does motion blur, so i'd recommend taking them off, using the new Low Latensity from Nvidia helps reduce input delay, or Anti lag from Amd.

    • @PattycakesGaming
      @PattycakesGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that if you cap your FPS to just a bit under your monitor refresh rate with Gsync it minimizes the input delay (so for 144hz drop it to 138-140 capped or so), although there's still a bit more than having it turned off.

    • @KenneyBear
      @KenneyBear 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PattycakesGaming No capping below the monitors refresh rate insures you don't get screen tearing, so for G-sync you can cap to 142 fps, for a 144hz monitor, but if the monitor is G-sync compatible, you'll have to go a bit lower at 138 fps, or you get screen tearing at the bottom off the screen, because it's using software, not hardware like G-sync, so if you have a Amd GPU with a free sync monitor you can cap the fps to 142 once the monitor is 144hz.

  • @eoffsock
    @eoffsock 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Since Destiny 2 use direct input from mouse, any Windows settings makes zero impact on game. Only in-game sensitivity and DPI have impact. Also hardware sync makes no input lag whatsoever, as far as I know how it ever works. Software sync (vsync) can do some input lag though.

    • @PattycakesGaming
      @PattycakesGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have seen mixed results from people reporting either way on the raw input thing. I turn it off in windows either way since I figure it makes sense to be comfortable with no acceleration globally.
      As for the sync, you have to reduce your frames to less than your monitors refresh rate to not create extra input lag. However I don't like doing this because there's evidence that having FPS above your monitors refresh rate is helpful (reference the linus tech tips video with shround on 300FPS 60Hz monitor)

    Great vid Pattycakes, one question though - can't see anyone in the comments asking about it. You keep saying "a 360 degree turn should take a full swing at your mousepad" yet you only turn like 180-200 degrees with your demonstration (or about 90 while ADS). Am I missing something here?

    • @PattycakesGaming
      @PattycakesGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey it varies a lot depending on the size of your mousepad of course :)
      There's a measurement called cm/360 and most top players will likely fall somewhere between 25 - 70cm (roughly speaking). If you're way outside of this range on either side, it might be something to look into. My suggestion is mostly aimed at super high sens players who only use their wrist and have their in game sens around 20+
      Personally my current sens (800, 5, 0.9) looks like it's around 46cm to do a 360 while ADS, and 35cm while hipfire for reference according to mouse-sensitivity.com
